Willows - a barn that sleeps 2 guests in 1 bedroom plus 2 on sofa bed [lounge]
Stay in this lovely converted barn located on a working farm between Newport and Yarmouth. Standing next to a sizeable pond that attracts ducks and wildlife, this really is a haven of peace and tranquillity that will appeal to those wishing to get away from it all.
Set in a rural location, the farm in which Willows is located is surrounded by open fields and countryside, providing the ideal location for walkers and nature lovers. Further, there are a number of farm animals roaming around the garden areas surrounding the property for the animal lovers!
Outside, there is a lovely garden area to the side of the cottage with garden furniture as well as ample parking outside the barn. There is also a sizeable pond in the owner's garden, which attracts birds and ducks and guests are welcome to use. The picturesque and family friendly beach and cliffs at Compton Bay and the historic town of Yarmouth are both within a ten-minute drive, and the island's county town of Newport is also a ten-minute drive towards the centre of the island benefitting from a variety of shops, restaurants and bars. 'Willows' is a truly excellent base from which to explore the beautiful island.
We really enjoyed our time at Willows. Set in the countryside, it is a quiet and peaceful location surrounded by farmlands. The owner was very friendly and it is within short travelling distance of all the features of the island.
A very nice location with amazing views. There is public transport nearby but having a car makes it much easier.
Richard was a very welcoming host. Thank you.
Had a wonderful week at Willows. Been to I.O.W 3 times, this 1st time in Willows. We definitely go back. Lovely location, very comfortable cottage. Everything we needed was there. Can't fault it.
We had a great time on the farm, which the entire family enjoyed. The children really enjoyed feeding the ducks and the cows. The owner is very friendly and the accommodation is comfortable. Bring your wellies if you want to explore the beautiful nature on your doorstep.
Beautiful little cottage on amazing grounds. The kids loved frolicking through the paddocks and meeting the animals who are all very friendly. We were all comfortable even though the cottage is small it worked well for a family if 4. With functional spaces in and out to dine. Tge host is a wonderful man whom was super qelcoming and lovely. Would highly recommend. A great stay!
Great location on a working farm with cows, sheep, ducks, hens and dogs. Very peaceful. Weather was wonderful. We love wildlife and countryside so were delighted with the Isle of Wight and the ease of seeing any of it. Great walks including Ventnor to Steephill Cove, Brading Marshes (saw white tailed eagle there!), Five Barrows, Newton harbour, Compton Bay and the Needles. Lots of good places to eat. Osborne House and gardens is a must see. Our host, Richard, was very welcoming and we had chats about the farm, the island and the past which enriched our holiday experience.
The location of the cottage was lovely and suited us well for the week. Our children loved being on a farm and enjoyed seeing the animals and the tractor. The host well very welcoming. The cottage is well placed to explore the island, especially the south west beaches. The sofa bed was uncomfortable and a little dusty when unfolded (I'm sensitive to dust) but the main bed was fine.
This was an amazing holiday with my two boys (13 and 10). Itâs a beautiful converted tool shed/calf shed on a working farm. Ducks and farm dog to greet you every morning! Thereâs a table to eat outside, tumble dryer/freezer in the barn opposite. Richard, the owner, is super helpful. Zero light pollution so the stars and satellites are super bright. Great location from which to explore the island. Bathroom is simple but more than enough. The kitchen is small but we managed to cook every night and some mornings. There is space to fit a few shelves which would help with food storage (we had to shop every couple of days). Scales and a measuring jug would be helpful as would a second shelf in the oven.
The IoW as a whole is fantastic. We were perhaps lucky with the weather but spent time on a beach every day, caught crabs at Colwell Bay, monkey rescue, Shanklin Chine, footgolf, steam engine etc etc.
Truth is, itâs not a four person cottage. My kids slept in the bedroom leaving me on the sofa bed in the small lounge. This meant either keeping it as a bed for the two weeks or making it every evening but with the bed out there is very little space especially if the fold out table had to be extended for four. Also in the lounge there is a velux window with no blind so I was woken at dawn every morning. Finally it gets very very hot (again would help if the velux windows could be opened) .
Truth is I booked with six days notice and we had a fantastic time and I would thoroughly recommend it to couples and I would go back, but with a window blind, a couple of fans, some tweaks in the kitchen it would be perfect!
its a small cottage. which was fine. The sofa bed was the only seat available in the living area. its cushions are warn out and it made the evenings uncomfortable.
The was no basics left out for us, not even soap , washing up liquid, salt or pepper. This was unexpected, as they have always been in other cottages we have hired, and a poor touch. At the last cottage we stayed at ,also booked through cottages.com, a welcome pack or fresh eggs and a few other groceries were left out.
It was advertised with a dishwasher, which was not the case.
The WIFI was very poor and clearly a very old router was been used in the farmhouse , with no booster sited in the cottage. I would say this is unacceptable these days.
It was a lovely location, but there was a lack of footpaths we could use , the farmer, Richard suggesting we walk along the (narrow)road to the village.
Wet thought the cottage was ok, but could and should have been a lot better. the rent price was fair.
The location is very quiet and ideal for star gazing. Lots of walks in the area and a short drive to both Newport and a variety of attractions.
Everyone on the farm was very friendly and helpful. The house was clean and had everything necessary.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Willows.
I stayed for four days in July 2021. First time visitor to the isle of Wight. The island has plenty to offer. Nice villages. Steam trains. Hovercraft. Beaches and walks. Some nice looking pubs and restaurants. The farm was quiet and has some very friendly dogs. The owner was also very nice. I would certainly come back again.
