The historic Stable Cottage is beautifully converted to offer a light filled, vaulted ceilinged one bedroom house. The large sitting room has a double sofa bed and lots of space. Step up to a kitchen area with oven, fridge freezer and coffee machine and dining area/work space. Step up to a shower room. The light filled double bedroom is spacious and has a large window overlooking the terrace and gardens. The cottage looks over a cutting garden and has a large private seating area. Also our property has a field to walk In and small dogs are welcome. The cottage is private and quiet but the main house is not too far Way if you need us!
This was our third visit to The Stables. It is a charming place. The building is full of character and very welcoming and the garden is a delightful place to sit and read or just absorb the atmosphere. Sally Ann and her husband are natural hosts, friendly and attentive and charming people.
I can't say enough how perfect this place was for me. It is a country sanctuary, a hideaway of sorts, in the midst of friendly comings and goings. House is superb and full of character, and the garden is everything one needs to feel calm, English, and inspired.
We were greeted by Sally and her lemon drizzle cake - a very thoughtful gift for us who had been traveling all day.
As we were visiting family, we did not have enough time to savor the garden which is a delight to sit in.
We slept well and woke to the sun. It is a charming place.
Thanks, Sally

A lovely cottage, filled with character, and delightful, private garden. Easy to access with fantastic host. Area is good base to explore Ashdown Forest and surrounding villages.
It is quaint and welcoming. There are lots of characterful touches everywhere, some of which hark back to when it was the original Stables (the front door is a stable door, for instance), whilst there are others that have been lovingly adapted by Sally Ann; you can see lots of her creativity and design flair throughout. The furniture blends well and, for a bolthole, you still get a decent sense of space and flow. All in all, very functional and very comfortable for a short stay.
The gardens, immediately outside, are well tended and quiet and, for those with dogs, you are allowed to make use of the extended gardens further away from the Stable itself.
Sally Ann is a delight! She was unobtrusive yet completely ready to help or provide advice on things to do and where to go. Her communication from start to finish was first-rate and she is a fantastic host (you will be offered a continental breakfast that she puts together herself - take it, the homemade jams and marmalades were delicious!).
Easy to recommend The Stables and when we're back in the area we'll be rebooking!
Sally Ann could not have done more to accommodate us and make us feel wonderfully welcome during our short stay. The stable was very cosy with lots of lovely homely touches and extras such as milk, cake and biscuits on arrival and the optional extra of a huge bacon bap breakfast!
Some areas could do with a deep clean (carpet/bathroom/kitchen) to bring it up to Covid 19 standards and the sofa bed was really only fit for one - uncomfortable for two. But that is just nit-picking! We had a lovely stay and were made very welcome.
