Clifftop Sanctuary | Stay Waiheke
Summary:
Perched above the bay, Clifftop Sanctuary blends contemporary design with coastal ease â wide decks, open spaces, and stunning views of Hekerua Bay.
The Space:
Perched above Hekerua Bay, Clifftop Sanctuary is a modern retreat that opens to sea and sky. Sunlight moves through wide windows, cedar tones keep the feeling warm, and every room draws you toward the horizon.
The home is designed for gathering, dining spaces inside and out, a fully equipped kitchen made for sharing meals, and both an indoor and outdoor fireplace for when evenings turn cool. The main living area flows to an expansive deck that looks straight out across the gulf, perfect for long lunches, reading in the sun, or quiet nights beneath the stars.
Inside, thereâs space for everyone to unwind. Four comfortable bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms make the layout ideal for families or couples travelling together. The super-king master suite includes its own ensuite and sea view, while the additional king and two queen bedrooms offer calm, restful spaces finished with soft linens and thoughtful touches.
Modern conveniences, from heating and Wi-Fi to a laundry and easy off-street parking, make every stay effortless. Whether youâre gathered around the fire or stretched out on the deck, Clifftop Sanctuary is a place to slow down, look out, and feel the islandâs rhythm settle in.

The Neighborhood:
High above the coastline, Clifftop Sanctuary looks out over the sweep of Hekerua Bay, where mornings begin with birdsong and the sound of the tide below. A few minutes down the hill youâll find Little Oneroa Beach, perfect for a quiet swim or a takeaway coffee as the sun climbs.
Wander a little further into Oneroa Village, where you can linger over breakfast at Wai Kitchen or enjoy a long lunch at The Oyster Inn, owned by chef Josh Emett and loved for its relaxed island sophistication. The Island Grocer stocks everything from fresh produce to cheeses and local delicacies, ideal for an easy meal back at home or a picnic on the sand.
Boutiques and galleries fill the main street; browse The Tailor and His Lover for natural-fibre design, Body and Souls for effortless beachwear, or pop into one of the local ceramic studios for island-made pieces.
When the afternoon stretches long, head toward the Vineyard Valley, Stonyridge, Tantalus Estate, Te Motu, and Wild on Waiheke all within a few minutesâ drive. Or stop by The Heke Kitchen, Brewery & Distillery for a tasting paddle and an easy meal under the trees.
As the day winds down, the light turns gold across the bay and the air cools around the cliffs. the kind of quiet beauty that reminds you youâre on Waiheke time.
Getting Around:
Getting around from Clifftop Sanctuary is easy. The Matiatia passenger ferry terminal is about a 10-minute drive from the house, and regular bus routes (50A and 50B) connect the ferry to Oneroa Village, Little Oneroa Beach, and Onetangi, with a stop just a 4- to 5-minute walk from the property at the corner of Hekerua Bay Road and Ocean View Road.
If you havenât brought a car, donât worry, taxis on Waiheke can be expensive, and the buses are part of the fun. Jump on a bus, meet a few new people, and make a day of it. The main routes pass right through Vineyard Valley, with stops outside nearly all of the top wineries, Stonyridge, Tantalus Estate, Te Motu, and Wild on Waiheke, perfect for tasting wines, sharing lunch, and letting someone else do the driving.
On the way, youâll pass The Heke Kitchen, Brewery & Distillery, a relaxed spot for a meal or a drink under the trees, with a bus stop right out front.
