We had a stay of 12 friends for fantasy football group and the place was perfect. Downstairs is a communal area with the kitchen and plenty of space, chairs and tables. Upstairs was another living room area with 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The lake was incredible and the area surrounding the barn from the fire pit to the golf course was amazing. We will be coming back here.
Stayed here over Labor Day weekend with a group of friends and canât say enough good things about the place! There were 11 of us and every one of us wants to come back sometime soon. The property is immaculately kept. The landscaping is beautiful. The dock is well kept and supplied with kayaks and a swimming platform for your use. There are quiet spots to view the beautiful lake and plenty walking trails. The owner, Dave is helpful and friendly. Love this place!!
Our group of 13 loved our stay in the barn-dominium. There was more than enough space for us all to enjoy ourselves and not feel crowded. The entire property is beyond beautiful and well kept. Beautiful flowers and landscaping. We all loved the lake and paddle boarding/kayaking that was provided free of charge. The kids loved swimming and jumping off the dock. We hope to come back again next year. We have been searching for years for the perfect place for our big group to unwind and this was so perfect. Thanks for sharing your barn with us!
We loved our time at Kabekona Hills! The lake and surrounding area are beyond beautiful! Everything you could need to have fun on the water is available to use. Beautiful sunsets, fun hikes!
We have already planned our next trip!
We brought our family back again for another vacation. The group of 13 all enjoyed the stay and none of us wanted to leave! It was even better than the first time we stayed with the added hot tub and outdoor lights/patio couch. They provide almost everything you could need and give you privacy and respect. The kids love swimming in the lake and we enjoyed one day out on the pontoon. We already booked for next year and canât wait! Thanks for having us. You truly have a magical property! We even considered moving up the big house for next year but all agreed we love the vibe at the barn!
Go ahead and book it, youâll have zero regrets. The setup is great for a large group and thereâs endless activities on the property to keep you entertained. The place was clean and the host was responsive, no complaints from our group.
The property is beautiful. The owner was helpful and so was the property manager. Any issue or question was immediately addressed. This was our 2nd stay at this location. This time around there were hardly any durable kitchen utensils to use, nor did they have any towels or dish rags for the kitchen downstairs. Also, we didn't bring a hairdryer because one was listed in the amenities. Could not find one anywhere.
It seemed to be just leftover items that people forgot at this point. Last year was totally different. Although they do have a kayak, paddleboards, etc., you do have to share them with the house next door. I feel that for the price you pay, you should have your own items to use. Not as happy with this trip as we were last year.
Stayed in the Barn House for one last summer trip before school starts and we all LOVED IT! Amazing property with well groomed landscaping and grass. The lake was relaxing and enjoyable for fishing and swimming. Enjoyed the quiet seclusion of the property and will definitely be back!
We loved everything about this property. The lake and grounds are beautiful and well kept. The 'barndominium' was clean and provided great areas to gather, play games, eat, and relax. The lake has canoes, paddle boards, and kayaks provided. The owner was available and paid attention to all the details of our stay. The location is easy to access. We would definitely recommend this to anyone for a family get together, family reunion, women's retreat, men's retreat, fishing/lake weekend--any excuse to be here. There were fourteen of us--28 thumbs up!
We stayed at the barn because we needed a place for our group that would allow us to provide our own meals and stay together. The sleeping accommodations worked well with our group because we had young adults with a few parents. Plenty of bathrooms and space for bringing out.

David and Marie Hazell lived in Russia for eight years working on Bible translation. In 1992, shortly after communist walls began to fall, they moved their family to the depths of Siberia where they assisted with printing the first Scripture portion in the Evenki language. David and Marie also served in Moscow, coordinating translation projects in 70 minority languages of the former Soviet Union. The family's move back to the United States in 2000 marked a new era in their support of international missions work as they now devote their time to starting businesses that promote the principles of the Kingdom of God including giving a majority of company profits to Bible translation and other worthy non-profit endeavors. Please consider helping them with this endeavor at God's Word for the Nations (gwftn.org).
Kabekona Hills Retreat Center was established to provide a peaceful place for retreats, and family reunions. The owner's grandfather had a dream of owning property that could provide weary Christian soldiers (pastors, missionaries, and Christian laymen) solitude on lakeside property where they could rest in the hand of the Eternal Creator. Purchasing property in Northern Minnesota on Lake Kabekona, grandfather Bratrud shared his find with many Lutheran preachers and his land became respectfully known by many as preacher's point. Now two generations later with seed money from the sale of the family cabin on Lake Kabekona, we desire to carry on grandfather's dream to establish a peaceful resting place and a place of celebration for those who serve God's Kingdom. Kabekona Hills Retreat Center is a place 'where one road ends and the adventure begins.' Come and rest in the hand of the Creator.
