We stayed as a couple over Xmas with a friend joining us for New year. It is a lovely home and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Judith is a great host very helpful with lots of little details. We had a fantastic stay and would not hesitate to recommend.
We had 7 glorious days at Chale Reefs. The staff were all excellent and the cook - Wima - prepared some amazing meals. We walked along the beach in the mornings, swam in the ocean and the pool. Read a lot and generally did not a lot and we both feel better for it. A walk along the beach to the village is well worth the effort to see the friendly locals in their own environment. Would we go again? Of course we would!!!
No words can describe the charm and beauty of Chale Reefs, the pictures on the website do not do it justice. The house is large and spacious with stunning views over the gardens and the sea. The beach literally feels like an extension of the garden, and is nearly always totally empty. The staff were excellent, helpful and friendly and Bakari could not do enough to help and show us around the local villages.
The pool and tennis court are great and there is a great book selection around the house.
It is the perfect place to unwind and relax, with lots of area's to sit both inside the house, on the balcony and outside.
The bathrooms are quite old and the water pressure unpredictable but overall the house has a charm that is impossible to describe unless you actually stay there. we would definitely think of going back in the future.
When the owner retired from an international company in 1986, after 20 years of living in Kenya, the family wanted to retain a connection with this wonderful country and its people. By chance they came upon Msambweni and were at once taken by its relative remoteness and lack of tourist development. The beach was very uncrowded then and remains so now. The whole family was excited by the idea of building a house on the beach and the house was completed in 1988. Chale Reefs is regularly visited by the family, including the five grandchildren, who now live in the UK. We support village efforts particularly the voluntary Msambweni Orphans Programme and an educational charity set up by our daughter (www.etatu.org.uk)
