very different comfortable large house from days gone by, indeed interesting + with enclosed fair sized, tidy gardens our family all enjoyed a weekend stay at at Compton House - bedrooms are a wow!
Kitchen good + its stately dining room were highlights
Patricia was v helpful too.
11 of us / 3 generations descended on Axbridge to celebrate my motherâs 90th. What a super weekend! Culminating in a wonderful dinner in the formal dining room which was spectacular. We like to cook - and the Kitchen is large and well equipped for big parties. A lovely setting in a lovely village / area. The host was charming and very accommodating.
We were all 'blown away' by Compton House. So grand, and so welcoming. It was the perfect venue for a special birthday celebration with my family. Lots of space, inside and out. Thank you Patricia, from Stuart, Sally,Tym, Tom, Rae, Louis, and birthday girl Wendy.

This house is amazing, itâs very old and packed with antiquities. Every amenity we needed. Patricia the host is fabulous in every aspect. Fully equipped kitchen, beautiful bedrooms with en suites, fantastic grounds. Perfect location. It is such a stunning property and quite quirky with creaky stairs and uneven floors. Lovely clean bedding. Huge stunning dining room. It was absolutely perfect for a weekend stay with family and friends and we shall definitely re-visit.
Fantastic property near Bristol, perfect for celebrating with friends
I booked this property for my Sisterâs hen-do and it was just the most perfect property!! The house was extremely well stocked with glasses and crockery. The dining room was amazing, creating such a special experience for a formal dinner. The gardens were beautiful as well! The host, Patricia, was extremely helpful and responsive - I really felt like she wanted to ensure we had the best experience, which we did!! Could not recommend this property more.
Had a cracking NY here. Amazing house, you could spend a life time looking at all the furniture, objet d'arts and the history of the house. Grand, perhaps a tad cluttered in the kitchen, but quite and very comfortable beds. Showers are a bit weak, but lovely village and pub 5mins walk from the house. Bet it's super in the summer, with the french doors open on the garden.
Picture taken in Portugal in a Audrey Hepburn moment! Have been hosting guests here for over 10 years and love it. I bought Compton House in 2004 initially to host weddings and events but now as a more senior person hosting to small groups is more enjoyable and more convenient. Before the pandemic I would do at least one long haul trip a year- favourite destinations include Nepal, India, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore and Bali and a camping Safari in Tanzania. Nowadays my holidays are a bit closer to home in Europe. I have an amazing Yoga Teacher daughter and a beautiful grandson whom I visit a lot in London where I lived for over 30 years. In my earlier years I trained as a dancer, played a lot of tennis and squash and had a long and successful career in the hospitality industry.
Compton House is a welcoming house. It has warmth and character and lots of space which suits many groups of guests. Croquet or Badminton on the lawn is enjoyed by many guests and the local pubs and out door pursuits draw guests to explore historic Axbridge and nearby Cheddar, Wells and Glastonbury. Compton House is full of contrasting styles with its Medieval and Georgian architecture and its eclectic mix of antique and vintage furniture and oak and flagstone floors.. The main paneled Dining Room is a rather grand room and popular for formal and informal dinners as the old Ship's table seats up to 16 people. This south facing house with its terrace and mature gardens lends itself to outside dining and having a very relaxing and social time. All rooms are en suite with the exception of the Attic level where two rooms share the same bath/shower room.
