Nice and cozy cabin.
Cabin was clean and close to the water. Close to town. The cabin was in a quiet neighborhood too.
Great rustic cabin... but don’t go on the porch!!!
Loved the cabin and location to everything for the price. We never did figure out how to walk to the beach which was disappointing, but still enjoyed the neighbourhood. A couple suggestions:
- replace the deck!! The deck has rotten beams and my kids almost fell a story down to the concrete. Many posts aren’t secure at the bottom and light leaning on them caused them to give way. I was going to move some of the planters infront of them, but then noticed those planters were already in front of other posts that were missing. Lock the door going to the deck and put up a warning sign until it’s effectively fixed!!! Please please please. I would had for a kid to get hurt or worse.
- add the lock box code in the email that is sent out from homeaway. Not everyone has a cell phone to get a phone call the day of access (ie international travellers)!
Great location and place to stay with what our plans were.
Terrible communication with owner, cabin not cleaned
The week we were to leave on our trip some issues arose that were going to potentially prevent us from leaving. I looked on the listing to see the refund policies which clearly state no refunds. I reached out to Martin, the owner, to ask confirm this policy and ask a couple days in advance if he was able to refund any of our rental fees. He confirmed no ‘he was a shrewd businessman’ and didn’t care if I couldn’t make it- no refunds. I can think of many other ways to convey that information without being a jerk about it. No worries, we scrambled to deal with our issues and make it to leave on-time. I messaged him the day of our check-in (clearly stated on the site as the method he prefers for sending the code to check-in) that we were able to make it and please send the door code. 3 phone calls, 2 messages, 2 voicemails and several hours later he finally responds (AFTER the check-in time of our first day) and messages he didn’t think we were coming and the house isn’t cleaned. We never said we weren’t coming, only had inquired about the refund policy. If you’re keeping 100 percent of my money you can be sure I’m going to do all I can to make it to my vacation. He offered to credit us the cleaning fee as the house wasn’t cleaned or ready to check in. The beds were stripped of sheets, not enough clean towels, we had to hunt around for 20 minutes to find the proper sized sheets to make the beds ourselves. I messaged him this and he never once apologized for the miscommunication (on his part) or for the inconvenience of making beds ourselves. Martin did NOT refund our cleaning fee, and if I could have given him zero stars for communication I would have. What a jerk and a bad memory for our special occasion (anniversary) Not that the occasion matters more than giving polite and prompt customer service to a paying customer. Martin doesn’t care about your experience- only your money.
My husband, son and I had your cabin booked for Wed/ Thursday night this week. I see your policy is no refunds, but I'm messaging to ask if you ever make any exceptions. We've had 2 separate issues arise over the last 24 hours that make leaving difficult, and would really appreciate the opportunity to cancel. Almost $500 is quite a large expense for our family, and it would be less stressful of a decision if we knew we could get a refund. I appreciate your time and consideration.

Hi Stacey, sorry to hear about your unfortunate situations that have arisen at the last moment. The cancellation policy is set up the way it is because it is difficult to find a guest at the last minute. Yes that would be good for you and your family but what about me and my family? Should I be penalized for whatever issues you might be having? As much as I might want to be generous and refund your payment the tough business man part of me has to let you know that I won't be able to give you a refund. I hope that you can understand.
Stacey did not contact me again until 10 minutes before check in time on the day of her check in to tell me that her plans had changed and that they were now planning to come. I am not always immediately available to talk on the phone or text back. When she called, I was in the middle of a construction project where I was using loud power tools and doing physically demanding labor.
Because I have multiple properties that I manage, I try to schedule cleanings in groupings for efficiency. I didn't think that they were going to stay and it was going to be more efficient to wait until the next day to clean when I would have had two places to clean. I offered to let the clean in exchange for the return of their cleaning fee. Typically it is left pretty much cleaned anyway.
Not giving back the cleaing fee was because I simply forgot. The security depositis typically get automatically refunded so I am not ususally doing anything monetarily on the back end of the stay. If she would have simply reminded me, I would have happily refunded her money. Now after the public undeserving poor review I might begrudgingly refund her cleaning fee.
To call me a jerk and to say that all I care about is making money I take serious offense to. I really regret renting my property to Stacey and I would not ever rent to her again.
Treasure in the woods!
This place is awesome! It's a perfect cozy vintage nook amidst incredible beauty. The owner has thought of every detail, super complete kitchen & loads of awesome blankets! We loved staying here!!!
