Wonderful Condo, Fabulous Swimming Lagoons, Terrific Location
We had a wonderful stay at this condo. Furnishings are lovely and comfortable, condo is fully stocked in kitchens and baths and is very clean. Owner/manager is on site and is very responsive and helpful. It is a short walk to the ABC store where you can find almost anything you need and several places to eat or a short drive to Costco and other stores and restaurants. Breakfast at the Kapolei golf course is great.
I walked down to the beach lagoons every morning. The local seniors were at lagoon 4 almost every day playing their ukeleles. We also drove down to the lagoons where there are 5 or 6 different public access parking areas. This made it easy to take chairs and snacks to the beach so we could swim and then sit under a shade tree and stay for awhile.
We were at the condo pool almost every afternoon. It is clean, a good temperature and is not heavily used at all.
I will definitely be coming back again. This is the perfect Hawaii spot with a lovely condo, wonderful swimming lagoons, great pool, beautiful ocean views and sunsets, morning lattes at the Marriott and evening happy hour at the Four Seasons. Life is Good Here.
Will not stay at this unit again.
Listed are the events that happened while I was at this unit from Jun 30 to Sep 8 2018. Draw your own conclusions
1. First night at the condo:
a. The washer spilled all the water onto the carpet floor during its spin cycle around 12 PM at night. Had to mop up all the water off the floor between 12 midnight and 1am. The next day a repair man came to install a fan to dry the carpet. Fan ran for 2 days and one night to dry the floor. Took 4 days before repairmen came to fix the washer.
b. Five vertical blinds fell of its track when the blinds were opened.
c. Free standing light fixture could not be turned on. Light switch just fell off its mount.
d. One ceiling fixture did not come on. The lamp was burnt.
e. The ice maker was not working.
2. Second day: Noticed the refrigerator was not cold enough. Notified the owner and he arranged for the repairman to come the next day to repair the refrigerator. Two days later the repairman came again to fix the ice maker. Refrigerator still was not cold enough and we told the repairman but he said it was ok. We placed ice from the ice maker into the refrigerator section hoping to attain the normal refrigerator temperature but the temperature was still too warm (58 degrees). When the ice maker broke again, we had to buy ice to place in the refrigerator section. Repair man never came back to fix the ice maker again.
3. On the 69th day at the condo, the entire freezer/refrigerator unit failed. Told the owner we were leaving 5 day earlier than scheduled because the freezer/refrigerator totally failed and to avoid getting food poisoning.
4. Cost of Spoiled food was never reimbursed.
a. Working for a fair and reasonable reimbursement amount was like dealing with an ugly American from the past in the land of Aloha. Never was able to work out a fair and reasonable reimbursement from the owner.
b. Was offered only one choice under the condition of “take it or leave it” meaning take what was offered or end up getting reimbursed less because the nightly rental rate would be increase approximately 18%. Was told there will be no further responses to my messages.
5. Requested a copy of the electric bills to validate charges for electric overage but request was ignored.
A. Stayed at 2 other similar condos in this same complex, 1 in 2016 and the other in 2017 and those 2 condos did not have any issues like those listed above. We enjoyed it soo much at those 2 condos that we didn't want to leave.
This is my response to the Takako Hee review:
I have had many happy satisfied and returning guests over the years until I had the misfortune to rent to Takako Hee.
First, she was not the person who occupied the unit. I suspect she was using the unit to throw parties to people from Japan and the persons occupying the unit were a husband and wife cook and clean up team from Japan. A neighbor told me a different car was parked in her alloted stall each week and she gave numerous parties.
Second. She had so much garbage that she used a neighbor's trash can which resulted in a terrible fish smell.
Third, she lied about having a wonderful time last year. In fact she was asked to leave early and gave that condo a very bad review.
Fourth I reduced her rental agreement by 11 days costing me $1356.00 and saving her the same amount and was rewarded by complaints to VRBO and an email demand to me to immediately refund money not due at that time.
Fifth, I suspect that she overloaded the refrigerator with fish and it broke. When a repair man inspected the refrig, he said there was nothing wrong. But it broke a week or 2 later. I had to replace the refrigerator at a cost of several thousand dollars.
Sixth. There were also problems with machines in the condo she rented last year. In that case, a dish washer broke (i suspect from over use resulting from her many parties)
She complained about a light fixture that did not work. That required that she screw in a light bulb, but that was apparentely too much work.
Seventh. She complained that a floor lamp was broken. In fact, her people broke it because they did not understand that a switch on the wall had to be turned on in order to make the lamp work. I replaced the lamp the next day at no cost to her.
Eighth, she said she would not return to this unit. In fact, she earlier asked me to commit to rent to her the next year and wanted me to pay for toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies. I did not accept her for the next year for the reasons above stated.
Ninth, all money resulting from the shortening of the lease was refunded to her.
Tenth, she is correct that she will not come back to this unit. She will never be allowed to come back to his unit.
Eleventh, I feel very sorry to who ever is unfortunate to rent to her again. I believe he/she can expect many unreasonable demands, and expensive broken machines resulting from misuse.
I stayed at Herb's condo for a month in April-May and it was great. The condo itself was very lovely, with a great view. Herb was very helpful as well. The whole place was extremely comfortable and I felt very much at home. The community pool/bbq was beautiful and very close. I enjoyed just sitting on the lanai and sipping my coffee in the morning, very very relaxing. There are beautiful lagoons within a short walk, even shorter drive. There are also restaurants and shops within a stones throw. Traffic in and out town was not as bad as I thought it would be, you are literally the first development right off of the highway making commuting quite simple. Everything is very accessible from this location, BUT you feel like you are truly away from everything staying here. So if you want a quieter more relaxing stay, than say in Waikiki, this is the place for you! I can't say enough about this place and what a wonderful time I had on the island!
The location and amenities were excellent. Weather was perfect for winter escape from frozen north of USA. Overall wonderful stay and hope to be back sometimes soon!!
This is our second time staying in Kai Lani and it is the perfect location to stay in O’ahu. It is dry while it might be raining everywhere else and you are centrally located on the island. We enjoyed sitting by the oceanfront taking pictures and just enjoying the numerous humpback whales, the feeding dolphins and the beautiful sea turtles. The condo was awesome, with a great view of the ocean. We often sat on the Lani enjoying a morning coffee and appreciate that gorgeous view. Being essentially a two master bedroom house, we were able to offer privacy to my son and his fiancée when they joined us. It is well equipped including all appliances and a good variety of spices, kitchen tools and dishes. There were outdoor chairs we could bring to the rock front. We didn’t need for anything except for maybe a cooler. The owner was awesome in meeting us at the project gate to provide us with the gate card and information on accessing the condo. It was very late when our flight arrived and we were very grateful that he did that for us. I would absolutely not hesitate in booking this unit again. Mahalo.
