beautiful beach front location

We spent a week on the top of a dune overlooking Lake Michigan in this beautiful home. It was spotlessly clean, and the hosts were very helpful and welcoming. The location is simply amazing - could not be better. We renewed for the same time next year by our second day. can't wait to go back!!!

House has a wonderful view! House is old, but clean. My husband is an electrician and had some wiring concerns. The state park is beautiful, but town is small and kind of run down. I don’t know if I would have spent the money had I known all this.

Wonderful Location and View!!

We absolutely loved our stay here. The views were incredible and it was great to see the Chicago skyline at sunset. Susan was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. You cannot beat the easy access to the beach and close proximity to restaurants / activities. We had a blast and really enjoyed the location of the house! Our only feedback for improvement was the house was fairly dated and many items were well loved. Many of the outdoor chairs were broken or looking like they were pretty close to broken and the beds were not very comfy. The AC unit in the loft didn't seem to work either. If these items were fixed, we wouldn't hesitate to give our experience and the rental a 10 out of 5 stars instead of 4 out of 5 :)

Lake Bliss

Lovely beach house setting with a great perch overlooking the lake. When we arrived the lake sounded like an ocean and when we left it had the subtle ripple of a reservoir. The sunsets, moonrises and moon sets were spectacular. Susan was a great communicator and very welcoming. A great destination to take in nature and unwind. I would most definitely book it again.

This house can be described with two words that say it all - amazing views. Other than that there is a fully equipped kitchen inside, wood burning stove… and everything you need for a great vacation.

Perfect Indiana Dunes holiday get-away!

Our family grew up in & love the Indiana Dunes area! We spent a long Thanksgiving weekend enjoying the charm of the cottage, taking long walks on the beach, playing games, cooking / baking & watching the everchanging beauty of Lake Michigan (including stunning sunrises & sunsets with Chicago on the horizon)! Susan & Erika are great hosts! We will definitely be back to enjoy a summertime stay and hope to make our visits a summer and winter family tradition. If you are looking for a laid-back, true Indiana Dunes beachfront experience this is it!

We enjoyed the location on the beach even in the Fall. The house may need some cosmetic updates but it was very clean. We were a group of 8 ladies. I am not sure if 10 ladies would have been as comfortable. Only one shower.

Location location location

You cannot beat the deck looking out directly to and the beach access to Lake Michigan. It was very clean but worn and dated. Floors squeak bad for people below which is a problem for considerate people who get up a lot in the middle of the night. Towels need to be triaged.

Great park access

We enjoyed a few days over the new year. Lots of space for our family of 5 to spread out, fantastic huge wood dining table to play games, put together puzzles. A little chilly but Ericka very kindly delivered some wood to use in the wood burning stove, which heated things up nicely and provided a really nice atmosphere!! very close to both IN dunes national park and IN dunes state park.

Great escape from the city

Host was very friendly and made the check-in process quite easy. The property itself has a wonderful view of Lake Michigan and on a clear day, you can see the skyline of Chicago in the far distance. The house has a log-cabin feel on the inside, great for a get-away for a group of friends or family. Everything was in working order as well. As a FYI, we were not aware but has nothing to do with the property, most of the beaches when we were there were washed away so there is generally only a walking path on the beach but you can walk that down to the main beach in Porter which is fairly close.

Location, location, location!

Best views on Southern Lake MI. Deck overlooks beach and lake. Can see Chicago skyline in distance most of time. Beautiful vegetation. If you are there for the lake, this is the place. Midwestern Riviera setting.

The house was comfortable and access to the lake and lake view were good. The only unexpected inconvenience was the downhill access from the parking spaces to the house itself. It make loading and unloading the car (on an incline) an extra effort.

Even better than the pictures

Our 5-person family did a last-minute vacation weekend rental and spotted this one with delight. It was everything the pictures and description promised. Stunning views across the endless Lake Michigan vista; real sandy sand let the kids spend whole afternoons building giant sandcastles; the great space in the center of the house combined a sense of family yet flexibility in one lovely setting, the deck was large and open and gorgeous. And then there were great old books in the bookshelves, board games in the cupboard, and even croquet in the closet. It was perfect. But the best part was either sitting in the corner nook with windows on three sides or falling asleep to the sound of the surf just outside the window. The perfect vacation getaway.

Family Gathering for 10 on the Lake!

