Failte gu taigh mo Sheanmhairean Welcome to my Grandparents House The Old Crofthouse, Kingsburgh is perfectly situated on the banks of Loch Snizort 15 minutes north of Portree and 10 minutes away from the Ferry Terminal in Uig The cottage was built in 1922 by my grandfather and his brothers, so the recent renovation has really been a labour of love in terms of continuing our family's connection with the beautiful township of Kingsburgh.
Kingsburgh is an historic township that is most well known for its connection with the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion, when Bonnie Prince Charlie was hidden at Kingsburgh House by Flora Macdonald following his escape from Uist. Since then it has remained a very special corner of Skye due to its unique position on the banks of Loch Snizort, which allows superb views south to the Cuillin
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property on Skye. Close to everything we wanted to see and very clean and extremely well maintained. My wife loved the coziness and charm. We were in Scotland 2 weeks and this was our favorite stop.
Overall, I liked this cottage. It is definitely out in the country so I hope anyone looking at this home understands that moths and spiders exist in the world. We named the spiders and left them alone and nobody was bothered by them. The other reason for the 3 stars on cleanliness was just because some of the bathroom items could have been cleaner, including the shower mat. Sandra, the owner, was super responsive and wonderful. However, they do have a property manager, and I tried to contact him before Sandra, and never heard back. That is my only reason for the 4 star on communication. Sandra informed us the day before we checked in that there was a leak under the sink and she was trying to get it resolved before we go there. Unfortunately, the plumber never showed up, Sandra doesn't live on Skye and is somewhat at the mercy of local workers and they definitely failed her this time around, but I won't fault her for that. Due to the leak, we weren't able to wash any laundry, which was the only real bummer about our stay.
The location is absolutely beautiful, if you face towards the water. It's very nice that the bedroom windows face that direction. The neighbor was super friendly, but is a farmer and does have a lot of junk around his property. However, his adorable, friendly dogs make up for all of that! The barn area on the other side of the home has more of an abandoned feel, and more junk (again, country living).
The property worked well for us. Very grateful to Sandra
We stayed for three nights at this amazing cottage and loved every minute. The house has a quaint atmosphere, but all the modern amenities was very clean. Itâs only 15 minutes from Portree so we ate out one night and cooked in for tonight. Fridge was large, and the kitchen was equipped with, most of the basics we needed. The beds were comfy and the view is out of this world. If you were planning to do laundry, the washer and dryer does work, but takes quite a while to dry. Our only suggestion would be some added instructions for finding the place. It is off the beaten track, and while Google was accurate, the place was not obvious from the road.
We were visiting from Arizona and Toronto Canada, and appreciated the family sharing this beautiful cottage with us. It was everything we expected and more from the website and would highly recommend it.
