Secluded Woodland Cottage set in Over 3 Acres of Private Grounds
Set in an elevated position above the river Beauly, our woodland cottage provides an idyllic retreat amongst some of the Scottish Highland's most spectacular scenery. Nestled in the midst of three of the most beautiful Scottish Glens â Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Glen Strathfarrar â you will be on the doorstep to some of the wilder and most remote areas of Scotland whilst still within easy reach of the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. Sitting within 3 acres of woodland and gardens bordered by a small burn to the East. Once here you can either retreat from it all and enjoy the tranquil magic of this place or use it as a base to explore the Highland wilderness that is on your doorstep. Alternatively you can visit the more well known attractions of the area such as Loch Ness. So whether you are looking for a romantic break, a special place to âget away from it allâ or pursue outdoor activities like hill-walking, fishing, pony trekking or watching the local wildlife Fern cottage offers an ideal spot for your holiday. This is the cottage for you if you want to enjoy the Scottish Highlands in a pristine, natural setting, while still being close enough to civilization...if you want it. The cottage had a cozy bedroom, full kitchen, and a loft area featuring skylights to see the stars. Mary and John made us feel right at home and we enjoyed whiskey a fire with them while star-gazing one night. They tend a garden that encompasses all 3 acres.
There are two nature preserves nearby where every level of hiker can find a perfect hike, and Glen Strathfarrar Munros is like a step back in time where the virgin highlands remain untouched as they only let 25 cars in each day. It's the same as it's always been.
History is everywhere. "Outlander" fans can go to the actual battlefield, Culloden, where the Scots fell to the Brits in their valiant, albeit doomed, fight. You can walk the battlefield with a guide and then explore the interactive museum that takes you to the middle of the battle in a theater of four screens surrounding you.
Clava Cairns is a place where you can explore prehistoric stone circles/ standing stones, tombs/cemeteries from the Bronze Age. When you stand in the middle of the Cairns, you might be able to watch your cell phone drain its battery. It's a place of mystic energy.
The tiny town of Beauly is charming, and filled with Highlanders who are friendly and welcoming. We preferred this town to Inverness as the people went out of their way to be welcoming.
Die KĂŒchenzeile bietet alles, was man braucht inkl. Mikrowelle.
Mary and John were great hosts - the cottage is set in the stunning area just a short drive to Beauly. We enjoyed a decent walk around Glen Affrick and walk up Ben Wyvis in the snow. The cottage is well heated and the fire was lovely and cosy after a day outside.
Highly recommend Corner on the Square for coffee, a bite and even wine! Lovely food and service.
I was born and grew up in the USA and moved to the U.K. with my parents back in 1980s. I discovered Scotland through meeting my future husband who introduced me to this wonderful country where I have lived for nearly 30 years now. Together we have visited the wild and remote parts of Scotland where we have enjoyed trekking, climbing and wild camping. It reminds me in many ways of Northern Minnesota (even down to the midges!) where I spent many a happy summer on my grandparents small farm.
After running our I.T. Consultancy business since the early 90s my husband and I resolved to have a serious work/life change and so we decided to set up a holiday letting business in the Highlands. We then spent many years looking for just the right property to fulfil this aspiration and in 2012 we started Eolas Holiday Cottages. The reason it took so long was that we were looking for a place that was much more than just accommodation â it had to reflect all the special qualities that I had come to love during my travels through the Scottish Highlands. I believe that with Tigh-na-Bruaich we have indeed found this.
Tigh-na-Bruaich is a special place with a quiet beauty and tranquillity. To this end we have left the woodland and the wilder areas of the grounds as untouched as possible. Even in those areas where we do garden we do our best to accommodate the wildlife that frequent our grounds.
The variety of fauna that can be found within these grounds are a testament to the bio-diversity of this small piece of land. Since starting work on these grounds we regularly see: pine martens, badgers, red squirrels, bats, buzzards, red kites, sparrow-hawks, ravens, slow worms, lizards and many other fauna natural to the area.
