Lovely cottage in an excellent location, very clean, river room was a great place to sit and let your worries float away, Lucy was always available if needed on the end of the phone. We had a lovely stay over Christmas and didn't want to go home, great experience recommended
We really enjoyed our stay. The location suited us really well. Itâs on the river with paths in both directions directly from the door. The pub across the river is really cosy and serves good beer. Itâs also a good spot for access to other parts of Exmoor. The cottage was very clean and reasonably comfortable. We liked the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen is very cosy with the Aga stove. However it was exceptionally cold during our stay and the central heating was not enough to make other rooms comfortable. Although it was not an issue for us, parking up the hill and having to cross a bridge by foot to access the property may not suit everyone.
A very nice area with lovely walks along the river
The cottage had everything we needed.
The only issue was the property was not as clean as we would have expected.
However we had a relaxing break.
The lodge was well equipped and in a beautiful, quiet location. The car parking arrangement was not ideal but understandable given the location and certainly not a deal breaker. We enjoyed our stay and certainly had everything we needed for a comfortable week in the lodge.
Not stayed for a while but weâre so glad nothing had changed. Been visiting since 2004 and cannot fault the Cottage, always had an amazing time with family and friends who have all loved it
The Rockford Inn has been up and down over the years but at present itâs the best it has ever been, great food and service. Canât wait to come back
Thanks Lucy and family x
Set in a valley the property was peaceful while not seeming completely isolated. Wonderful walk along the riverbank in both directions. Short drive from Lynton and the breah-taking clifftop walk to Valley of Rocks.
Highlight was watching the cattle drive across the ford which passed within feet of the riverview room. All in all a very enjoyable stay.
This is such a lovely place. We felt like we were in a fairy tale, nestled in the woods and listening to the stream running by. The host was responsive to our messages and helpful. I hope we get to go back--but for longer the next time. (The stairs up to the bedrooms and bathroom were fine for us but I could see how they might be too narrow and steep for some with less mobility.) Overall, it was a great holiday and perfect location.
We had a fabulous time at the Lodge! This house is a gem... like walking into the country place you wish your family had had when you were growing up! Our family (myself, my husband, 2 teenagers and a small dog) had such a magical stay for one week of the Easter break. We love how so many of the details and history of the lodge have been preserved, and we felt very at home right away. Walking over the footbridge to the property, waking up and walking out straight onto the river bank, going to sleep with the lovely warm blankets listening to the river... we all felt so comfortable and at home. Being able to walk straight out to the trail (definitely walk to Watersmeet!) and nip across the river for a beverage at the lovely Rockford Inn was exactly what we needed, and the coast and all it has to offer is just a short drive away. We can't wait to come back in the summer so we can take a dip in the river and hit the water at some of the local beaches. Thank you, Lucy, for a lovely stay!
We had just three nights at Rockford Lodge, but it was a beautiful, peaceful place in which to escape from everything. I have never had the opportunity to stay anywhere so close to a river, but by the end we were wishing we could take a little part of the East Lyn home with us. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed, including in the kitchen (and it was great to be able to cook with an Aga that was identical to one we used to have when I was young :) ). Walks from the property were remarkably beautiful. Wifi was fast and reliable. Great to have so many books and games in the cottage - could easily have stayed for a few weeks just sitting and reading! Parking was tight on the first try but was easy once I'd worked out where to position the car...and the car park in Brendon just up the road was very useful to be able to turn around and head in the opposite direction. The trips to unload and reload the car took some effort but the road was quiet and it was good exercise :) The back of the cottage is quite dark as it is built into the hill, but this turned out to be part of the cozy attraction of the place, and there was plenty of light to the front. Very well-looked-after garden. Great location to explore the North Devon and Somerset coasts, and wider Exmoor just to the south. Beautiful and memorable. Thank you!
Sehr schönes Cottage in sehr schöner Umgebung. Super Ausstattung und sehr netter Kontakt zu der EigentĂŒmerin via mail. Vom Cottage aus waren einige Wanderungen möglich, ohne das Auto zu benutzen.
Lucy was so helpful in answering questions and supporting us. It is a lovely spot unique and connected to the history of the area. Walks from our front door. Good pub across the river and comfy beds as we fell asleep to the sound of the river . We will be back!
The cottage is lovely, full of character and in a wonderful location right by the river. Itâs extremely peaceful and there are great walks from the door step, our dog loved it!
The hosts were extremely responsive and helpful too.
We would definitely like to return here.
A relaxing stay in a very well equipped cottage. Very comfortable and a quirky approach to it and not to be forgotten.
In beautiful surroundings and great position for exploring the beautiful area.
Lucy is a very responsive and helpful host. The cottage is nice and cosy and the location is beautiful. Great walks and fishing straight from the front door. Highly recommended. Thanks for a great week.
The cottage is perfectly situated for those who enjoy plenty of different walks directly from the front door. Itâs in a lovely spot right by the river, very peaceful and relaxing. âŠand great for dogs. The cottage is well appointed with everything you need for your stay. We were only there for 2 nights but would like to have stayed longer and hope to go back.
This is a wonderful property that is both comfortable and extremely well looked after. What makes this house so special is that it is clearly a much loved home. It is a privilege to enjoy such beautiful accommodation in a wonderful location. Fabulous walks, great pub nearby and always the sound of bird song. We very much look forward to coming back soon.
The lodge and the setting are lovely, there is everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Fishing rods, walking equipment, toys, games, books, washing machine, iron, I could go on. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious.
There is a secure garden which was great as we took our dog. The river is 10 steps away from the gate which was perfect for cooling off and fishing.
The downside was the hills. We knew we could not park at the lodge, the car park is about 200 yards away but up a very steep hill. My husband has a Lung and heart condition and we ended up leaving early because he physically could not carry on with the terrain.
All the pubs in the local area were closed and the nearest shop was a good 15 minute drive along narrow, steep roads. Whilst we enjoyed our time there, we would not book again due to the severity of the hills and no phone signal at all.
Lovely period cottage in the small village of Rockford. Perfect location for walks either along the river or across Exmoor. Expect hills and narrow steep roads - there really is no escaping them đ
The most gorgeous cottage - so warm and cosy and comfortable. Really spacious, easy to find with the instructions. So relaxing listening to the sounds of the river while going to sleep. A great place to unwind and perfectly situated for beautiful walks and close proximity to local landmarks. We enjoyed every second of our stay and wish weâd had longer! Host was very accommodating and friendly!
Rockford Lodge has been a cherished part of our family for over 50 years. My parents, along with my two older brothers and myself on the way, devoted many years to furnishing, decorating, and partially restoring it, making it a place to be shared with others. It's a joy to now visit Rockford Lodge with my three children, ushering in a new generation. While my mother still visits the cottage regularly, the responsibility of its management has been passed on to me. I invite you to visit our website, and should you need any assistance, please feel free to reach out. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Rockford Lodge soon.
