The perfect location, away from the crowds and just a 10 minute walk into Grasmere. Walks directly from the property so we had several days without moving the car. We had the most amazing weather which made the week a great experience. If the weather had been dull, then the property would have been dark as it is surrounded by mature trees and a lovely wild garden.
Small one room bedsit with tiny kitchen & shower room
Aged furnishings in need of refurbishment, cleaning not up to standard e.g. kettle base with crumbs and staining, drainer with crumbs. Floors not clean, particularly kitchen floor. Main surfaces were clean. Had to leave early but returned and stayed in local hotel instead. Garden was pleasant to sit out in. However this was essentially a converted study not a cottage.
Overall the place was quaint an small . We enjoyed our stay very nice location peaceful an walks straight from the door . But it was not as clean as it could be mould in the shower ,taps lime scaled ,sink in kitchen needs a good bleach . An the wifi is non excistence ,which was a pain as we could not research places to eat an go with our dog . So a little disappointed . But a nice charming place . The views are nonexcientent . As now to over grown ,all trees block the view the garden needs a bit off attention an the cottage could do with a spring clean .
Very quiet and private with no noise pollution. Over grown garden was amazing. Feels like your in the middle of the woods. About 12 to 15 mins walk to Grasmere. And 5 mins walk to lake
If your like walking there is a great walk via the caves to Amblside town.
Would definitely book here again.

Very nice period property, very quirky, very relaxing to sit out on small terrace for breakfast also evening drinks.
Lovely atmosphere. Lovely hosts very friendly and warm welcome on arrival, looking forward to a return visit.
Great location, good walking distance to Grasmere , but still very secluded in itâs little woodland. We had the pleasure of crisp blue skies for our stay which was perfect for walking, although a little chilly in the cottage. Easily rectified though by snuggling up by the fire đ„ Thanks to the hosts as well for such a warm welcome
Booked this stay a while ago for My wife and I, (and the dog).
It didn't disappoint :-)
Location was perfect, hidden in the dense woodland but yet only a short distance from civilisation (Grasmere).
A mixture of modern (Kitchen/Bathroom) and "oldy worldy" quaint in the open plan bed/sitting/dining room.
Loved every minute of it - despite the weather.
Will seriously consider coming back again.
Overall we had a reasonable stay. The location was perfect. The cottage, not so. we had a couple of problems with the water and warning!!!! TAKE a TORCH T night you can't see you hands in front of you!!
We love the Lake District so we weren't disappointed in the area at all. We discovered a beautiful walk and run for the dog, just across the road. It's up for sale and if I had the money...âŠâŠ..
Not for us but it is fairly unique.
Thank you Ruth for your help and knowledge.

What a perfect place - despite the weather I had a wonderful week. The Lodge has been well planned and had everything I needed -without undermining its Edwardian origins. A perfect retreat providing peace and tranquility. Lots of great walks and the it was lovely to return to The Lodge and its 'hideaway' setting. I look forward to returning. I was made to feel so welcome.
A perfect hideaway. Only just off the main road but may as well be in the middle of nowhere, it's that quiet. Perfect for exploring the walks local to Grasmere - we didn't move the car for three days. The cottage is all your need. Ruth, our host, is great and always around if needed for anything.
Very nice unusual period property with everything you need. Bathroom new and good shower. Kitchen is a bit small for space for preparing food. Garden outside very lush, it is enclosed but shared with the big house next door to the property. If you have dogs they will be roaming in a garden shared by owner and visitors of owners. Owner is very nice lady.
This was the perfect accommodation for us plus one dog. Accommodation owner was helpful but never intrusive. Good central spot to get to all our favourite places to walk. Will definitely return.
Lovely cottage, excellent location, good value for money
The owner was excellent in her responses and very organised in providing the check in details. Quirky cottage that is unique and in a fantastic location.
The lodge is in a wonderfully secluded location just outside grasmere, surrounded by an enclosed woodland garden. The property itself is a bit tired and could definitely do with a deeper clean and a bit of tlc- particularly the bathroom and kitchen which need a total revamp! having said that, it does grow on you after a day or two, was warm and cosy and certainly peaceful. My elderly mum found the steps down into the kitchen a bit difficult at times - a handrail would be useful (there is one down to the bathroom ). we did, however have a lovely enjoyable few days, as did my young spaniel, and would probably book again as it was a good base, the garden was just âusâ and the communication with host was good - Ruth even provided me with a zbed so that I didnât have to bed share with mum! Thank you!
Great Cottage in Best location to get around Lake District
Wonderful holiday. Close to Grasmere village and and lakes. Great base for walks and further trips around Lake District. Thank you for very friendly welcome.
Ladywood was built by Ernest de Selincourt in the early 1900s, and has remained in the family for four generations. Ladywood Lodge was originally built to be a study, but has been offered as additional or holiday accommodation at various stages. The location of the house, surrounded by mountains and with views of Grasmere and Rydal lakes (now somewhat obscured by the trees but originally visible from the house and garden), makes it a very special place. The main house has always been a home, and has been the location for annual holidays for successive generations of family.
Ladywood is in a stunning location. Surrounded by views, it is very private and peaceful. The garden is beautiful year round. The closest neighbour is a farm along the road, and being a side road there is no traffic noise. Badgers and deer frequent the property (and we ask that you keep the gate shut to prevent the deer from coming in to eat the garden).
Ladywood Lodge provides a perfect location for walking or sightseeing, being right in the centre of the Lake District yet apart from the crowds that frequent the towns. There is plenty of onsite parking, which is unusual. The fitted mahogany furniture and fireplace are original and give the Lodge an air of elegance. The windows all look onto trees and mountain views. Although it is close to the main house the Lodge has a private entrance.
