This was everything we wanted and more! We relaxed, explored and ate. They provided a great notebook full of restaurants, must see, beaches and more. A real locals guide to the island. I would stay here again!
Cool location, power trouble
We were amazed by the location when we arrived. The in-law is perched above a huge river, which this time of year (Dec) was raging. It was great to sit on the small patio with coffee or lunch and enjoy the view. The awning made it so we could be comfortable hanging at the little table while the rain poured down. The house had everything we needed and Gary was very welcoming and helpful with tips for the area.
The only issue that could have been a bigger problem had it not happened on our last night/morning, was the power cutting out. There is a note in the house handbook about it, but it is rather downplayed. The kitchen wall, including the fridge, completely shorted out and we had to hand rinse our laundry and take it with us wet in trashbags because the power tripped and we could not get it back on. My husband is pretty handy and just gave up on trying to reset the breaker only to have it pop off immediately again (washer) or not come on at all (fridge). We made breakfast on the little hot plate by plugging it into an outlet on the other side of the living room.
Again, we definitely enjoyed our stay overall and from other reviews, this doesn't seem to be a trend, but it was an inconvenience for sure. If this was fixed we'd definitely recommend the house!
Home away from Home
The property was situated on a waterfall the views were amazing and so was the hospitality of the owners. We had freshly squeezed juice along with home made jam to welcome us and the owner even offered us fresh ground coffee. The place is very cute and the sound and sight of the waterfalls was amazing and so was the neighborhood that the home is situated in
The Sound of Heaven in Hilo
Escape, is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this property. Sitting on the porch, overlooking an amazing river, a slight breeze, and the sound of the waterfall so calming yet powerful is more than enough to whisk you away and think you might be in Southeast Asia. THE best place we have stayed on the Big Island this trip and perhaps to date! A rare find indeed. Cheers
