Great place for family gathering
Our party of 13, which was small by Villa Mila standards, was comfortable and happy in this rambling villa. Everyone had plenty of private space and there were also many rooms in which to gather and socialize, including a room with a cool old pool table. Highlights included a dinner catered by the owner's son and daughter-in-law, a bike ride along the Adige, and strolling into the village for pizza. A car is definitely recommended
though there is a small train station in town. We enjoyed day trips to Verona, to Montagnana and Monselice, to Venice, to Chioggia. Bring bug spray for mosquitoes, though they didn't bother us upstairs.
Beautiful house and grounds packed with character and charm
Villa Mila, set in the sleepy town of Villa Bartolomea, is a beautiful house & grounds packed with character and charm in every corner.
Even with 29 guests, which included a horde of children, there was plenty of space for us to socialise together or separately without feeling confined or restricted.
Due to the really hot and humid weather in August this year, we spent the majority of our time on the veranda or by the pool for alfresco dinning and card playing!
The children kept themselves entertained and dispersed across the many rooms within the house, with some playing Console games in the sitting room, others having piano lessons/practice on the mini-grand piano in the music room or pool tournaments on the full-size billiard table.
The above ground pool is a good size and depth for cooling off and allowed us to have great fun playing five-a-side volleyball. Unfortunately, there is some standing water near the pool area, so the mosquitoes are rampant. I think we emptied the local supermarket of all their bug sprays and repellents!
The villa is a great base to go discover the region, we had several day trips including to Verona, Lake Garda, Montagnana and Ferrara. We also enjoyed local bike rides down the river Adige and local towns on the villas collection of mountain bikes.
The town is really sleepy, which added to the charm and to our sense of relaxation. The local facilities were excellent however, with local bakeries, bars, restaurants and a good size supermarket. We had the most fantastic Florentine steak at local Da Battista restaurant, which I would highly recommend and can catering for large groups.
Villa Mila was beautiful and charming and provided really great value for money. I would highly recommend it.
Nice for family gatherings
We stayed a week at Villa Mila in July 2019. We gathered the whole family - 4 generations in the villa. The villa is old (as you can read in the history of the villa) and authentic. The villa gives you the ancient good Italian feeling. And it is big. We were 20 persons and never had the feeling of a crowded house. The park surrounding the villa is wonderful. You can enjoy a walk, or the swimming pool, or other activities in the park. Near the villa is the river Adige. You also have at your disposal 10 bikes. The villa is fully furniched and the kitchen gives you a good opportunity to cook. And outside you can arrange a barbecue. We also enjoyed a nice typical Italian meal, cooked by the son og the owner. 95% of the ingredients were local. Mirella is such a service minded hostess, and given you all the help you want.
Moscitoes were a little bit annoying, but we brought good products to solve that problem with us.
Everyone in the family were happy and satisfied with the stay at Villa Mila, but unfortunately - the week ended.
Thanks from all of us to all of you at Villa Mila for a stay that we will remember a long time.
dear Mrs. Andersen,
it was really a great pleasure to have you and your wonderful group here at Villa Mila as guest. You were the ideal guest anyone would hope to see living in his own house:
clean, cheerful, respectful of the rules that an old mansion like Villa Mila needs to be adopted. And what we especially appreciated is the fact that all members of your group were in total tune with the atmosphere and character of an old family house, which, notwithstanding the charm it may have, has always some inconvenience to be overcome (old bathrooms, absence of air conditioning, etc.). I lived in that house the most carefree and amusing summer days of my green years with my large family (five children and two parents) and my great desire is to offer to my guests the same carefree and amusing athmosphere that I experienced in those days. From your review I may understand that you have got it.
Thanks a lot to you and to all members of your group.
Harpsichord Course in a Vast Villa near Verona
Villa Mila was a perfect venue for our harpsichord course. The harpsichords looked perfect both in the main sitting room with the painted frieze and ancestral portraits and in the very pretty smaller sitting room. We were 19 altogether and we managed to keep cool despite the unexpected heat wave peaking at 41 degrees! The more active members of the party made good use of the swimming pool.
We had two harpsichords and our tutor Dr Penelope Cave gave us insight into the early music of Northern Italy, including Gabrieli, Pasquini, Marcello, Rossi, Galuppi to name just a few. Many enjoyed the short walk round the corner for an aperitif before supper.
Two of us did all the catering and the kitchen was adequately equipped but an additional coffee machine would have made life easier at breakfast and coffee times. The local supermarket was close so made shopping easy.
Thank you Alessandro and your son who kindly gave us a talk about the history of your family and the Villa. We’d like to say a special thank you to Mirella who looked after us so well and was always on hand and to Martha the maid.
I look forward to organizing another music course, in due course, at Villa Mila, as there is so much to see at Verona Mantua and Padua and somehow a week just wasn't long enough to take in the sights as well.
