A great spot to explore the ardeche and ceze valleys. Plenty to see and do. The mas is cool and cosy, a real home from home. The pool is amazing.
The villa is a spacious property with everything you need. We loved the fact that it was away from neighbours, had a great pool and privacy. It got the sun all day and was really just a lovely relaxing place to stay.
Holiday with 8 adult family members. Plenty of space and comfy beds. There was a choice of bathrooms so no queue in the morning. Huge lounge/kitchen area with doors either end giving a welcome breeze in the unusually hot weather for June. Pool was large and very clean and was enjoyed by everyone. Garden was private, not overlooked and plenty of parking space. There were lots of villages and towns to explore as well as domains to sample and buy local wines.Lovely area and holiday enjoyed by all. Would go back back again.
Les points forts : Emplacement et exactitude de lâannonce
Good location, a personal check in proces would have been nice, unannounced pool clean of 4 hours
The house was lovely especially the outside area. The inside is old but has its charm and works. A few things would have been nice, like proper duvet covers instead of sheets with a duvet (with visible stains) on top of the sheets. Some personal recommendations such as good wineries, bakeryâs or must sees to visit would have been nice. There was also a lack of communication that the pool was going to be cleaned on Thursday. Of course it has to be cleaned but we had a scare when al of a sudden a pool guy stood outside the house at 7am and without saying anything left with a pool vacuum cleaner inside the pool till 12.00. (On the one day we decided not to go anywhere). Then an older couple (pool guy and cleaner) showed up Saturday morning at 9 am, probably wanting to clean early, but were irritated (hanging around) that we were leaving at the latest hour (11 am). Not a relaxed end to our stay.
This was the ideal location from which to explore the area. There are so many opportunities for day trips - read Jane's recommendations - and it's amazing to come "home" to your own space and relax around the pool.
We stayed here with our two daughters, ages 12 and 14, for six nights and there was plenty of room for everyone. The building itself is charming with lots of character and the kitchen is well-equipped. Note, you'll need to bring your own sundries, such as soap, toilet paper, laundry detergent etc.
It was hot and sunny during our stay and we enjoyed the pool and walks in the surrounding area. We ate al fresco every evening and bought wine from the local vineyards. It was a lovely week!
Lovely setting although the outside of the property looked a little unloved. We had to clean the algae off the swimming pool steps and some of the slabbing around the pool was unfinished.
The inside of the house had a lovely kitchen and sitting area. The bedrooms badly needed an update with the curtains and sheets. Although the floors and kitchen surfaces were clean there were many areas which had either dust or cob webs.
When we arrived the weather was relatively warm, However the next three days were quite cool (never above 20 C). Night temperatures dropped as low as 5C during this period. Unfortunately during these evenings the sitting area became cool and we had to ring the owner to find out where the logs were for the log burner. At night the bed linen was inadequate for these low temperatures and we had to request duvets which were delivered promptly. This made the first few nights less comfortable than we would have liked.
With temperatures on the low side we postponed our kayaking down the Ardeche.
Instead we visited one of the many sites of interest. We spent a day in Avignon visiting the Palais des Papes and the Pont Saint Benezet. Well worth the journey of 50 minutes.
With the weather improving we hired kayaks and did a relatively short journey from Vallon Pont d' Arc down to Chames. The kayaks were of the sit on type so we got thoroughly soaked. The following day having found our river legs we went for the biggy and kayaked from Chames to St Martin d'Ardeche. This was a mind blowing experience which I do not think I will be repeating. At one stage there appeared to be more people in the water than in kayaks. I was little surprised at the lack of information given by the hire companies - virtually none. The map provided went soggy after the second rapid and hence we had no means of foreseeing the hazards. There were occasions when after seeing the hazard on the rapid it was too late to take avoiding action because of the strength of the current. No crash hats were provided and no tips for survival.
We then took it easy for a few days, visiting local vine yards and eating out. All very enjoyable.
Why give it a 4 star - plenty to do in a beautiful environment; hence the title.
The house in Salazac is perfectly placed within the region to visit all the key sights and has restaurants and shops within a short drive . This is a particularly beautiful part of the Ardeche with such little occupation and light pollution you can see the Milky Way spread across the night sky right above the Gite . If you are looking for urban luxury and fitted furniture this is not the place for you , comfy and rustic best describes this house along with a rather large private pool . If you have a romantic soul and can see the joy in ancient stone walls and enjoy the silence only broken by an evening breeze this is the place for you .
We have just returned from spending two weeks at this great property. The owner has carefully retained all the positive features of an old stone farmhouse but has combined them with the essentials of modern living. On arrival, the house was warm and clean. Little details, such as there being washing up liquid, tablets for the dishwasher and washing machine, sufficient toilet rolls, ice in the freezer, clean tea towels, wi-fi, all added up to make a very homely welcome to this lovely property. The beds are comfortable, as is the lounge furniture. Having visited over the Easter holidays, the evenings were chilly and it was lovely having the wood burning stove rather than having to use the electric heaters. The kitchen is well equipped and the knives are sharp!- plenty of cookware, crockery and glassware. A fantastic base for a relaxing holiday or to explore the area - there are lots of leaflets of places to visit and walks to try, both from the house and further afield.
