Calypso cottage has a beautiful view. Air conditioning works wonderfully and there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out. Mid- week housekeeping would have been nice as towels required washing up. Dryer did not work and the humidity makes for a long time drying on the veranda. Cottage is set up nicely with a short walk to Dickinson Beach and restaurants in the neighborhood.
Property was exactly as advertised. We stayed for 14 nights and the unit was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed. Enjoyed the views from the veranda and spent many hours there. Walked every morning down the road to dickenson bay beach and a lovely beach walk there. Toured the island and a good location for touring lots of beaches and attractions. We appreciated having the use of beach chairs and cooler. We used the patio umbrella on the beach but struggled setting it up so would have appreciated an actual beach umbrella for shade. We used the fans most of the time and only air conditioning for a couple hours in our bedroom before we went to bed. Quiet area but you do hear a little noice from the road below. Everyone was very friendly and we enjoyed our time here and would recommend this unit.
great condo with everything you need. Lanai( porch) was where we lived withbeautifull views, birds and breeze. A bit far from beaches so recommend renting a car to get around.
The host was very friendly informative and extremely helpful. The appartment was lovely and clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our family stay. The views were beautiful and location was easy to access. Thank you for having us, highly recommend.
This is a wonderful, warm home with all the amenities needed at your disposal. The views from the veranda and pool are exceptional. Helen, the owner, was always gracious, accessible, and gave us great recommendations regarding beaches, restaurants and fun things to do on the island. The weather was perfect. We really did feel we were in paradise! Canât wait to return.
An excellent property 10 mins from the airport located by one of the best beaches on the island. Wonderful views and very comfortable accommodation if you wish to self cater when not enjoying the local eateries. A great place from which to explore the island on various days out. Hiring a hire is a must. Large supermarkets nearby. Lovely pool, what more could you ask for.
Calypso apartment did not disappoint. Spacious two bedrooms and baths with living room and veranda overlooking beautiful Dickersons bay. The pictures of the condo on the web were accurate. The condo was clean with a well equipped kitchen , updated bathrooms, and comfy beds. It is convenient to beautiful beaches, supermarkets and restaurants.
It is located in a beautiful tranquil setting. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy!
Helenâs cottage was exactly as expected and as described in the listing. We really enjoyed the large balcony and spent many hours on it enjoying the amazing view. Helen provided many helpful recommendations, including phone numbers for taxis and other services, which was extremely helpful. The rooms are large, the air conditioning in the bedrooms is strong, and the space was welcoming. We highly recommend Helenâs cottage.
The property, pool and villa are lovely, well appointed and maintained. Beautiful view of Dickenson Bay, short (10 minute) walk to the beach. Nice and quiet for sleeping and both bedrooms are air conditioned. One has an extra (single) bed where our teen daughter slept, the room was spacious with a large wicker chair between our beds so nobody felt crowded. Our host was responsive, quickly answering any questions, and also left a helpful list of recommended restaurants. Highly recommend this villa and a stay at Dickenson Beach which has several great lunch and dinner restaurants and a gorgeous, silky soft white sand beach.
Absolutely lovely, wonderful views, great recommendations, Abe is a gem, pool was a delight, walking distance to two wonderful restaurants! Helen was always very responsive, even while living across the great big pond. đ
The property was fabulous for what we needed. We used it as a base to travel the island and see all that Antigua had to offer.
It was useful having parking available and the swimming pool was just what was needed for a cooling dip on returning back home.
The beds were comfortable and the balcony area was great especially with the fans on.
We could have done with instructions on how to use the oven/grill and the WiFi was fairly non-existant unless you were out the front door of the property.
All in all I would definitely choose the property again and would be delighted with what I got.
We had a fabulous stay at the cottage! Perfect set up for us with two ensuite bedrooms. The outdoor space was fantastic. We spent evenings on the verandah after the beach and after dinner. The views from the verandah are stunning! Beds were very comfortable and linens were clean and crisp. Kitchen set up was perfect and very functional. Easy access to several restaurants and the beach. Internet service was great. Air conditioning in the bedrooms for sleeping was perfect! I highly recommend this property. We loved it! The owner was always available for questions and was very nice to deal with!!
Pros:
Easy check in, great communication with host, clean, good location, great view from the large balcony.
Cons:
Definitely rent a car as walking anywhere in the heat is painful as the property is at the top of a big hill. The cleaner cleaned our clothes but mixed expensive white clothes with coloured and ruined the whites. Mosquitos are rampant even when keeping doors and windows shut. Aircon only in bedrooms, wouldâve been nice in the main living room/kitchen.
Charming condo with beautiful view of caribbean sea
My husband and I stayed at Calypso cottage for 12 nights to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The condo was spacious, comfortable, clean, and conveniently located near Dickenson's beach. We loved the verandah and the view of the sea and garden's below. it was a great spot for coffee and a book in the morning and quiet dinners in the evening. Loved the white oleander and papaya tree! and the birds that came to visit. The bedrooms were air conditioned for good sleeping. The host provided excellent resources for restaurants and beaches to visit. It was great to have Shona, the housekeeper come and clean/refresh the place about half way through our stay. The community pool was a really nice space and quiet most of the time. Located a few steps away from the front door! We would stay again without a second thought! Thank you again to Helen and Shona for making our trip so lovely.
