Mid century house in Central Franz location

Renovated mid century house. Centrally located so you can walk to everything. Close to shops and walking tracks. Has Bbq and games in the garage in case it rains.

Doors from lounge leads to a porch with outdoor table and chairs. There is a garden with fruit and herbs you can help your self too.

Kitchen is fully equipped. Including Nespresso coffee machine.

Washing machine and clothes line if you need to catch up on washing.

Two comfortable queen beds with electric blankets and mattress toppers. And two single beds. All beds have wool or feather duvets.

There is a heatpump in lounge and panel heater in hallway for colder winter days.

Host was very responsive and helpful; house was comfortable and very close to town so we could walk where needed. We did reduce our stay mainly due to poor weather and not a lot to do in Franz Josef

Fantastic location and plenty of space however lots of little things broken or in need of some love. Front door handle/lock screws falling out, toilet seat, shower drain to name a few. The floor didn’t feel like it had been mopped and branches needed a good wipe on arrival.

Great location, around the corner to everything. We had some issues connecting to the Wifi as what was on the site was not working. After struggling for a bit we called the host who was very abrupt and not overly helpful.The living/kitchen room area did not have a heater, but there was one in a closet in one of the bedrooms that we were able to move to that area to make it comfortable. Very large and roomy.

Comfortable, within walking distance of shop and restaurants, and easy access. Rooms were comfortable and kitchen well stocked. With short hikes nearby and loads of destinations at a distance we had a great time even in the spring rain.

Convenient location

This excellent property is very walkable to the amenities of the town. Great open floor plan of living room, eating area, and kitchen. Comfortable beds and lovely view of the glacier. There was an initial emergency with the cleaners before we arrived. The owner resolved it promptly and communicated the matter to us. After that though, the owner did not respond to our communications/questions.

Well located

Can walk to most hikes to the glacier so ideal for a 2-3 day stay. The house is comfortable and well stocked and centrally located. It was great for our needs.

This is the only accommodation we stayed in that had a 3:00pm and not a 2:00pm check in. Therefore, one would expect it to be clean and ready for the next guests. We arrived at the back of 3:00pm only to find unmade beds, dirty towels, toilet etc. The hostess arrived after us complaining about the traffic. We left the property for her to clean. Judging by what we returned to was a half hearted attempt at cleaning. Our sheets were dirty and creased, and waking up in the morning with a cockroach staring at us wasn’t a good start to the day. The kitchen had a white film over the counters and sink which I then had to clean along with the stained mugs. One certainly doesn’t feel welcome at this property, not even a small gesture of milk to make a cup of tea after a long drive. I do not consider the expired food supplies left by other guests as a token of a welcome. Compared to the lovely notes, chocolate, bowls of fruit, fresh flowers, milk, choice of fresh tea or beautiful soaps that we received at our other accommodations, Mid Century House has a lot to learn in hosting. I’m not saying I expect any of these things, albeit really nice and welcoming, we do expect a level of cleanliness. This property has so much potential but it is run down and needs a good scrub. The price was more than most of our accommodation we stayed in and was terrible in comparison. Not to mention that we had to pay upfront when booking more than six months prior.

Comfortable and spacious in great central location

We had a really enjoyable 2 night stay. The house is within easy walking distance of attractions, restaurants and shops. We had a beautiful view of the mountains from the kitchen and one bedroom. Check in was super simple. Would definitely recommend.

Home surrounded by beautiful scenery.

The check in process was easy and the house was mostly as described however, many different aspects of the house show use and damage which need to be fixed. The surrounded area had many places to visit, including restaurants, walks and shops.

Christmas family stay

House as described, clean and had most of what we needed, we were there on wet days so a clothes drier would have been useful. Bedroom with single beds was small with no bedsides. Unable to take advantage of the outdoor space due to weather. We were surprised on our first evening by someone driving onto the property and parking in the garage, but other than that we were undisturbed.

It was the perfect place for us. We could see the glazier from the house and it was just perfect. Beautiful weather, neat and clean and so comfortable with lots of little extras in the kitchen to make our time amazing. I forgot a pillow and my host kindle had it delivered to my home front door. Although the house says mid-century, it's actually pretty spacious and modern with three bedrooms. It's clear the home has been gradually renovated and is neatly decorated with everything a family needs. The induction cooktops are quick and easy to whip up a meal in quick time (although there is no rangehood so you need to be mindful of steam/smoke from the cooking. The heat pump air conditioning unit was quick to warm up the living room and the bedrooms are heated by a panel heater in the corridor. The washing machine was very handy as was the supplied clothes drying rack (there is an outdoor clothesline too if you are lucky enough to get Franz Josef on a sunny day). The house is a short walk to the main shops and across the road from the kiwi centre. The two walks (Tunnel Walk and Callery Gorge) are also less than 5 mins walk to trail head. Also a shoutout to the host, Susan, who was very accommodating and very responsive.

Great location in Franz Josef

This was a comfy house for my family and I to stay in while visiting Franz Josef. Great walkable location in town. The shower was clogged with hair when we arrived which we resolved, though the owners did respond promptly to our message about this concern. Beds were comfortable and clean. We appreciated the supply of toys which our 3yo enjoyed.
