We had a lovely time in Ohakune. This property is very peaceful and has a beautiful view on Mt Ruapehu. The place was very comfortable. Just note that the stairs are very steep.
This was cheap and cheerful accommodation which would be very good value for big groups in particular. We appreciated how clean the kitchen and bathroom were. Like most older A frames it is rather dark inside and there were a few cobwebs, but if you're out all day doing adventure activities. this is a comfortable place to come back to. I appreciated Shona's flexibility when we had to change our travel dates.Note it was very easy to hear noise in the second unit, so this might not be an ideal spot for noise sensitive folk if a loud group is staying next door
I stayed there for about a week.
We were able to spend a quiet and relaxing time in the midst of nature, surrounded by healthy animals such as sheep and chickens. The house is handmade, so sometimes there is a creaking sound of wood, but once you get used to it, it is comfortable. There was a time during our stay when the wifi did not connect, but the owner fixed it.
I would recommend this place to anyone who likes to spend time in nature.
We enjoyed staying here as a stopoff between Northland and Wgtn. The property manager Oakley was very helpful and even offered us fresh veggies from their garden. The kids loved the chicks in the garden. House was fine - looked very solid and self built some time in the past. Was very quiet at night and had a good sleep. The stairs to the top level are quite steep so young kids may be better downstairs. Our kids are 8+ and were fine with the stairs.