Our family enjoyed our week at Calypso Cottage. Helen provided exceptional communication, responding very quickly to all messages. The apartment itself is spacious and comfortable, with a lovely verandah where we spent all our time. The kitchen is functional, equipped with plenty of dishes/cups/glasses and basic cooking tools. Drinking water must be purchased in bottles. Bedrooms are a good size; bring an eye mask if you are sensitive to early morning light. We were happy to find that there were no bugs - we never even took our bug spray out of our bags (Antigua was having a heat wave during the May week that we were there - maybe it was too hot even for the bugs!) That said, we did keep the kitchen clean and did not leave garbage out, as requested. The property at Halcyon Heights Condominiums is beautifully landscaped and well cared for - lots of lovely bright blooms everywhere and a great pool to cool off in at the end of a hot day.
Helen has a beautiful and very spacious house. We were two adults and two small boys (7 and 8), but you could easily stay there with two families - definitely two couples and a child. There was everything we needed there and having two bathrooms really does make all the difference - and having a washing machine! Plenty of towels and linen. The house was fantastic. Helen was also incredibly quick to answer any of my questions - and very helpful. The swimming pool area was perfect and a great size pool for our young boys. It is a lovely quiet residential area and there were few guests but all very friendly. We had thought that the island would still be really busy until the end of April and the end of the UK school holidays - but actually there was nobody there at all. This suited us as we really wanted a quiet break just our family - and we had hired a car - so had the freedom to go to any of the beaches we wanted. But I think it would be quite good to note that nearly all of the beach cafes and bars were closed at this time of year - and only opened on cruise ship days otherwise it wasn't worth it for them...... The other thing is that we had not anticipated the price of food in the supermarkets. SO so so so expensive. Really you have to go to the market otherwise it costs so much as everything is imported. This is of course no reflection on the lovely house - just maybe useful information for anyone looking to book in April. We had a wonderful stay.
My husband and I came to Antigua to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The online description and pictures of this property looked amazing and the price was excellent so we booked it.
We were disappointed when we arrived because everything in person looked a little dated and worn and the beds were QUEEN size, not king. With a 6'3 husband, it's kind of an issue. The AC in the bedrooms worked great but there is no AC in the living room, which we knew. The problem is that there is absolutely no air flow in the living room. The windows don't fully open, only have slat openings, the ceiling fan doesn't work and you can't leave the patio doors open because of the bugs. The lanai is beautiful and offers a great view, but the mosquitoes were quite bad. So we couldn't be outside because of the bugs and we couldn't be inside because it was too hot.
It just wasn't the place for us to celebrate our 25th anniversary, so we checked out early and went to a 5 star resort on Fryes Beach, which I would definitely recommend.
On the positive side, property is very clean, in a great location, and the owners do provide everything you need to enjoy the island. Under different circumstances, this place might be right for others just wasn't for us.
We had two weeks exploring Antigua from our rental.
The location was perfect for both the beaches and for St Johnâs .
We managed to clock up over 1000 km which considering the size of Antigua is a lot of travelling!!
The property was very good value for
money and the location was
perfect.
Renting a private house can always be tricky but in Antigua itâs very tricky as there are no resorts as such where you can go out during the evening. This sort of experience is best enjoyed at one of the many all inclusive hotel and resorts in Antigua.
We tried to book a table at three different hotels and were told on each occasion that we would need to stay for a minimum of three nights ! So we tended to have lunch at the beach and dinner at the property .
The large terrace was perfect for a private dinner with stunning sunsets .
Local supermarkets were very good stocking an excellent range which made cooking at home even more pleasurable.
The property is very spacious and has two large double rooms both of which are en-suite .
The road from the beach is a steep climb but a really good workout as well .
I would recommend buying and using a torch as in the evening it gets very dark very early (in Feb ) so walking back to the house is best with some sort of light .
In summary it was an amazing two weeks staying at an ideally located property.
I wouldnât consider it to be a luxury property but it was 100% value for money.
A big plus when renting is always communication . If we had any queries about absolutely anything the property owner replied instantly despite there being a five hour time difference.
Helen is Amazing at communicating. Shona is great at simple questions about the island. Use them. Ask them questions. You will be happy you did. Rent a car. You will be happy you did. The house is a half a mile walk downhill to Dickinson Bay Beach, but if you want to go explore the island you Must have a car. I can't imagine taking the bus or taxis every time and having to wait and pay for that . Sunsets from the balcony are spectacular. Pool is ok for a quick plunge, nothing special, but views are amazing from there also at sunset with a cocktail. It felt very safe and it was quiet. Kitchen is well equipped except for lacking a couple of wider frying pans. Great selection of chefs knives, silverware and utensils. Fridge is big and cold and you have access to a cooler to bring to the beach along with other stuff like snorkeling equipment.
All and all, in two weeks we had a great time. Keep in mind that you are on an island next to a jungle. You are in nature, so you will have to deal with the constant presence of various bugs. We opted not to use any sprays or chemicals, we kept the place extremely clean, but they still find their way in even if you keep the front door closed and the patio door closed as well. Not a problem for us, but many may be put out by this. We never used the Air Conditioning so we can't tell you how it works as we like it nice and warm. If we wanted cold we would have gone to Greenland not Antigua. đ
Enjoy the rainstorms and soak the warm sun.
Cheers!

We really enjoyed staying at Calypso. It was a lovely cottage with a wonderful view. We enjoyed the location and the verandah very much. Only thing to note is that it doesnât include any shampoo and such for showers. Itâs not listed in the description at all so nothing wrong with the posting. I was just so used to having those that I missed that it wasnât included in this one
