The cottage was well equipped and in a good location to visit both coasts. It was warm and attractively decorated. We found parking easily nearby. Thank you for a relaxing break.
Lovely spacious cottage in beautiful village location
We are a family of four - two adults and two children - plus the dog, and chose this cottage based on location and prior reviews.
We stayed two weeks and it was great, were delighted to have a spacious kitchen/dining area and separate living room (this wasn't obvious from the pictures) as well as the courtyard at the back. The kitchen had everything we needed too. It is worth noting that the single bedroom is quite small but overall the cottage suited our needs perfectly.
Chulmleigh village is really lovely, very friendly and all the essentials in the convenience store and some lovely other shops and pubs - we particularly enjoyed our meal at the Red Lion and our takeaway from the Tandoori!
The location was fantastic also, very central and not difficult to get to any of the many beaches or other attractions. Thank you so much again Martin, we will definitely stay here again next time we visit Devon!
Great old cottage with all mod cons, except Wifi, but we went away to get from all that. Well located base for Exmoor and gardens at Rosemoor. Peace and quiet in a charming village.
Recommend you change your cleaning services; could use a deeper clean. Since dogs are not wanted upstairs a door that latches would be beneficial. More toilet paper supplies would be appreciated as would the ability to make coffee. The house is in a lovely location, if a little difficult to locate at first.
The cottage was spacious for guests. Things Iâd add: an additional comfy chair for the 5th person when sitting in the lounge.
I was disappointed with the facilities in the kitchen and the cleanliness of it. The work surface was sticky as were all the appliances and cupboard doors. I cleaned before I did any cooking. There was no coffee making facilities. The two frying pans were badly scratched so unusuable (damaged Teflon surfaces are dangerous to use). It would have been useful to have a few dishwasher tablets included in the rental cost. And a few toilet rolls.
The bathroom and bedroom facilities were great. Are you aware there is a huge hole in one of the bedroom floors, covered by the carpet.
This is a much nicer cottage than might first appear. It is centrally located in the village with a very short level walk to the shops and pub. The only downside is its location, a 40 minute drive to the coast. And for you cyclists out there, it is on top of a hill!
Clean, well presented cottage situated in a central location of a lovely village with convenient shops and pubs.
The only minor issue is no WIFI (could be seen as a bonus to the majority, but unfortunately a lifeline for my teenage daughters).
The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. It was cosy and welcoming and centrally located for touring Devon. Very reasonably priced and a must visit for all. We would definitely book it again.
Lovely, clean, well decorated cottage but the shower is very weak and the main bed we found too soft and bouncy. Has a little courtyard that isn't mentioned that gets afternoon and early evening sun.
This is a lovely property! A cosy, characterful cottage that had everything we needed for a long weekend break. Itâs location is a great base from which to explore north Devon. Would definitely recommend and hope to revisit in the future.
A beautiful, homely cottage set in a secluded location next to the churchyard, with everything you could want or need for a comfortable stay. Owner was accommodating when we arrived slightly early. There isnât any WiFi, but we werenât too bothered by that, it encouraged family board games :)
The only slightly negative point is the weak shower, although it is nice and hot!
All in all we had a lovely few days away at this cottage and I personally could have moved straight in.
We loved this cottage. Reasonably priced and stylishly decorated. Would benefit from replacing mattress in single bedroom which was rather tired (like the person that tried to sleep on it!) and providing wifi, which would have been useful for work. Also, a more powerful shower would have been appreciated. Great communication with the owner. Chulmleigh is a pretty, friendly village - we enjoyed walking to the bakery each morning to buy our breakfast! Thankyou for having us!
Sweet old cottage with enough space for 5 adults and one dog. We stayed here last summer as we have family in chumleigh we enjoyed our stay again and liked the update to the bathroom.xx
Nice, period cottage, deceptively spacious with all amenities you would need for your stay. The cottage is quite tricky to find and slightly hidden at the end of the grave yard. Thereâs no parking outside the cottage itself, so you have to use the free parking spaces either side of the Church, but these can fill up quickly.
The cottage is located in the lovely, friendly town of Chulmleigh which describes itself as a town with the feel of a village and thatâs quite true. Its off the main road located in rolling countryside and very peaceful. The town has two pubs, the Old Courthouse (a proper locals pub that does food) and the Red Lion but this was still closed during our stay. Thereâs also a corner shop (open early & late), butcher, deli, bakery and a very good Tandoori curry house which you can sit in or have a takeaway. Be aware that some shops close on a Monday.
We had a couple of issues during our stay â the hot water and TV Sky box werenât working as they should but the owner (Martin) took steps to quickly resolve these.
The main points that we should highlight:
âą There should be some sort of âwelcome packâ for guests to refer to for such things as how-to on appliances, local information, details of local walks, shop & pub opening times, that sort of thing.
âą The shower needs a stronger power pump.
âą The main bedroom mattress was very springy (for us).
âą There is no Wi-Fi, something that in this day and age is becoming a necessity for guests.
All in all, a lovely stay.