Can't say enough awesome things about this rental! Located just steps from beach, the beautiful bay windows and spacious deck allow for unbelievable views of Lake Michigan with the city of Chicago visible on the horizon. Three individual rooms, with a loft (for the kids!), provide enough separation for large groups when needed. The living room flows right into the dining area, with an additional seating area near an old wood stove. Lots of space for everyone in our group of 10, and even more when you consider the attached deck. The deck has a table and bench seating along the perimeter, with two options for grilling (charcoal or gas grill). We bought all the food we needed at a grocery store just a handful of miles down the road and ate in for the majority of our stay. A full kitchen with just about everything you need to prepare meals (pots, pans, dishes, silverwear, etc.), including a gas stove, a full sized refrigerator/freezer, as well as a microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, and toaster. We unplugged while we were here, but there is WiFi available if needed. Lots of games, books, puzzles, and decks of cards were provided, which we used every day. The house was warm, even on one of the chillier days we were there. However, there are individual heaters/A/C units in each room, including the loft. The loft has several beds, with huge windows looking out over the lake, and a large curtain that separates it from the rest of the house for privacy. Walks on the beach were a joy. We say nary a handful of people, spending most of our time relaxing at the edge of the lake on provided chairs. While we didn't use the kayak's and other watercraft, there were a few on hand to use. We stayed over a course of 4 days and wish we were still there. There's nothing better than falling asleep to the sounds of soft waves hitting the shore. A storm came through on one of the days, and provided us with the most fantastic light show. Susan, her sister, and everyone else on hand servicing the property were extremely helpful and kind. Just what we were looking for!

Private, quiet, and gorgeous views gave us the respite we needed from our hectic city lives. Although we had no one that needed access considerations, the “no stairs” flat entry was great. If someone was in a walker or wheelchair, this would accommodate! Stairs to the beach are steep but doable for others. Front room, including dining, has full window panoramic views....so whatever the weather, you still feel part of the lake! Kitchen had amenities needed... bring paper towels though. We used the fire stove in front room 3 evenings and one morning! We purchased wood in Chesterton. We never turned on the tv and We plan to return!

Amazing property right next to Lake Michigan

It was more than perfect place to spend time with your loved ones especially when you meeting some of your old mates after 8-9 years. It was kind of a reunion and this place was the perfect treat. Our host Susan was really nice and very well coming. We also meet her sister who stays next to the house. She didn't took much time in going through the house and answered our questions to detail. The house is located right next to Lake Michigan and provided a breathtaking view of the Chicago city. You can see the silver lining over the city as the sun starts to get down. We took the stairs to get down to the beach when the sun also starts to set in with little clouds. It was a divine experience walking next to the beach onto the white sand across the beautiful beach houses. One can also walk up to the Indiana Sand Dunes Park. Susan mentioned not to light the main fireplace in the common area. There is another wood pit that can be used. The house was quiet warm so we didn't feel any need to light the fireplace inside. This house has comfortable three bedrooms with queen beds plus upper loft having three more beds overlooking the lake. The bonfire was situated between two houses to contain the effect of stronger winds. We gathered around the bonfire with our glasses of wine and chatted all night while gazing at the stars visible so clearly. The wind was little on the strong side on the front deck where the charcoal pit and gas grill were located. We were expecting this because of the location next to the lake. Grill was well cleaned. The Kitchen was well equipped with utensils and dishes. The house was overall clean. Only problem was the door lock not working for the bathroom with no shower. Hope Susan will fix that soon after reading this review. This house can accommodate 9 people easily. We don't have to worry about the check out time as Susan was quiet relaxed on it. Also one needs to pay $25 extra per night for each extra guest over 8. Overall it is one of the best places we have been too. We will visit this place in the future during summer time. We had built a lot of beautiful memories. I hope someone visiting will have a great time. Nobody will bother you during your stay. So enjoy your time. Good Luck!

Thank you for leaving a review and mentioning many of the highlights that make duneland rentals here in Northwest Indiana a lovely place to visit - even in chilly November. You are right the sunsets over Lake Michigan with the Chicago skyline in the distance are incredible. And, I'm so glad you got to enjoy a lovely walk on the beach and the bonfire pit in the yard. We are pleased you found the rooms comfortable and clean and the kitchen well equipped. Thank you for letting us know about the powder room door lock not working. We have had it fixed. It was a pleasure having you and your mates stay in our beach house and we hope you can come back and enjoy some of the other things that make renting a cottage in the Indiana dunes special like kayaking on the lake or cross-country skiing on the nearby trails. An Awesome Week on the Hoosier Riviera

The location relative to the beach and lake are spectacular. Nothing better anywhere. The lodging is quaint, comfortable, "beachy". The owners are very accommodating and helpful. Plenty of room for 5-6 adults, plus a couple of kids. We hope we can go back again next year.
