My husband summed up this cottage perfectly “if you can’t decompress here, you can’t decompress anywhere”. The town is filled with such nice people. You have to eat at The Glenwood. Lake Michigan in your backyard! We will definitely be back next year for my birthday. Thank you Jane for a wonderful stay!
I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We would be delighted to see you again. There is nothing we like better than to see our guests return. We always give our guests one month from check out to reserve the same time for next year before we release those dates back to VRBO. Let me know if I can reserve your time for you for next summer. We would not ask for any downpayment until January. To be honest, most of our summer is filled with returning families and it makes us so happy to see them year after year.
I really appreciate your kind words. We take pride in giving our guests the best possible vacation and it is always so nice to know that our guests had a good time. Thank you.
Great getaway cottage in Onekama!
The Fish cottage was the perfect getaway for our family! It's location couldn't have been better! The cottage has a perfect view of Portage Lake, and is in between two public access spots to the lake, one of which has a very nice dock to leave all your beach stuff on, including your chair to read a book! We found 3 great access locations to Lake Michigan that was in walking distance, although one day we chose to drive to the one closest to the Point so we could bring firewood, food, chairs, etc. The beach on Lake Michigan had fire rings, so definitely plan to do an evening at the beach to watch the sunset and roast marshmallows! We also went to Portage Point Inn at some point every day to buy ice cream and sit on their lovely deck! The Inn redid their pool, and you can purchase a day pass if you want to have one day of just hanging at a pool....
The cottage itself is cute, clean and has enough room to spread out. We appreciated the Wifi connection as in the evenings we all seemed to be busy on our computers downloading videos and photos of the day to social media! The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. We honestly never turned the TV on, but there appeared to be some sort of cable....we were busy doing other things with the family! There is a good collection of books to read if you forgot one, including kids books!
Onekama is a little town, but it does have some good restaurants and shops. It is also not far from a variety of other nice tourist-y towns in Michigan if you are destined to explore! The cottage has great booklets to look through to give you ideas on what to do in the area, as well as a guest book that you can read through to see what others have enjoyed doing!
We highly recommend this cottage and Onekama. If you just want to relax and chill, this is the perfect place to unwind! Long walks, putting your toes in the sand and playing in the waves on Lake Michigan are good for the soul!
We made our reservation for next year and can't wait to go back....it really was one of our best family vacations ever!
Thank you so much for your kind review. It was a delight to have you as our guests and we look forward to seeing you next summer.
Great location and view
Nice lake view from the porch, very short walk to the cafe at the Inn, which serves Moomers ice cream! Enjoyed our stay
Great place for making memories!
This was our 5th year renting from the Fish's! They are the most wonderful people and they always respond to any need or request we have. The place is fabulous! It's close to everything we want to do. Each year the cottage has something new in it. We can't say enough wonderful things about the cottage and the Fish's.
Thank you so much for your kind review. There is nothing we love more than seeing our families return year after year. It is always a delight to see you and your boys. Enjoy the rest of your summer and see you next year!
Great little cottage, so peaceful and quiet.
We loved our time here. Took daily walks down the street to the dog friendly beach. It was quiet, the street didn't have much traffic so it was safe. Steve and Jane were readily available for questions. The cottage had plenty of room, we never felt crowded. I love the tall kitchen counters!
Not very clean, Very small bath room and crabby neighbors.
Place was not very clean. The bathroom is very small. You can't even sit on the throne in a normal manner. Neighbors had an issue with us using the PUBLIC Access area. We were told it was strictly a launch. Also folks did not like the fact that I tied my small little wave runner out in the water about 5' deep and 75 yards out.
I am sorry that our cottage did not meet your needs. We fill up every season and have primarily returning families without any complaints about the cottage or the community. I cannot control the behavior of my neighbors, however, I can say that we have never had any complaints about them before. In addition, when you stated that you would be bringing your wave runner, I offered a PWC tie up behind my own house which you did not use. As far as the cleanliness of our cottage, we are booked solid every summer and it has never been an issue. I have spoken to our cleaning service to ensure that they continue to be thorough and have refunded your cleaning fee. I will admit that the size of the bathroom is not what you would find in a chain hotel, but this is a summer cottage and provides a woodsy charm and a full kitchen for a price and in a location that you will not find at a hotel. Finally, I provide every one of our guests my personal cell phone number. If you had any issues during your stay, all you needed to do was let me know. I would have immediately sent over my cleaning service or even come to clean it myself. I also would have once again offered the area behind my house and our PWC tie up for your wave runner. My guests contact me all the time for recommendations, information about area attractions, or even directions. I always answer my phone and take pride in providing the best stay possible to our guests. I cannot correct an issue if I am not make aware of it.
