Riverside is an idyllic detached period stone property situated on the banks of the River Windrush right in the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water with house and garden overlooking the river and parking for two cars. 5 of us stayed 4 nights in November and absolutely loved every minute of our time there! Great location in center of town with easy walking distance to great restaurants, pubs, bakeries and tea rooms!
Absolutely one of finest places to stay and the highlight of our trip. Everyone associated with Riverside was extremely accommodating and the property itself was one of a kind! It is so unique and historical. When our family would gather in front everyone passing by would comment on how beautiful âourâ home was! After explaining multiple times that it unfortunately was not we eventually replied with a polite thank you to the many compliments. Canât recommend enough! Thank you Penny!
Very lovely property in the middle of the village. The canal front was very busy with tourists, but we were tucked away inside the beautiful home. It was very convenient to local pubs and cafes. Definitely appreciated the garage for parking and washer/dryer. You can't go wrong staying in this historic property.
Riverside House is the prettiest house on the water, and located right in the middle of the village. It is just as described and absolutely charming in every way. We also room day trips all around the Cotswolds and found this location was ideal for that as well. All the restaurants, pubs, bakeries and shops were wonderful and all within walking distance.
It is in a great location, easy to walk everywhere, and well situated to explore the Cotswolds. There are plenty of cups/mugs and plates, and an excellent layout for lounging, eating, and sleeping.
This is a wonderful property and located right close to high street. Well appointed with all items needed for a great stay. Grocery is right across the river walk. The house is very popular with tourist for photos as it is perfect. We shall return again and again.
Wonderful place to stay. Very clean, and great location.
We really appreciated being able to check in 2 hours early.
I would highly recommend this home to others.
Thanks again!
This is probably one of the most photographed buildings in the village, right on the water. It is exactly as pictured in the listing. There was lots of room for our family of four. The kitchen was well appointed. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.
Location is great. House is beautiful and as pictured. All three bedrooms have tvs. Kitchen is stocked with everything you can possibly need. There is a washer with separate dryer.
Easy bus service to surrounding towns. Easy access to countryside walks.
My husband and I had a fantastic time staying at Riverside house. We will definitely be booking another stay at this lovely house.
Riverside was the perfect vacation home for us. Our favorite time of day was early morning, having breakfast in the front yard and talking with everyone strolling by. It is truly the most lovely residence in the town and most people stopped to engage us in conversation. The private patio was a great alternative if we wanted peace and quiet.
Beds were comfortable, the furniture was lovely, kitchen well-equipped.
Iâd like to return next year if time and budget permits!
My family and I stayed the month of December in Bourton-on-the-Water, our first trip to the Cotswolds. We chose Riverside House because the VRBO listing seemed exactly what we were looking for.
Upon arrival we quickly realized that though the listing is quite accurate it does not express the charm and comfort of the Cottage, nor does it indicate how perfect the location is.
We were able to park off street just outside the house as parking in Bourton can be challenging. We did not need to use the car very much as the House is located in the center of town, surrounded by restaurants and shops.
The house itself is very comfortable and nicely designed.
We particularly enjoyed using the AGA, which was a new experience for us.
If visiting Bourton, Riverside House is the perfect place to stay. We would highly recommend it during the off season. We can't really speak to peak season.
Bourton on the Water is the loveliest village in the Cotswolds, and Riverside is the loveliest house in a village full of charming period homes. This is the fairytale cottage everyone dreams of finding with a private, walled garden where times slips hundreds of years. We stayed for nine nights in September and enjoyed the property tremendously. The only caveat is that the house is a magnet for tourists. Bourton on the Water sees thousands of them everyday and staying in this house you understand the drawbacks of celebrity. Having said that, the house could not be better positioned for enjoying beautiful Bourton. One thing that we would note is the absence of top sheets on the beds. The weather was warm on some nights and the duvet was too heavy. This may be an American preference, but a top sheet would be cooler on warm nights. The house was spotless and, with the garden, large enough for everyone to find a private space when needed for work or phone calls. Highly recommend this house, and hope to return in future.
Listing is accurate: this is a superb house in an unmatched location. There are not enough superlatives to describe our stay hereâŠexcept for the weird heat wave, we loved everything about it. There were a lot of tourists walking along (and in) the river but the houseâs thick stone walls kept its interior relatively cool and quiet. It was fun to watch the people and dogs outside, and to walk to the end of the block for some fresh bread, cream tea, or a pint. Grocery store just across the little bridge has a nice selection of everything we needed. Kitchen had everything necessary to cook, but with so many pubs and restaurants just outside the door, we didnât feel the need. Garage with laundry machines was a huge bonus. Property manager and housekeeper were legit and very prompt in responding to our questions. Highest recommendation!
It looks great and is clean on the inside, but the owner gives you very little and it makes you feel cheap. For instance there's no napkins or paper towels, so you need to use toilet paper for eating, cleaning your hands -- everything. When asked, we were told to use two old tea towels -- which is all they give you in the whole kitchen. They also give you only one large bath towel and medium towel per person and no hand towels or washcloths at all. You're expected to wipe your soapy hands on your own shower towel and when that's dirty then thats it. They use only podium sinks, so all your toiletries are all over the bathroom floor because there's no where else for them. I've never stayed in a high end place that had worse amenities -- every where else makes sure the place is well stocked. This place gives you the least and doesn't seem to realize how abnormal that is even when asked.
