This spacious house with wonderful a walled terrace garden at the back is located inside the walled village/fortress of Villefranche de Conflent. It is a great place to stay, both to visit the village and the area around it. There is loads to do in the area, in addition to looking around Villefranche. Our other tips would be to go on the Little Yellow Train, visit the Grottes des Canalettes, & walk up to the viewpoint above the Abbaye Saint-Martin du Canigou - go in the morning before it gets too hot. The bar in the square by the church is a good place to grab a drink in the evening when it is cooler. You don't absolutely need a car, the local buses are âŹ1 per ride and go frequently enough if you plan ahead.
Beautiful town in a lovely area. Highlights were the walk up Canigou and the hot baths are St Thomas. Weather was perfect for the time of year. Food was excellent with some lovely restaurants very nearby. Thank you to Nicola for great communications.
So much to do in both the village and surrounding area. We enjoyed meals in the restaurants and soaked up the sun in the square. The village church is lovely and we walked the Ramparts and up to Fort Liberia.
THOMAS les bains was a great experience and we walked the gorges de caranca and also up to St Martin du Canigou
