A wonderful family holiday property and ideal location
We had an absolutely fabulous stay at the cedars.
Too much to write to will do a bullet point review.
Pros
- location is so wonderful. Amazing to have Windermere as a back garden!
- size of property and rooms perfect. Loads of space to relax and enjoy inside. We were 7 adults and 2 young kids and it didn't feel cramped at all.
- close to lots of lovely walks and activities
- parking for three if not four cars
- well stocked kitchen with dishwasher and two big fridge freezers
- 4 bathrooms, one bath
- big utility room with washer dryer (same building but accessed via outdoor door)
- kids games and toys in the property
- great host and easy communication
- nice big towels
Cons
Only a few little issues which host kindly tried to resolve. But I think it might just be the area. The Internet was very patchy and not accessible all around the house. Not a big issue for a holiday but given signal is bad it could be problematic if planning to work from here.
Had some issued with lights not working but these were resolved by host.
Coffee machine is very fancy but didn't work well. It's an induction hob (for those planning to bring their own)
As we had a crawling baby the hard slate and wooden floors were difficult to navigate but this is only a problem for families with very young kids prone to falling!
Overall we really had an excellent stay with a few little niggles. I wouldissued if I could! We would very happily be back and would highly recommend!
Lovely property in forestry setting and short walk to the lake. Roomy with good seating and two televisions making it perfect for a large family with children. Wood burning stove and a well equipped kitchen, and nice, clean bedrooms. Utility room very warm and great for drying clothing and wet suits.Host very approachable.
A bit muddy with puddles outside front door but understandable in the setting of the Lake District!
Great house and well appointed with lots of bedroom space. Kitchen a bit small for 10 adults but expect it would not be a problem for families. Access to lake windermere was amazing and it felt very private. A few problem with upstairs shower but maintenence person turned up immediately. Would stay again
We had a great time staying at The Cedars. The house looked great on the pictures but blew us away when we saw it in real life. Very spacious and a wonderful stay for a celebration with friends/family. Very luxurious.
We came away for our first family holiday since the children have been born and we could not ask for anything more. The Cedars was amazing and catered for our every need as a family of Auntie's, Uncle's Grandparents and children. Communication with Lois was fast, polite and we were well informed. We arrived and the check in process was so easy, when inside we realised how beautiful the place was and the kids had toys etc to keep them entertained whilst the rest of the party arrived. We had space for the kids to run around and the lake was about a 1 minute walk which was great for the kids too. It was so quiet (once the kids were in bed!) so gave the adults some well needed resting time and we could relax on the furniture outside which was just amazing, we stargazed at night and sat on the jetty looking up at the stars once it was dark which was so quiet and peaceful... it was idyllic! The stay felt like a home from home and was not too far from the town and shops so we could access everything we needed for breakfast etc. The utility room on the side of the cabin was brilliant as we could wash the kids clothes etc which was a massive help to us! I do agree with another review that the sofa's are a little dated but they were still comfy but that is my only one comment but The Cedars is an incredible place to stay and we are already planning on coming back here!!
Very comfortable place to stay with plenty of everything in the kitchen. The BBQ and outside areas werenât very clean. Despite this it was overall a fantastic place to stay. Superb view 2 mins from the property and plenty of trails. The 505 bus will pick up with a hand signal and drop off at the property
House is beautiful and in a lovely peaceful location. Kitchen was well equipped and bbq was big enough for food for all of us (6adults). Beds all comfy. Had an issue with one shower whilst we were there and Lois had someone out checking it within 15 minutes which was great to have such a responsive host! The downstairs sofas are getting a bit tired and it would be useful if the guest book had some more info on local walks (and how to use the coffee machine!), but these are minor points and i would absolutely recommend this place to get away from it all! Saw deers and an owl right outside the house and was able to walk down to the lake with our paddleboards (less than 5 mins), which was great! Thanks Lois đ
Lovely property hidden away in a gorgeous forested area on the shores of Windermere close to a lake district town centre. Spacious, clean, comfortable. We had a summer stay so weather conditions warm but there was a stove and heating. Suitable for energetic primary school age kids. Would stay again, happy with it.
Great holiday in amazing weather. The Cedars was just perfect and its location was superb, We have stayed at The Cedars many times before and hope to return - a family favourite!
The property and location were perfect for our family. Lots of space to get together, lovely views, warm, clean and comfortable nights. Super to be so close to the Lake and nature. House overall well equipped. A larger fridge and freezer in the Utility Room would be appreciated. Also hooks in there to hang wet walking clothing and a rack to dry shoes. Everyone enjoyed their stay. Thankyou Lois.
Lovely spacious house and well equipped. Excellent communication from Lois prior to our stay. The location is wonderful, we saw lots of wildlife from the house and enjoyed walks and cycles straight from the door. Close enough to Ambleside to nip in for some groceries or a takeaway, yet feels secluded and private at the house. Comfortable beds, very clean, modern bathrooms, excellent utility room. Highly recommended.
A beautiful appointed property, I have stayed with friends and also as a family party and each time itâs just perfect!
Large enough to have your space whilst also working well with the open plan kitchen and lounge. Great communication from owner, nothing is ever too much trouble.
5 couples and 2 children stayed for a week of adventure and relaxation. the accommodation was fabulous and suited us perfectly, especially the ease of letting all of us to eat and sit together. The bedrooms were great.
Most impressive was the location. We swam, kayaked, paddle boarded, ran, mountain biked, climbed all from the front door.
And then we relaxed. in front of the fire. A brilliant family adventure holiday.
We stayed over Christmas in this wonderful house, which is beautifully presented. It is modern with everything you need for a wonderful holiday. With enough bedrooms for everyone and plenty of space. A lovely setting with wildlife all around - we saw deers and squirrels which the kids loved. The house is a real haven away from it all. Just a short walk to the lake and so very peaceful. Not far into Ambleside and close to the Drunken Duck for a fab lunch or dinner! Lois is also a great host and very communicative.
Would highly recommend.
We had a fabulous few nights over New Year. Everything about the house is beautiful. It is finished to a high end and has everything you will need and all mod cons.
The location is perfect too! A stone's throw from Lake Windermere and nestled in quiet woodland. We saw and heard plenty of wildlife whilst there. You are straight out onto beautiful walks and only a few minutes drive to Ambleside.
There were 6 adults and 2 teens and we were more than comfortable.
Will definitely return!
My husband, Jon, and I fell in love with the Lake District some years ago. For me, it was all about the views and the afternoon teas, but I am gradually coming round to the idea of climbing mountains. Jon has been known to 'avoid the traffic' by taking the kayak across Lake Windermere to the pub at Watersedge. Our two young children love joining us at 'our holiday home'; we will have them climbing Helvellyn before too long!
As frequent visitors to the Lake District, we fell in love with the location of Pullwood Bay, the tranquility of The Cedars' woodland setting, and the ability to wander down to the lakeshore.
Wake up to sound of silence, start up the built in coffee maker, and wander down to the lakeshore to watch sunrise over Ambleside. After a day's walking in the nearby fells, kayaking on Lake Windermere, either stop to sample the food and beverages at the renowned Drunken Duck or fire up the BBQ and retire to a position by the cosy log fire.
