This property is absolutely amazing. Such beautiful views and well stocked kitchen and well stocked paper products. Spectacular views of the sunsets and enjoyed sitting around the fire relaxing and taking in all the beauty that surrounded us. Highly recommend this rental.
A lovely view to start each day!
The views from the property are stunning, looking out over the lobster pots that pepper the bay. The property is simply furnished but well-equipped, from a comfortable queen bed to lobster pots in which to cook your own lobsters if you so wish. The steep-ish steps down to the little beach onto which this and half a dozen other properties have access are only a few steps from the entrance to the house. It is a real bonus to this vacation rental if you have a dog(s) and our Labrador enjoyed many hours running in and out of the water regardless of tides. The steps take you down to a small stony/gravelly beach which is still accessible at high tide, and covered with periwinkles in the inter-tidal area. The water in late June was warm enough to swim in and shallow quite a long way out so low tide goes out a fair distance. We were grateful for the use of the kayaks (complete with paddles & lifejackets) and enjoyed some exploring nearby coves. Deep water starts on the far side of the tree-covered island you can see in the photo, a relatively short distance from the mainland, so kayaking this side of that is relatively safe. There are plenty of places on the property from which to enjoy the views over the bay and all the activity of the lobster fishermen, as well as the stunning sunsets, with a large picnic table, a hammock, Adirondack chairs (adjacent to a fire pit) and seating on the deck giving you plenty of choice. The yard is unfenced but the dirt-road quiet so we didn't have to worry too much about our dog. In June, the weather was cool enough to enjoy the fresh air without overheating, with sea breezes wafting through the property. The view from the large picture-window in the sitting room means that you can also enjoy relaxing indoors if the weather isn't obliging. There's a wonderful old stove inside, so if it's cold you can quickly heat the property up too. Note that there is no door between the bedroom and the sitting room, so little privacy if you have someone sleeping outside in that sitting room. There is a small convenience store (limited range of goods), Ship to Shore, and USPS post office just down the road and a lovely little ice cream parlour and Mitchell Field Nature Preserve (good for a 45 minute dog walk, with public beach) only 5 minutes away in the other direction down Harpswell Neck Road. You need to go to Brunswick for a full supermarket shop (Hannaford's is great, with super-cheap seafood!) A lovely 'get away'!
Everything we hoped!
This rental couldn't have been more welcoming, and the pictures are 100% accurate. The views from the entire home are the reason to check out this thoughtfully well-stocked rental. After enjoying the kayaks, we spent most evenings around the fire-pit watching the sunset. Everything was so thought out, and nothing was missing from our week-long stay. Nearby Bailey's and Orr's Island, plus Freeport and Brunswick make for wonderful day trips.
Literally, the only thing we noticed was that the carpet throughout the home had a LOT of dog hair, and those without animals may notice this too. Thankfully, we do not have allergies, but potential renters should know this! It would be great to have a vacuum cleaner there.
We hope to return again. Thanks to Vinnie and Susan.
Peace and Quiet in Lovely Harpswell
My husband and I love this area, spent a week here at this cottage with our two dogs. The cottage is cozy, with well stocked kitchen and comfortable queen size bedroom. We so enjoyed the pretty view of the cove and watching birds from the house and deck. We used the fire pit most nights and the kayaks provided most days. The stairs to the beach are steep, but worth the effort if you can do it. The yard is really nice, big picnic table if you want to eat outside. WiFi was super. We love nearby Erica's Seafood and Dolphin Restaurant. Nice hiking trails all over nearby, as is general store and post office. Bailey's Island is one of our favorites and we took a boat ride from Cook's with the dogs water touring the area that was so fun, plus walked the Grand Staircase trail there which is so beautiful. Owner is responsive. Great place!
If getting away from it all with your dog (s) is your goal then The Perch is the place for you. Supremely quiet with breath taking scenery this rustic place offers peace and tranquility from the usual hustle and bustle of daily life. The cabin was well equipped for indoor and outdoor cooking and the queen size bed was very comfortable. Vincent, the owner, was pleasant, accessible and helpful . He responded to our two questions within minutes. Since our purpose was to retreat from life for a few days, we did not mind the absence of cable television. Instead we watched DVDs of shows we had been meaning to catch up on, but that was only at night when we could no longer see the ocean view. With the picturesque seascapes and landscapes, we found ourselves not wanting to do much except soak up the scenery. We did however tear ourselves away to enjoy the shops and restaurants in historic Damariscotta, Bath, Brunswick, and Old Port/Portland, all a short drive from The Perch. And the visit would not have been complete without a stop at L.L. Bean and the Freeport Outlet stores. We also visited some of the local stores like Allens Seafood where you can get lobster for about $5.00 a piece and Ship n' Shore where you can get just about anything.. And I would be remiss if I did not mention the delectable treats at Island Candy. Overall it was a wonderful stay. The dogs had a field day and we got some much need rest. We would gladly come back....FYI don't forget linens, towels and pillow cases. Leave blow dryer at home. Camera is a must!
Wonderful cottage on secluded cove. Amazing sunsets!
My wife an I have stayed in this cottage numerous times in all sorts of weather (spring, summer, fall) & have always enjoyed it.
The cottage has an amazing view with easy access to a tidal beach. The cove has great swimming in the summer - safe and (relatively) warm.
Inside the cottage is cozy with a wonderful old wood stove to pours out plenty of heat. The perfect place to read a book on a cold or rainy day while looking out the windows at Middle Bay.
