My husband and I vacationed for a week with another couple and were very pleased with the choice we made.
1. Location - Red Hook has a heartbeat and is where the ferry's run to a variety of islands. There are fabulous restaurants, grocery stores (with an amazing wine room), marina and little shops. Red Hook Dive Center is also located at the bottom of the hill which is where my husband did his qualifying dives for his Advanced OW. The dives are great, however, the center does cater to students so I advise that you check the level of divers that you get paired with on the boat to ensure that the diving is appropriate to your own qualifications - depth, location, type.
The accommodation is perched on a very steep hill that is easily walkable but not with groceries/after a long night out. The view is exactly as the images represent... gorgeous! Yes, the sun rises in the EAST so waking up to the rays over the bay is one of the many wow factors.
2. Amenities - The kitchen is very well equipped and we made breakfast every morning as well as dinner 4 of the 7 nights. The kitchen is smaller than it seems in the image but plenty of room for two to function well it at the same time. The brand new gas grill was great and even though we ran out of propane on the second day the property manager (who is likely the best that I have worked with) replaced the propane tank within hours. The en suite bathrooms are great and even come with hairdryers, soaps and mini shampoos and conditioner. The pool is a shared pool with 4 or so condo's and is not the responsibility of the property manager. There were leaves in the pool upon arrival and the lounge chairs were old, but if you expect resort service and a cabana boy... stay at a resort! Even though the only furniture on the generously sized veranda is a bar with 4 barstools, it is comfortable and accommodated many breakfasts, wine and cheese sunsets and dinners. The air-conditioning units in the rooms are window units, and one room's unit was very loud, however after a long day of exploring and relaxing the cool air was more important than a loud hum.
3. Management - The property manager is not only professional, personable, very responsive but genuinely nice! We inquire about favorite beaches, local restaurants, things to do and she was more than accommodating with advice.
Remember, this is someone's home that you are renting, not a hotel.
I would highly recommend this location.
Thank you for a great holiday.
