Marvelous cottage off a peaceful country lane â absolutely charming! Nestled back off the road, surrounded by trees, flowers, and ivy, it was beautiful and serene. Each morning we woke to the song of birds â so peaceful and restorative. After a long, difficult journey from the States, it was such a joy to arrive at the cottage and be greeted by Mary. The cottage itself is lovely â spacious, large windows with stunning views, full of light, and very comfortable accommodations. Everything felt warm and welcoming.Maryâs personal touches meant so much to us â her delicious homemade jam and scones, and even fresh lettuce from her garden! Everything was fresh and thoughtful.Mary and the cottage made our trip complete. We were so grateful to have a place to stay where we could rest, feel at home, and simply enjoy the beauty around us. Truly a special and memorable experience. We would stay here again, if possible, next time we visit. Thank you Mary.
We really enjoyed our stay at Alder cottage and cannot wait to return. We had everything we needed and check in with the lovely Mary was super easy. The area is very beautiful and the cottage itself felt like we were the only people for miles. The outdoor table tennis table was an absolute bonus!
We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely place. It was spacious and well-equipped. It was particularly delightful to be able to light and open fire for the cooler evenings. Mary's welcome was warm, very helpful and prompt in her communications. Thanks Mary for everything.
Spacious, clean and comfortable house with good facilities. Nice garden with a pingpong table. Nicely situated in beautiful area of Dromahair co. Leitrim.
this was a wonderful place, a real find, and Mary went far beyond in helping me settle in. friends came out as a surprise and they were accommodated as well. i canât wait to come back.
We really enjoyed our holidays at the Alder Cottage. The cottage is very cosy and located in a wonderful nature. You have a good connection to Sligo, different beaches and the hills. We made a day trip to the north ( Wild Atlantic Way). Mary was the best host ever. She took much time to show us the farm. Thanks a lot for the warm welcome.
Great property, great host. Mary was kind, helpful and apologetic for the rain! We did however find plenty to do even on the rainy days.
If I made one suggestion, it would be to have a mirror somewhere in the house close to an outlet to make it easier to dry ans style hair.
But really, everything eas wonderful!! Thank you for your hospitality.
This is a lovely property, very spacious with nice grounds. Our host, Mary, was very helpful and easy to deal with. The only surprise was the extra charge for some utilities. We were aware that there was a fee for heater usage which is fairly common here, but there were also charges for hot water and electricity. It should be mentioned in the listing too avoid confusion.
This was our first time to Ireland and what a blessing it was to find this cottage! It was perfect for our family of 4 (although had enough beds for 5). I let Mary know approximately what time we would get to her place and when we arrived, she was there waiting for us. The cottage was very tidy and included everything we needed. She even had homemade biscuits and jam for us which we greatly appreciated after a long flight from the US. There was a washer and dryer and she provided laundry detergent. She has a real fireplace if you want to light and enjoy a nice quiet time in the living room. Outside there is a ping-pong table which my kids (and husband ) enjoyed. She has a fishing pole that we could use and showed us where to go to her lake to fish. Although we didnât catch anything, my kids really enjoyed it. Throughout our entire stay Mary was very responsive and even came right over within minutes to show us how to use the fireplace when we had a question on it! You are also with 15 mins or so from a grocery store which we were able to buy groceries for our meal and load up on Cadbury candy which is much better than the one you find in the US!It was the perfect stay and Mary was such a lovely host. If we ever had the chance to come back to Ireland, hopefully Maryâs cottage is available to stay here again.Thank you so much Mary!
The property was very clean, well presented, and fully equipped. Mary was very helpful in making us feel at home and provided a replacement BBQ of which we made good use. We drove around the surrounding area extensively and visited Sligo and various places on the Wild Atlantic Way touring route. We were extremely lucky with the weather and had very little rain, so the remote location was not an issue. We enjoyed our trip to The Shed distillery at Drumshanbo and also to Parke Castle on Lough Gill. All the equipment in the property was good quality and functioned well, including the TV and wifi, so we had a very comfortable and most enjoyable stay.
We stayed with our family at the cottage for a week in August. The house was simply wonderful and the location was perfect for taking advantage of all that this area of Ireland has to offer. Mary was an incredibly gracious host and provided us with great information about the area.
For a week we were able to relax, explore and make many day trips North of Sligo. This may have been the first time where we have stayed in a house where the pictures don't quite capture the house's beauty. Whether we were having dinner outside, enjoying a fire or having fun cooking in the beautiful kitchen, this house exceeded all of our expectations. We would return to this cottage in a heart beat.
We arrived after 9.30 pm, this was no trouble to the fantastic host Mary. Due to our late arrival she very kindly got us some supplies in. Mary gave us directions to various towns and activities we could do with two teenagers. The house was well stocked with all you need. And the table tennis table was a big hit. Thank you for a great stay, we will be back.
Alder Cottage is a wonderfully quiet cottage with everything your heart desires. A great idyll to relax and escape the stressful everyday life. Maria received us warmly and gave us a list of interesting places to visit in the area. Thanks for the nice stay.
A very comfortable cottage with all amenities ideally located to explore Sligo and Leitrim wonders.
Lovely to go off exploring the awesome historical / scenic features that abound and return to a comfortable home base to reinvigorate and prepare for the next adventure.
Mary was a delightful helpful host and our stay of over a week most economical. Local super markets and great pubs made it very easy.
What a great place to stay! Mary, the owner, was so helpful and kind. Quiet, quiet location with a very narrow (!) driveway. The front room was so comfortably decorated, and a great place to read and watch a movie. Kitchen was amply equipped, and bedrooms were spacious. The hot water/heating system was a bit fiddly for us in that we didn't really understand it, but Mary was there to answer all questions. Highly recommend this property if you're looking for some quiet get-away time.
