Young's Cottage : Maison de particulier au bord de l'Atlantique prĂšs de Dingle
"Tigh na Meala" is the Irish for "House of honey" which was the original name of this two-storey cottage, stunningly situated on the Atlantic coast 10 min outside of Dingle town in the direction of Feothanach, Ballydavid and Brandon Creek. There are three bedrooms, one with a double bed( master), one with a bunk bed (two singles) and one with a double bed and single bunk (sleeps 7 total). The beautifully renovated farm house has a large kitchen and living room with a traditional fireplace including the original antique iron crane (see photo). There is a cosy bathroom downstairs with bath/shower and a toilet upstairs as well. The breathtaking view from the front of the house looks directly out on Smerwick Harbour to the south and to the West lie the Three Sisters and the Atlantic horizon. To the east is Ireland's second highest mountain, Mt. Brandon, climbed by Celtic/Christian pilgrims since the early Middle Ages. Also visible in the distance are the hills of Great Blasket Island. Total privacy, a cosy house facing the North Atlantic & proximity to Dingle's lively pub scene are what this house offers.
Very tasteful and personal cottage that makes you feel at home from the first moment. The house is very well equipped, and every single room has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere magnificent sights on sea and landscape.
We loved everything about our stay at Young's Cottage. While exploring the whole peninsular we saw amazing views at every turn. But at the end of each day, we both believe the best views were those from our front yard. The house had everything we needed, host were very responsive and we will be back to stay here again.
We enjoyed this cottage as our home base for exploring the Dingle peninsula. It is the classic Irish stone cottage, with a vastly upgraded kitchen. Please note there is no wifi, or tv, this is a place to unplug and enjoy the surroundings. Make sure you hike up the hill behind the house to see the crumbling castle and marvel at the cliffs descending to the wild Atlantic below.
Young's Cottage was a nice escape and a good way to see the west. The cottage has a very homey feel to it and is quite cozy on wet or cold days, and we had a couple even in July! We had a couple clear days, though, and the views across the bay it faces over to the Three Sisters were beautiful then. The bathroom is very modern. Communication with our host was easy and made check-in a breeze. There's no wifi so be ready to disconnect from your technology or pack a good book!
We had a great time and love the house - it's a gorgeous place and never fails to delight us. On the bad weather days we were happy to stay in, knit and entertain ourselves. Thank you so much for letting us stay.
The cottage was incredible! The kitchen was fantastic and was beyond our expectations. The fireplace was cozy. The view outside the kitchen door was mesmerising and a joy to experience in all weather. Thank you for the great book selection and impeccable taste in decorating. Your home was greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
Youngâs Cottage was a magical setting and home away from home while exploring the Dingle Peninsula. A short drive from the town of Dingle, beautiful surroundings, quiet and quaint, we got sunshine and some weather, which was perfect. The cottage was well equipped and clean with updated kitchen and bathroom. The beds were quite comfortable. And lots of walking opportunities around the area including a hike up Ballydavid from the house. Very peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend a stay here!
We have stayed at many home rentals in various countries and this was by far our favorite. The view and location alone were incredible, but the house itself takes you back to a simpler time but with the modern conveniences. Walking up to look out the windows at waves crashing on the rocks across the bay and the sun shining on the mountains was refreshing for the soul. Easy access to all of the Dingle Peninsula, but remote and quiet.
Second time friends and I have rented Youngs Cottage. Found it as welcoming, warm, cozy and peaceful as the first time. The views are spectacular rain or shine.
Kathleen is a wonderful host. She made sure everything was perfect upon our arrival.
Weâll be back!

This characterful cottage is just off Slea Head Drive and has a great view of Smerwick Harbour and the Three Sisters. Although there were a few housekeeping issues with the kitchen that the owner is addressing, we enjoyed our stay.
This wonderful cottage is situated in the most dramatic and breathtaking landscape, one could stand outside and gaze for hours on end. Itâs only a 10min drive to Dingle. Thanks Kathleen for having us! We will most definitely be back soon!
We enjoyed the sympathetic restoration of the cottage, it was down to earth but at the same time very comfortable for our whole family. The big kitchen was perfect and we were lucky to have good weather to be able to sit outside.
The neighbouring cows were great!
Great house, all basics very good - warm, water and windproof, solid doors and lovely stone floors, and great furniture and comfortable beds. We were 4 adults and 2 tots and it all worked very well for us. We had enough dry(ish) weather to get out and swim every day - Ventry was a Godsend for early morning adventures with my grandson and although the weather was not good, the sea was unusually warm which made all the difference. Loved being back on the Dingle and loved the house, a million thank yous for letting us stay.
We arrived to the property and the key wasnât in the lock box, but a quick call to Kate (who answered right away) and she sent Donal to come out with an extra key. He arrived in less than 10 mins and let us in. That promptness and communication earns a top grade in my book!! The views were amazing and we couldnât get enough. I lived the view of the three sisters. The friendly cows that always came to the fence to say hi, the water and rain noise, the crashing waves, we started fires each evening in the fireplace and loved sunset. We were far enough from town for privacy and isolation and to relax but close enough to get into town easily. The beds were SO COMFORTABLE and I loved being able to sleep with the window open in my room (so I could hear the rain, wind and waves crashing) but the bed had an electric blanket so it was perfect. It had everything we needed and was so perfect for a getaway and the perfect Irish experience. THANK YOU!
I am originally from County Cork. I grew up in an irish speaking family and we spent our childhood holidays in West Kerry. I fell in love with the area and the cottage is now my family holiday home with my three sons. The area is an inspiration for me as a singer with the area`s rich irish traditional music culture.
The cottage is a unique location with total privacy and stunning uninterrupted views of Smerwich Harbour and the Atlantic ocean. Winter or summer, it is a beautiful warm, quiet and peaceful place to be.
It is a traditional house maintaining its original character with wooden beams and stone floors. There is a feeling of going back 100 years in time. For me it is the only place in the world where time stands still and one can forget all the stress of work and modern living.
