Holiday fun âup Northâ - North East what a feast!
We enjoyed our 2 weeks at Riding Lane Farm. We explored various points of Hadrianâs Wall, walked the countryside around the accommodation as well as checked out the coast and fab beaches from Bamburgh down to Sunderland...not to mention the daily visit to feed the chickens, which my boys (and we) enjoyed.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. It is a working arable farm which Louise and Angus manage as well as the 5 or so rental accommodations onsite and more offsite. Louise was very welcoming, helpful and friendly throughout.
As a family of four we had two interconnecting 1 bed cottages each with onsuite.
Pros
- Value for money was excellent
- Super comfy bed and pillows
- Suitably furnished with comfy sofa
- Well equipped kitchen (I always take my knife sharper)
- Good quality white goods
- Friendly farm dog who will visit occasionally
- Louise let us keep veg scraps to feed the chickens. You can even buy their eggs for a full farm country breakfast!
Cons
- Weâd prefer more privacy: shame the large windows didnât face the countryside instead of the car park and other the accommodations. This could be easily remedied by adding net curtains, shutters or similar (eg trellis planting) to obstruct the car park view
- Lack of outdoor furniture to dine outside
We booked a last minute stay here and had stuck a great time. Lots to do around the local area and the farm was very peaceful, we even had a chicken to visit our garden! The house was well equipped and all covid measures thought out. Thank you for a lovely stay (the homemade cake and eggs on arrival were lovely too) đ
Itâs hard to put into words how much we loved staying at Riding Farm. So pretty with local walks and villages, and convenient for road trips around the North East. Thank you Louise and Angus... we had a ball.
This is the most gorgeous cottage! Plenty of room for us both sleeping and living and the parking is plentiful. The local area is very pretty and its not too far to go into Newcastle. Its also a great spot to travel to see the sights. We visited Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum, Alnwick Castle and Beamish Open Air Museum. The rest of our time we visited family. The Metro Centre is a massive shopping precinct. We also visited 'the Angel of the North' (or the Ginger Geordie as my cousin put it!!) which is breathtakingly impressive. Our hosts were really lovely and warm and welcoming. I would come back and stay in a heartbeat.

Riding Farm where Riding Cottage is located has been my home since 1989, but has been in my husbands family for 3 generations. We are a working family farm and live near the cottage, so if there are any problems, please shout. We have tried to do the cottage as we would like to stay in. Family friendly, fully fitted kitchen, comfy beds and nice smellies to name a few
As the say goes its location, location , location . you are surrounded by peaceful countryside yet only minutes away from Durham and Newcastle. Beamish Museum is only 7 minutes away, some guests have even walked it ! or explore further afield like Hadrians Wall, Alnwick or the coast
