We are Ilona and Benno, the founders of Pandanus Lodge & Retreats.
Our journey began with a simple question: What do people really need to feel well again?
After many years of working in movement, coaching, and personal development, we realized that most people are constantly âonâ â always busy, always connected, but often disconnected from themselves.
Pandanus was created as a space to change that.
Ilona is a highly experienced Pilates teacher with decades of international training and teaching. Movement has always been her language to help people reconnect with their bodies and find balance again.
Benno brings a background in business, structure, and creating meaningful experiences â with a deep passion for nature and simplicity.
Together, we built Pandanus not as a hotel, but as a place we would want to stay in ourselves.
A place where you can slow down.
A place where you can breathe.
A place where you can simply be.
We live what we share here â a lifestyle focused on movement, plant-based nutrition, and a conscious way of living.
Our goal is not to offer luxury in the traditional sense, but something much more valuable:
space, calm, and a feeling of coming back to yourself.

At the same time, we are not directly in the busy center.
This means you can explore everything â and still return to a place that feels calm, quiet, and deeply connected to nature.
When we first arrived here, we immediately felt something special.
The air is fresh, the surroundings are green all year round, and the energy is different. You wake up to birds instead of traffic, and at night, you hear the sounds of the jungle.
Itâs a place where time slows down naturally.
We fell in love with this contrast:
being close to everything, yet feeling far away from it all.
The local community is warm and welcoming, and the region offers a beautiful mix of nature, culture, and authentic Costa Rican life.
For us, this location represents exactly what we want to share with our guests:
