Property Summary Blagdon Cottage in Wheddon Cross (Somerset) is a spacious semi-detached holiday home in the heart of Exmoor, a short distance from the village. There are 4 bedrooms for up to 7/8 guests, and with ample outside space it's a great choice for families or groups of friends to explore the area.
Main Description Blagdon Cottage is a comfortable holiday property on the edge of the village of Wheddon Cross, an ideal base for Exmoor holidays for families and groups of friends! Situated in the heart of the beautiful Exmoor National Park, the property is surrounded by a patchwork of fields with the stunning backdrop of Dunkery Beacon.
With four bedrooms, Blagdon Cottage can accommodate up to 7 or 8 guests (plus cot on request) in two double bedrooms with one king-sized bed and one double bed, one twin bedroom, and one further double bedroom which is recommended as most suitable for a single person, but can sleep 2 guests if required (it's a small double bed).

The property will be ready from 4 pm on the day of your arrival. Please depart by 10 am on the last day of your stay. Please leave the property clean and tidy so that we can guarantee it will be ready on time for our next guests.
Indoor Description The entrance to Blagdon Cottage is directly off the parking area, into the house via the hall / dining room, leading onto a utility room, a convenient spot to leave coats and boots after a long day hiking.
The ground floor level includes the comfortable sitting room with electric wood burner effect fire perfect for cosy evenings in. The kitchen has a traditional oil-fired Rayburn as well as an electric oven with hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and cafetiere plus plenty of cupboard space, and a selection of cookware, crockery, cutlery and glassware. To the front of the property is a small conservatory with comfortable seating overlooking and leading out to the garden, an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a good book. The ground floor bathroom comprises walk in electric shower, hand basin and toilet.
Upstairs are the four bedrooms, one has a king-size double bed, one has a double bed and one has a small double bed (recommended as most suitable for single occupancy, but can accommodate 2 guests if required), and a twin bedroom. The first floor family bathroom comprises bath with hand held shower attachment, separate walk-in shower unit, hand basin and toilet
A travel cot and high chair can be provided on request (please bring your own bedding for the cot). A hair dryer is provided for your convenience.
Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. The cottage has central heating throughout and an electric wood burner effect fire in the sitting room. Unlimited fibre wifi is included, which is good quality for video calling and streaming. Please note there may be limited phone signal in the cottage depending on network.

Bed linen, duvets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips or use them outside.
There may be non-perishable items like a salt, pepper and a few herbs or spices available. Cleaning materials such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets/powder will be present in the property. One toilet roll will be provided per toilet and hand wash.
Dogs are welcome but not permitted to get onto the furniture or to go upstairs at all. A maximum of 2 dogs per booking.
Outdoor Description The garden at Blagdon Cottage is enclosed, a 5-bar gate across the drive to the access road, and hedging and garden fencing on the other sides. There's a gravelled patio area with picnic bench and a lawned area with pretty garden shrubs. A BBQ / firepit is available for guests to use but please bring your own charcoal.
There is a small paddock to the rear of the property which guests can use to exercise their dogs but we would appreciate that you pick up any dog mess. Neighbouring fields have livestock grazing throughout the year so please keep you dog under close control.
Equestrian facilities If you would like to bring your own horse on holiday with you, there are two stables and a paddock directly next to the property, which can be rented along with the cottage. The stables are a few metres across the yard from the house, and there is parking for your horsebox. There is glorious countryside to explore by horseback direct from the cottage! Unfortunately, it's not possible to include bedding or hay so you would need to bring your own with you. There is a compost heap nearby and it's expected that the stables and paddock will be clean upon your departure. The security deposit paid on the property will also cover any additional cleaning costs of the fields and stables if they are not left in an acceptable condition. Stables and paddock are charged at £10 per horse per night
Parking There's ample off-road private parking available on the drive beside the property, which is gated to the road.

The region Wheddon Cross is a village in the parish of Cutcombe on Exmoor, based around the crossroads; the roads run from north to south between Minehead and Dulverton, and east to west between Taunton and North Devon. The village is argued to be the highest on Exmoor, standing at 980 feet above sea level, and the highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon (1704 feet above sea level) is the focal point of the village. Dunkery Beacon is about three miles from the village, there are fantastic panoramic views from Dunkery; wild moorland to the west, the Bristol Channel and Wales to the north, the rolling Brendon Hills to the east and the Quarme Valley to the south.
In recent years the village has become famous for the abundance of snowdrops in the nearby valley which has become known as 'Snowdrop Valley'. The snowdrops bloom around February and a park and ride system operates from the village to enable visitors easy access to the "carpet of snowdrops".
Wheddon Cross is surrounded by beautiful countryside; open moorland, wooded valleys and farmland. An abundance of wildlife can often be seen, including Exmoor ponies and red deer. There are a number of marked footpaths and bridleways, including the famous Coleridge Way which passes through.
The local church is St. John's in Cutcombe, it dates back to the Norman Conquest and was mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086). St John has a 13th-century tower and has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building.
Wheddon Cross is a thriving community and offers good local services for a small village. The village shop is a well-stocked mini-supermarket incorporating a Post Office counter, petrol pumps, cash point machine and has good opening hours. The Rest & Be Thankful Inn is the village pub which serves food and is child and dog friendly. The village also has a first school, village hall, playing field, public conveniences, and local bus services running through.
Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 9 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco, Morrison's and Lidl are situated on the outskirts of the town), high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.Security Deposit Information A £100.00 security deposit is required. Totally the right property for us and the dogs somewhere for them to run lovely and cosy for us. Only little grip wasn't totally clear on the listing that you were not booking through VRBO.

Myself and a group of friends stayed at Blagdon cottage for a long weekend getaway to celebrate my 30th. The place is absolutely beautiful! Marilyn was very helpful over text, too. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Exmoor.

Great cottage
We had a great stay, lots of room for 2 adults and 3 teenagers (WiFi great), dog and kids loved the paddock to run around in, beds comfortable, table football great addition, Rayburn and washing machine appreciated to wash and dry clothes on wet days. Lots of walks just be prepared lots of inclines. Parking great. Local pub has good food.local little shop good for bits or a 20 min drive to minehead.
