Peaceful and relaxing

A lovely cottage with character right by the river - swim, walk, relax and enjoy! Hosts are beautiful people and very welcoming. Loved it.

Very peaceful

We had a really good rest. No TV so a good rest from that too. Lovely scenery but shame about the March flies. They put me off going down to the river but when we did the water was lovely.

A very quiet retreat

I had a beautiful stay here for a week. The river runs past the verandah and there is a large variety of birds visiting the garden. The hosts are lovely people.

Staying in paradise

The property really relaxed you. It was lovely just sitting back and listening to nature. The hosts were also very welcoming. Overall, a great place to stay.

A lovely place for a quiet getaway

Bill greeted us and left us to enjoy their little piece of paradise. The cottage is close to their residence but still very private. Lots of birdlife and stunning vista's to enjoy. A cozy cottage with a nice warm fireplace was just the place for a weekend getaway and not far from Dorrigo or Bellingen to explore waterfalls or quaint cafés.

Relaxation

The studio is quite large and well furnished. The location is remote, but that's what we were after. The sound of the river running is very relaxing and there is an abundance of bird life. There's a large verandah facing the river, with a table and chairs, a lounge and a couple of chairs to read books and take in the view. The kitchen and appliances etc. are all you need to whip up a decent meal. The hosts, Bill and Sharon are very welcoming and we joined them at dusk for a drink or two by the river. We were also offered to use the kayak to drift down the river. If you're after a very relaxing stay - this is it.

Lovely 2nd stay.

You know you only return to places that are good! Our 2nd stay at Darkwood was as lovely as the first. We love all the places to day trip to (Dorrigo, Bellingen, Coffs Harbour, Sky walk, Myelstrom beach) and the serenity by the river at the end of the day. Thanks Bill & Sharon.

Peaceful paradise

This lovely cabin sits alongside the main house but it is private & overlooks the pristine Bellinger River. The cabin has everything you need - open fire, funky 50's-style kitchen, air-con, comfy bed & bathroom. There's no TV but there is wifi so we watched a couple of movies on our computer at night. Mandarins & oranges are in abundance & drop from the trees. We juiced these every morning & enjoyed then with our breakfast while sitting on the deck, overlooking the river, with the sun on our backs. Nature is at its best here. Fish in the river & even the birds are friendly. Bill & Shannon are a delightful couple & couldn't do enough for us. Take plenty of food/snacks with you because the nearest store is 10-minutes drive away. Once you get there the peace & quiet will melt you. We will definitely be back.

Perfect Country Retreat

We had such a relaxing time at the cabin. The fireplace, the super comfy bed, the INCREDIBLE rain shower, the sunny verandah - it was a perfect place to escape and unwind. Add to this fresh oranges from our respectful yet very friendly hosts, abundant bird life, spotting the platypus in the creek, venturing out on a night walk to find glow worms shining like fairy lights, afternoon strolls, incredible scenery and more stag horns than you’ve ever seen anywhere, just growing wild in the trees. We met super friendly locals ( and their gorgeously pally pups) and felt completely recharged by our 3 night stay. Tip: it IS getting away from it all, ( for us city folk!) so take everything you’d like to eat and drink! Go well stocked.

A beautiful place to recharge.

What a beautiful location, surrounded by nature and the gentle sound of the nearby river. Birds are plentiful and we were lucky enough to see a platypus. The host is a charming character and is happy to share his knowledge of the local area and wildlife. Highly recommended for a restful getaway and to immerse yourself in nature.

Away from it all

Spent a lovely 3 days at Bill and Sharons hideaway . If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life again then this is place for you .The beautiful town of Bellingen is nearby and the coast is just another 10 minutes so it is a hidden gem within easy access to much more. If able we will return in summer to enjoy the swimming hole on the property .

Away from it all

Tucked away in the countryside. Cozy stove lit for us in the evenings. A bit chilly in the autumn mornings - a bit of heating to get up to along with the plentiful hot water supply would make it perfect.

Perfect getaway

OMG where to start. Lovely peaceful location on a river surrounded by a rainforest and heaps of wildlife to see. Kookaburras, king parrots, too many birds to list all of them but the best few animals we Saw were 2 potaroos,mother and baby together in the gardens, these were a privilege to watch in their habitat as they are endangered and also saw a Wompoo fruit dove. Sharon and Bill were perfect hosts and knew a lot of places to go fishing and look for platypus , very friendly and welcoming. And the cabin was beautifully presented. Will definitely be going back there in the future. Thanks for allowing us to stay at your beautiful property. We loved every minute of our much needed holiday. Cheers Narelle and Rob

Wonderful stay

I loved my time spent at River Cottage! It was only for a few nights but the location was beautiful and both Sharon and Bill were wonderful hosts who were available for help if I needed it. It was a perfect spot to unwind for a few days in the bush and I really enjoyed sitting out on the porch, listening to the sounds of the river and watching all the beautiful birds come to visit!

Gorgeous place for a private getaway

My husband and I loved our time here. The house was spotless and beautiful, the view was gorgeous and the hosts were wonderfully friendly at check in and check out, while still giving us all the privacy we need.

Idyllic spot by the river

After a winding picturesque drive in, Bill, the cottage & the river welcomed us. A refreshing visit - just like going back to childhood in the country. Lots of nature around with the comforts of home. Bill & Sharon are amazing hosts that are around if needed but leave you to enjoy family time :) We will be back!

Idyllic getaway

We came here for the serenity and the beauty of this part of the world, and were not disappointed. The cottage is nicely presented, with adequate cooking facilities, and a verandah for enjoying the view and some birdwatching. Our host gave us the chance to kayak on the river, which was a lot of fun. Bellingen and the coast are within easy driving distance, although I’d be happy not to budge for a couple of days. Highly recommended for those who can enjoy life without a screen.
