Our stay was wonderful, peaceful and relaxing, Paul is a wonderful host, the location is quiet and tranquil, the view is very nice to admire, with the beach just a hop away, I would definitely visit the place again
Good communication from owner and Property as expected. Nice view from the deck and very close to the beach. Itâs an NZ Bach style property, comfortable and clean with everything you need. Good wifi and streaming on the tv. We also used the kayak and paddle board which was a good bonus.
Having left behind the corporate life in Auckland my wife and I share a lifestyle block near Whangarei with her ponies and my two kune kune. I love anything to do with the outdoors and nature. Hobbies include paddle boarding, swimming, cycling, tramping and organic gardening. I also love meeting people and showing off our beautiful natural environment. Having moved to The Winterless North I now have the privilege of doing just that by hosting our bach, Tutukaka Time.
Time to escape in our own back yard. Sit back on the deck overlooking the tranquil bay with a freshly brewed cup of Tutukaka Roast. Stroll 50m to safe swimming Pacific Bay beach or take the short (but steep) track from the back of the property to secluded Honeymoon Bay. Paddle the magnificent Tutukaka Harbour on the SUP & sit-on kayak provided. Tutukaka Marina & cafes are just a 15 minute paddle or 4 minute drive away. Enjoy fresh seasonal produce from the organic orchard & veg garden.
While the driveway is flat and just along from the beach the house itself is at the top of a steep lawn, but the views are well worth the effort! The living area is upstairs and flows onto decks on either side so you can choose between sun and shade; beach and private bush views.
If sharing the beach is all too much head out the back of the house down the private drive and further down a short but steep track to your very own beach hideaway, Honeymoon Bay.
Cooking essentials are provided in the pantry. Depending on the season you may also enjoy some of the organic fruit and vegetables growing in our garden. Please take only what you will enjoy during your stay and be sure to leave plenty for future guests. Boat parking by arrangement. For access to magnificent Poor Knights Island and some of Northland's best fishing spots the closest public boat ramp to the harbour mouth is just 50m away. No queues & no fees.
Tutukaka Marina & cafes is just a 15 minute paddle away from your stay or at low tide you walk there around the bays in a leisurely 45 minutes. Another magnificent coastal walk will bring you to stunning Whangaumu Bay and further along beautiful isolated beaches to Ngunguru (choose low tide for a dry option).
Snorkelling is popular around the rocks either side of Pacific Bay. If swimming is your thing Pacific Bay is the starting point for TOGS (Tutukaka Ocean Group Swimmers). You can swim right into a sea cave (1.5km return, around Philip Island (1km return) or over to Tutukaka Marina beach (2km return).
Tutukaka is the base for visiting the famous Poor Knights, widely regarded as one of the world's best dive and snorkelling sites, and for some of the best fishing Northland has to offer.
The Tutukaka Coast boasts some of the best beaches in the world; among them Matapouri (10 minute drive) and for the surfers Sandy Bay (a further 7 minutes). A delightful coastal farm walk runs from Sandy Bay to Whananaki, part of the Te Araroa trail.
