House and property were good. Very nice beach views and nice beach. Want to note for others that the living room ceiling ceiling fan is low. People who are 6â 4â or taller might bump their heads on the ceiling fan. Other reviews also noted that the property felt private, but it didnât really feel super private to us - there are lots of close neighbors and youâll see neighbors in their yards and hanging out on their beachfront. This was not a problem, just a note if you donât want to be around others during your vacation. Lastly, the internet modem/router needs to be updated, and it was hard to stream entertainment on our laptop.
This little spot in Shell Lake is so perfect. The beach is unbelievably clean and Shell Lake water is the clearest water. Mindyâs place is so conveniently placed on the bike trail to jump on the bike trail to head the short walk into town to get ice cream, dinner or play at the park at the public beach (we have two littles). We had dinner in the gazebo every night just because it was cute. The beds were comfy. The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner at home every night. Overall 5/5 stay. You canât beat the beach property she has. That was the winning detail.
We stayed for 6 nights and it was easily the most relaxing trip weâve ever taken. The screened-in gazebo had perfect lighting that we used to work on puzzles long into the night. The dock has a lovely table that we sat at to watch the sunset, as well as a comfortable bench where we relaxed while watching the moon cross across the night sky. The private beach has chairs that were great for reading (with beach naps in between chapters, of course) or watching the boats go by with a cocktail in hand. We love birds, and spotted many different types beyond what you would expect. And I mean come on, hearing distant loon calls into the night while working on a puzzle and watching the moon set? Thatâs the definition of my Happy Place. I wish the shower and bedroom were a tad bit bigger, but totally not a big deal.
Also, I cannot emphasize enough how ideal this area is. A short walk (5-10 min) into town on a nice paved pathway will get you to the main street with multiple options for food and drink. The daily specials at The Laughing Goat were a particular favorite of ours. Then just a few minutes drive to Spooner has Northwind Book & Fiberâthe most magical store Iâve ever enteredâwith an excellently curated selection of yarn, books, games, puzzles, you name it. On the same street is a bakery with $1 doughnuts, a brewery, and a great plant store, among other nice shops.
This place is so special. We did *not* want to leave, but are comforted in knowing that we will be back!!
The cabin was great! Only disappointment was the low lake level and inability to really fish from the dock. Perhaps allow boat rental for a couple hours?
Peaceful time right on the lake shore. I enjoyed hearing the sounds of the seagulls and waves through the windows.
Short walking distance to the park, a coffee shop, and restaurant.
It was a wonderful week at a Great Lake! Many friends and great memories in Shell Lake and great weather too! Itâs always a plus to be in Shell Lake and by the lake!
Wonderful place to stay. The owner went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The cabin is well stocked with all the essentials and very clean. The lake view was amazing! Highly recommend.
I needed a few days to myself and this was the perfect spot to gather some peace. It had everything I need, was incredibly clean and cozy, and I canât wait to go back!
Nice little place, like a tiny house, it was clean. Clean sandy beach with a long dock and clear water. Property owners were helpful. Lots of fire wood. It is in a fairly crowded little neighborhood, but peaceful.
Shell Lake has been our family destination for over 60 years! It has been our dream to one day own a cabin, and be able to share it with others so they can make memories and have a similar experience to what we have had growing up. We previously rented cabins, as well as stayed at the public campground. This property is family owned, with our family staying in the main house for a large part of the summer, and periodically throughout the school year (though it could be made available to others if the space is needed).
Sixty years ago my grandfather packed up my grandmother and their 4 children to drive north until they found something they loved. When they pulled into town they found a sign for Sandy Beach Resort. That's when he decided that this would be the place. When Sandy Beach Resort came up for sale, he wasn't sure how he could manage a resort in Wisconsin, and run his farm in Iowa. My dad has still carried his dream of one day owning a place on Shell Lake, and found it to be reality this past July. Now not only do we have a place to call home, but we can also share the additional cabin with other families so that they can enjoy it too! The previous owners had searched northwest Wisconsin for a few years to find the perfect vacation home, and this was it. When they decided to sell they wanted someone here who would love it as much as they have. And we do!
We purchased this property fully furnished and the previous owners had quite the eye for detail! The beautiful sand castle picture and sea shell/sand dollars/fishing theme definitely reminds you that you are on vacation. It was decorated simply, yet beautifully! Unique pieces perfectly placed throughout. The 12 foot screened in gazebo is lined with white icicle lights for late night board games while the children sleep. Wireless Internet is available should you choose to tap into it, or use this as a getaway and chance to unplug from the rest of the world. My husband has restored the bench next to the cabin so everyone can relax and enjoy the view. The view from the living room is also the view from the master bedroom, so you can roll over and wake up to the sun rising over the lake. Generally you can see 10-12 feet down into the lake, so if you go fish on a rock pile, you can watch the fish and feel them nibbling on your line! That was one highlight when I was little. Our beach is quite shallow, so you can allow your little ones to play in the water in front of you without fear of them getting too deep. To us, this is the perfect home away from home!
