Our ferry sailing was cancelled, and there was no problem arranging new time. The double unit was spacious, private and we enjoyed listening and seeing the birdlife nearby. Definitely recommend to friends.

Great room and all staff at the Bay Motel were wonderful providing helpful advice about things to do, a really useful introduction to the area and taking us to the right places to start a walk.

Great place and lovely people

Great location, lovely views. Jeff and wife lovely people very helpful. Only stayed one night wish it could have been longer. Very clean and beds lovely and nice sheets.

Bay Motel is located on a hill overlooking Half Moon Bay. Our suite was spacious, clean, well-appointed and very comfortable. It also had a nice balcony off the main room to enjoy the lovely view. Jeff and Helen were gracious hosts with Jeff picking us up at the ferry terminal and returning us upon check-out. Couldn't really ask for more!

This is a great location and a nice place to stay.

The hotel owners are very kind people. We enjoyed them very much. The only issue we had was that the room was freezing when we got there and were told the heat didn't come on until 2:00 pm. So we sat there and froze. Other than that, it is a nice place in a very good location near town!

The Bay Motel, Oban, Stewart Island - great views.

We stayed at the Bay Motel between Aug 28 and Sept 2, 2019. We were attending the NZ archaeology conference in Oban, just down the road. We had a magnificent view of the harbour and town. Rhonndda and Jeff looked after us really well, starting by picking us up from the Stewart Island Flights office in town. The weather was so windy and wet most days, but also turned sunny and calm. Bit of everything. The rooms are well heated and comfortable, and protected from the winds. They were happy to fill us in on all activities and places to go around town, and where kiwis might be spotted. The kakas were friendly and visited often on the verandah. Just beautiful. No traffic noise - quiet. I would recommend visiting Stewart Island, doing the walks, visiting the pub (great seafood), and staying at the Bay Motel.

Location was excellent, view was stunning. Shower was forceful and plenty hot water, but I’m not a fan of fixed heads.

I was given a great room. View of the township and bay and balcony which was a bonus. Room a bit dated but clean and very functional. Probably the best on the Island👍

Lovely outlook. Nice clean room with good amenities. Only thing was we would have appreciated a sleep-in but the owner started cleaning the unit next door at 8am and was walking back and forward in front of our sea view room every few minutes. Having said that, her husband was very helpful in giving us a lift to and from the motel with our luggage. Guess she was just being efficient.

The room was large and roomy and exceptionally clean. We did not like the glass door as it let in too much light in the morning. We also did not like having the room attached to the proprietors home as it was extremely loud in the morning very early and we were exhausted and had wanted to sleep in til 7:00 or 8:00. But that was impossible. Sounded like she was moving furniture at 6am.
