The Old School Lodge

Nestled among beautiful vistas of Colorado’s most scenic byways, you can almost hear the bell of this historic schoolhouse calling children to a new day of learning. Today, visitors from across the country and around the world are called to a new purpose of exploration, adventure, relaxation and self reflection.

Built in 1914, The Old School Lodge in Montrose, Colorado, was operated as a public school until 1986. Today, the renovated lodge located on 2.3 acres, is home to the ultimate vacation destination. The schoolhouse themed home features ten large bedrooms, eight with full baths, and one master suite with two rooms and a shared bath. The lodge features 12-foot ceilings and hardwood floors throughout, with easy access to laundry and a picnic area.

Step into the spacious great room, featuring a gas fireplace and wet bar. The new and fully equipped commercial kitchen provides everything necessary to meet any culinary challenge. The dining area is arranged for comfort, but can be adapted to accommodate family gatherings, retreats or business events. The original boys and girls bathrooms have been remodeled for visitors and guests.

FREE high-speed Wi-Fi and flat screen televisions are available in every room, but nothing is more captivating than what’s waiting for you outside the door. The Old School Lodge is located in the scenic Uncompahgre River Valley. Discover the beauty and natural wonders of Black Canyon National Park, Grand Mesa, the San Juan Mountains and the Uncompahgre Plateau.

Fun and adventure abound every season. Take in the view or hit the trail. Go sightseeing, white water rafting, rock climbing, fly fishing, hunting, golfing, boating, hiking, biking, skiing or snowboarding. Enjoy shopping, a guided Jeep tour or refine your photography skills in nature.

Old School Lodge is the best!

A large group of women hikers gathered and this was our base. We loved the facility with it’s comfortable beds, private rooms, industrial kitchen, and deep shaded porches. We highly recommend this property which was clean and is managed by a very responsive property manager

Senior golfers annual tournament

The Old School House provided the perfect venue for our group of golf friends. Everyone had their own private bedroom and bath. The common area was a generous space for all to relax and share meals without feeling crowded. And the historic ambience was an added bonus. What a gem in Montrose.

We 12 golfers had a great time at the Old Schoolhouse. The facility was just right for us. We were a little worried about no air conditioning but with the ceiling fans it was cool. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is planning a get together in Montrose.

Exceptional property for large groups.

This rental worked well for our group which was mostly 4 wheel drive enthusiasts. Trails as close as 20 minutes from the house on the plateau west of HWY 550. Silverton is about an hour’s drive. Plenty of parking for tow rigs and trailers on the property. Only downfall no AC, but we brought along a box fan to put in the window at night.....worked well with the ceiling fan. It actually wasn’t bad during the day as long as windows and shades were closed early. With 90+ degrees during the day and coming from a person who doesn’t do heat well, it was surprisingly comfortable/tolerable without AC.

Beautifully updated school house honoring its history. Very well maintained.

Our party of 18 enjoyed our motorcycle Rocky Mountain adventure. We explored every day and returned to the school house for dinner and enjoyed recalling our daily rides on the front porch and back deck. I would recommend this rental to any large group.

60th Anniversary Party

We rented the school for our parent's 60th wedding anniversary. It was perfect for us to stay in and also host the party. My entire family attended the Uncompahgre School as children, so it was also a fun school reunion. We had around 65 guests at the anniversary party, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The old school is very nicely renovated. It had everything we needed. I would highly recommend it.

Family Reunion

A unique well planned restoration. The Old School Lodge was everything our group expected, the spacious bed room/baths, furnished kitchen and huge dining/lounge area gave everyone space to lounge. The Old School Lodge is located in the center of SW Colorado, so much to see. Motorcycle Trip

As a group of old friends and motorcycle enthusiasts, we select a destination each year for a week long bike trip. This year we stayed in Montrose at the Old Schoolhouse. We had a great trip and found the Schoolhouse to be a great base location. Every family had a large bedroom with a private bath and the greatroom was perfect for meals and private conversations. The favorite gathering spot was the large front porch which hosted numerous sessions each morning and evening. Thanks for making this a memorable trip !

Delightful

I spent several wonderful months in the school house while my house was being rebuilt. The high ceilings, big windows, fireplace and pristine wooden floors make it a very special space. It is very well furnished and maintained, and the owners are delightful and easy to work with. I would very much recommend this place to anyone, it's both cozy for couples and accommodating of large groups, plus the kitchen is very well organized and equipped and can service a crowd easily. Loved my stay there!

Family Reunion

Our stay at the Old School Lodge was much more that we expected. The new and fully furnished kitchen was a real blessing. The bedrooms with individual bathrooms were wonderful for the privacy and added to the ability to make the whole family happy. Eight year children to eighty year old grandparents all had plenty of room and privacy to make our stay wonderful in every way.

Beautiful!

We stayed at the Old School Lodge for our son's graduation with our friends and family. It is beautiful, spacious, relaxing place and beds are super comfortable many of our friends and family members said they slept better at the lodge than at their own homes! And we loved the high ceilings it just made our stay with several people all the more comfortable. It felt like we were at retreat! Thank you!!!!
