We were looking for a relaxing family holiday this year. Came across Chez Poitier in a the small commune of Bessac. Photos looked perfect for what we wanted and a quick look on Google Earth confirmed that it really was in a league of its own for tranquility...so we booked. Linda and her son Adam were most helpful in this process and I can not thank them enough, quickly answering any questions or worries I had.
To say that we were impressed would be an understatement! We loved it as soon as we arrived and we were greeted by Linda and Bill, who were waiting at the property for us.
Location: Amazing views to the French countryside in a really quiet setting. The only neighbour was at least two fields away behind the house. No properties were overlooking us. Zero traffic to be heard and only the occasional tractor! Just perfect!
Inside: The house was very well equipped with everything we needed and exceptionally clean. Although there were only four of us, all the beds had been made up before arrival, so our two children could pick a room to call their own for the week. The kitchen was large and spacious, as was the living and dining areas. All kept cool with tiled floors and plenty of windows. Very light and airy rooms. A selection of DVDs provided allowed for some cosy evenings on the sofa. 2 double bedrooms and a twin bedroom downstairs with a further double bedroom upstairs (with en suite) and an additional twin bedroom next door meant the feeling of space was definitely there.
Outside: A private pool area with decking surround meant for secluded sunbathing. Kids loved it! At night, the lighting around the pool area allowed for evening dips under the stars (light pollution was not a factor)! Also an outdoor dining area was provided for a more refreshing dining experience. With large, secure grounds for the kids to run around in, they were never short of opportunities to burn off excess energy!
Locally: We found the Carrefour Contact in Blanzac (10 minute drive away) had most of the essentials that we needed during our stay, although we did stop off enroute for the majority of supplies. Plenty of big supermarkets to choose from in Angouleme.
Overall: Would recommend a stay here without a question! The area is perfect for a quiet, relaxing getaway; the property felt very homely and tastefully decorated; the owners have done a brilliant job. Many thanks to Linda, Bill Adam and Simon for making our stay a memorable one!
