A gem in down town Charleston
A wonderful character property, with all the quirks you'd expect but a lot of the amenities that you perhaps would not!
We had everything we needed and more for a long weekend exploring Charleston by foot.
Will definitely be back!
The condo was perfect. Very clean and convenient to everything. When we come back to Charleston we will stay there again.
Also, I forgot my laptop and the owner was nice enough to ship it to me the next day!
Charleston Kitchen House
This was a great place to stay for a weekend trip to Charleston to visit our daughter and her fiancé. It is small but quaint. The only downside is the parking which was very difficult to maneuver into the drive. We would rent again and it being dog friendly was a plus.
8 windows, 2 open partially. The blinds on eight windows are all in various stages of disfunction.1 door in and out no escape from 2nd floor in the event of emergency. Kitchen sink is a mess. Overall not very clean. TV,s were a challenge. At least 15 wires coming out from the wall to TV and speakers downstairs. Neighborhood is in transition and a bit sketchy. Downstairs could use some table or floor lamps to brighten things up. Bathroom tub and shower could use some new caulking. We would not stay in this awkward "Skinny" house even at half the price. The stairway upstairs is very steep and would not conform to today's code. Charleston was a joy and we wouldn't hesitate to return, but not in this property and we would hesitate to use VRBO. We rented for a month and left after 2 1/2 weeks because we simply didn't enjoy the accommodations. Photographs don't lie, but they also don't tell the truth. The photos of this property is an example of that.
We first would like to apologize for this experience. We strive to provide the utmost in service and a comfortable stay. When you are a guest with us, we encourage that you express any issues with us directly, especially if you're at the property for an extended stay (weeks/months). We have already addressed a few of the issues: re-caulked the tub, better organized the tv wires, and deep cleaned the sink. These types of issues would typically be taken care of immediately. The house is a small historic 700 sqft cottage and is a rectangle shape (typical of a historical Charleston home). It is not a "square" as previously described. Keep in mind it was built in the 1890's. Therefore, it is certainly unique. Some people may be better suited for a hotel environment, not a Homeaway property. Every home is different and comes with its own unique characteristics. To address the windows, not all of the windows are " painted shut." The window upstairs that leads to the porches and roof is accessible, as well as the window downstairs that leads to the courtyard. Typically in an old Charleston home with original windows, some are sealed to prevent air leaks in order to properly heat and cool the home, as it gets extremely humid in the summertime. Again this is not a typical review during a stay at this home. We work very hard to accommodate our guests who truly enjoy the historical experience this city has to offer. We keep a well appointed, clean property; and feel confident that you will enjoy your stay in this home downtown with off-street parking, and a walk to what Charleston has to offer!
