A good find

For a trip that’s not too expensive for Washington DC area, this was a good find. We liked the beds, the cleanliness, the access to grocery store and highway. The only thing we missed from our other trips was a large common area to gather as a family.

Great “home” base for our day adventures

We (grandmother, mom and young son) had a great stay; all the beds were very comfortable. We were able to make breakfast and dinner as well as get take out because the house is so close to a shopping area. It was obviously an office in a previous life, and the layout worked well for us. Shower was lovely, the 1/2 bath was a nice plus and the sunshine over the table at breakfast was a great way to start our day. Definitely will stay again, as we plan on visiting downtown DC more. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The place is very centrally located and has a lot of rooms. Was impressed by how much space it has. Would definitely recommend, and stay there again myself.

It is across the street from a little shopping center and right off of the interstate. Very close to the main roads to get wherever you need to be.

Shower drain not draining. HVAC system needs maintenance per msg. Part of shade in small bathroom missing. Pillows very minimal. Explanations on the heat zones for future guests would be good idea. Enjoyed all the Rooms.

Great place for a family stay!

The house was immaculate. We loved having 5 bedrooms. They are on the small side which did not matter at all to us. Location was very convenient to major highways and many stores and restaurants were within walking distance. The back yard is lovely. We spent a lot of time outdoors with the children. There is only one pull out couch. Will stay again when in DC.

October 2023 stay in MD

We had a great time while in the DC area. The only complaint that I have is that there wasn't a good vacuum cleaner there that we could use to clean up some of the inevitable mess that children make.

My overall impression was great. There is a lovely backyard with foxes!!! It was clean, had condiments and spices and hand soap and coffee. The layout is a little difficult to navigate but didn't really matter to us .

Wonderful Home

The home was just as advertised. We were away for my daughter’s STEM conference at University of Maryland and the home was just perfect for my family of 4. There was a lot of space and very comfortable beds. The home was well cleaned and there were amenities provided that usually you don’t see in a VRBO like tissue, shampoo, conditioner and hand soap, which was a plus! The kitchen is stocked with great utensils. I would just recommend adding measuring cups, baking pans, and a spatula. The backyard is amazing with plenty of space for our kids to run and play. The home is close to all major facilities. There is a Safeway across the street along with a Starbucks. The owner was absolutely wonderful. She was very responsive and even came during the week to water the garden while we were there. You can tell she takes great pride in the home. We would absolutely stay here again.

Hillandale House

This property was a little odd. It is listed as five bedrooms, but we only needed three. The way it is divided up seems like it was something before it was made into rooms. It really had the feel of a place for interns or short term groups to live. With that said, none of it got in the way of really enjoying the house. We were able to do everything we needed/wanted, the location (although on a slightly busy road) was great to launch from. We do a lot of house rentals, and despite the odd aspects to this one, we would definitely stay there again. The house was ready and very clean, it was stocked with a lot of things you would need like bathroom toiletries, paper goods, coffee/spices/other kitchen basics. Could use more towels, but we were very happy.

Ok stay, but some awkwardness

First, let me say the property is nice. The large grassy area out back was nice, but a bit overgrown. The beds were comfortable and plenty of dishes for our stay. Easy access to the road as well. The property was obviously built to be an office. The kitchen, refrigerator and pantry area are separate. Their is a church in the basement, and it still has an active business profile online. When we arrived there were 2 cars in the lot already and people in the church. I email the owner and asked if there were other people staying. (Mind you we checked in after 5pm). The people left about an hour or so later and then i got a response that it was the owner of the property, there to make sure everything was ok. They hid from me when i went down to check out the church underneath the house and didn't introduce themselves or talk to us at all. Then during our stay they messaged me to let me know that they had scheduled yard maintenance during my stay. They didn't ask if it was ok, just told me and thanked me for my understanding. I assumed that the maintenance might be a third party, but it wasn't. Just the owners who were there over 5 hours. This was uncomfortable for me, as i use VRBO over others as you aren't supposed to have to deal with the owners being there. They allowed me to extend my stat one night, which was nice as i had made a mistake with the reservation.

Very clean great location. Back yard. Safe drivingand parking. Used Metro easily and shopping plaza with a few choices of restaurant's and grocery store basically across the street. 100% Location. Impeccably clean. 100% Exam rooms are bedrooms ( neighbor said was a doctor office) GREAT as you do not interfere with other's sleep etc. 1 room had table with 2 chairs alone for study or work space. Deep backyard with tree and flower back drop 100% . We were there for sibling reunion wanted to put slow cooking meal on in morning site see afternoon lunch out come home relax; break bread together. However kitchen has basics only. No spatula to flip an egg. No roaster or crock pot. Regardless no way to sit all in 1 room for 7 adults. Registered 7 adult guest. VRBO states whole house when we arrived house was very warm opened finished basement door there is a church inside the basement. No lock to keep our items secured for whomever had access to church...very unsettling. No where to sit outside in yard. Lock was applied 2nd day of arrival however no way to lock our items. Multiple cameras on property. Never recieved house rules from VRBO. Unsure if anything was missed lucky i finally got message to take out trash. VRBO system went down no other way to contact home owner when she was trying to contact me over thermostat. 7 ragistered adults for 6 nights. Only 6 towels 6 hand towels 2 kitchen hand Towels. I would stay again 100% with no more then 4 adults

Powerhill Drive

A booklet should have been created telling about lock, location of things like broom, dish towels(missing- only 1 for 3 areas) what is expected when we leave such as wet towels, garbage, should we run dishwasher etc. We had trouble locking door until we figured out it't particularities. Needed more seating in living area and outdoor furniture. Beds against walls made entry and exit difficult. Should be able to set thermostat as we were cold.

The house was very clean. Our kids said that the best part of our trip was the house because they each had their own rooms! The kitchen setup is a little awkward but it was fine for a week. The big backyard was wonderful for the kids to run in after a day of having to be quiet during tours/museums. A little far from DC (half hour) but it was nice to be away from the city itself. Overall, I would stay again.

Stayed here with my adult children to attend a funeral and some family gathering around town. Everything was problem free! Location was great!
