Good base for visiting the area. Small and compact cottage with many personal belongings and quite large furniture that made it feel smaller. Also not very clean.
The house had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. The house is well placed. Penryn has plenty to offer and access to Falmouth is quick and easy. Parking can be difficult although it is on a quiet road so stopping to unload bags/shopping at the door is possible. There is no outside space, which for us would have been a downside of we had been staying for longer.
My son and I stayed at the cottage as we waited for our new home to become available, and it served as our first step in our new life in the area. It provided much-needed comfort and cosiness in a transitional period of our lives, as we explored the area and my son began his time in a new school. The owner was very responsive to questions. It definitely has a lived-in vibe: the owner lives there when not away, and it gives the property a very particular character!
Having never been to Penryn (never mind Cornwall) we were greatly pleased by its beauty and quaintness.
The Home is located in a lovely neighborhood with narrow streets that bring out its charm.
We had stayed in hotels for several days prior and hoped to get some laundry done; and we were not disappointed (there's a clothes washer and dryer.)
Try Nemo's a few steps away for their fish and chips; and breakfast at Muddy Beach (get the Full Cornish or the French Toast!) Breakfast right on the water with all of the multicolored sail boats!
Can't wait to visit again!!!
This house location was good for what we needed but had several faults which made our stay disappointing. The owner asked for shoes not to be worn in the house but the floors and carpets had not been vacuumed or swept and the previous occupant's hair was on the bedroom carpets and in the drawers in both bedrooms. The windows in the main bedroom did not open. The light bulb in the hallway had blown so needed changing. The appearance was a lived-in property that had been vacated for our stay and not cleaned beforehand. The crockery had to be rewashed before use. In the five years we have been visiting Cornwall so far this has been our worst stay.
My mom and I enjoyed our stay at the lovely cottage. The beds were comfortable and we loved how quite it was compared to the city. Plenty of space in the fridge, and the shower was the best to use. We had some difficulty finding our way to the cottage from the train. It was a down hill walk with our suitcases and we didnât want to wait for a whole hour for a cab to arrive. It was a short walk and we did ask two University students which direction to go because we were not able to get in touch with anyone. Eventually we did find a bus that would take us to the cottage and there was plenty of people to help us find the cottage. We loved the town and itâs charm it was like going back in time in a different time period. Loved the fact that we could take any bus and not wait so long for a bus ride to Falmouth. Loved visiting charity shops and Penryn and the Cornish pasty shop, you donât want to miss. It was a lovely holiday and an unforgettable one. Cheers!
This certainly is a unique cottage. The cottage itself is appealing and certainly in a quiet area. Access is limited on a very narrow street. You may want to keep that in mind and pack accordingly. The town itself has seen it's better days and many of the businesses have closed including the local pub. The Muddy Beach restaurant is recommended, and you will find other choices in restaurants limited. Falmouth about 20 minutes away certainly has more choices. As for the facility itself: We would recommend upgrading the mattresses. They are old and not in very good condition and smelled musty in the main bedroom. The secondary bedroom mattress/boxspring was stained and old as well, Linens for the beds could be much better. This was certainly a major disappointment. Carpets were not swept upon arrival, and they certainly needed it. The cottage certainly did not reflect the seven hundred pounds I spent for a four-night stay. Also, parking is quite limited. We paid for several days in a car park ahead of time and found there were no parking places if one comes in late in the evening. Overall, I am very dissatisfied with my choice in this accommodation.
The cottage is excellent, clean, convenient and has everything you will need. Penryn is quiet, so itâs a trip in to Truro or Falmouth for entertainment, but the buses are excellent. A great place to stay and explore Cornwall.
NOT as advertised & run down: carpet stained, paint peeling, cobwebs, cabinet knobs missing, TV remotes broken, shower rod held together with duct tape. The second âqueenâ bed is full size mattress on a queen frame. Clothes dryer doesnât work; door is held together with tape & locking mechanism is tied on with string. Dishes so sticky we had to wash before using. Lockbox for keys are in trash bin & hard to access plus smelly & dirty. When booking we searched the ENTIRE UK for properties with A/C, clothes washer & clothes dryer. Knowing theyâre rare, we were willing to go anywhere that that met those criteria. This listing claimed to have all three, which was a deciding factor in our booking. To our disappointment & frustration, there is NOT A/C, just an air circulation fan that does nothing to cool the inside temps. So, of the three things that were a deciding factor in booking a 9 night stay, only one was functional. Huge disappointment. We opened the windows but itâs next to main road so very noisy at night so hard to sleep plus mattresses are thin and cheap. The owner was initially âmortifiedâ at our âvery justifiable concernsâ but when we asked for a partial refund, blamed me for not reading the listing thoroughly. Bottom line is the owners are not truthful in listing the amenities offered. If we knew the place didnât have a functional A/C we would not have booked it, end of story. Owners said theyâd not visited the property in two years and it shows. Stay away.
The location was great and the house was so clean and well organized. Weâve had the opportunity to visit many touristic attractions in the area. We definitely recommend Fishcross Cottage and it would be our pleasure to visit Penryn, Cornwall again.
We used this cottage as our base to explore the local area, excellent location, walking distance to several pubs, a convenience store and a bakery. Only a 5 minute drive from Falmouth. The cottage had 2 large comfortable beds, plenty of wardrobe space, a good sized bathroom. We had everything we needed in the kitchen, dining table and comfortable chairs in the living room. Parking on the street is very difficult, but there are alternatives on the main road at the bottom of the street. Would highly recommend.
Lovely old house fillmore character in Penryn, close to Falmouth.
We had our young children with us, however it was not really aimed at their age group (which we were aware of when we booked).
Lots of local attractions nearby for families
We love having guests stay in our entire cottage whilst we are away sailing on our boat. But we also love coming back and staying there ourselves. After all it is our home.
