We loved staying at Maggieâs farm. Jackie and mark were wonderful hosts. The only disappointment was that while itâs called Maggieâs Farm- there really is no farm.
Maggieâs Farm couldnât have been more perfect for our family. Our son fished with my husband a few times a day and loved it. Mark and Jackie gave us fantastic directions for beautiful local hikes. My husband and I loved having coffee my their babbling brooke. The cabin was extremely clean , comfortable, and perfectly stocked. They really did think of everything. We canât wait to come back!
We enjoyed eating outside on the deck listening the relaxing sounds of the creek. Our daughter caught fireflies at dusk and played in the creek every day.
The cabin is comfortable and clean in a great location for exploring nearby waterfalls and Pisgah national forest.
This was a perfect location to be out of town and close to Pisgah Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The farm is charming, as are the proprietors. It was a perfect spot for our dog to happily run around. We will almost certainly be back.
Maggies Farm is a VERY clean and lovely property that is nestled in the mountains. The rushing from the bubbling creek provided for early morning relaxation while coffee sipping on the deck and we enjoyed watching deer feed in the field directly across the street.
My seven-year-old had a lot of fun playing in the creek and looking at the fish in the pond. The hosts were phenomenally hospitable and went above and beyond to provide our special needs son with the equipment he needed to make his stay better and more enjoyable.
We would definitely visit Maggieâs farm again.
Maggieâs cabin is a lovely place to stay. The cabin is so well stocked and has everything you need. Everything is so clean and comfortable. And most of all Mark and Jacquie are lovely hosts. They are so prompt and helpful and hospitable and helped us with anything we needed. They gave us recommendations about places to go and we had brought our dogs and Mark and Jacquie let us walk though their lovely farm.
We had a great time! We will definitely go back.
Our family spent 3 nights here in July and my only regret is not staying longer! The cabin was clean, comfortable, and spacious - perfect for our family of 5 (3 kids ages 9, 11, 14). Our kids loved the creek (tip: bring water shoes) and we had a great time exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway and many nearby waterfalls. During our down time we enjoyed some of the games they had at the cabin. The hosts were lovely and even gave us delicious fresh veggies from their garden! We would absolutely recommend this cabin and would love to return here ourselves!
Thanks to Jacquie and Mark, we had another wonderful stay in Balsam Grove. This was our first time to their property and we hope to make the trip more than once a year. They were the ultimate hosts, not only anticipating material needs, but also accommodating with suggestions for local hikes, waterfalls, and other entertainment around the farm. I like the hidden gem Balsam Grove is and intend to return for years with our children.
The cabin by the creek at Maggie's Farm was just the right fit for our family. Everything was spotless when we arrived. It was by far the cleanest and most well stocked cabin we've ever rented through Vrbo. We always spend time hiking on this trip, and you are within easy driving distance of several state & national parks. Mark & Jacquie are delightful people and were so quick to take care of any need that we had. We will be sure to look them up again when staying in the area. This cabin helped our family to make wonderful memories.
Maggieâs Farm is just amazing! Great summer getaway
The owners are super nice. They were very accommodating and great communication. They have really figured out how to be great host.
Pros:
- cleanliness
- kitchen stocked with everything you need
- beds were very comfortable
- plants around the house were just beautiful
- vegetable gardens everywhere ( we pick zucchini and cucumbers, so good)
- The creek kept the dog and kids busy for hours
- trout pond was amazing, kids loved it
- hiking everywhere around the area
Cons - none
We plan on coming back and spending more time at Maggieâs Farm in the future.
Little misleading, itâs not a cabin, itâs a trailer. It was nice and clean. The weather was rainy our entire trip and that made the grounds soggy. We made the best of it. Nice little getaway. You have to travel a good ways to get to anything. The lamb/sheep were a nice touch to the property. We loved petting them. Snow would have made the trip a lot better! đ
We enjoyed our stay at Balsam Grove. The cabin is spacious and clean. There is a little stream that flows next to the cabin. My teen boys enjoyed panning for gold with the pans provided by the owner. There is a trout fishing run on the property (fyi no catch and release and bring a very sharp filet knife if chose to keep). There is a river about 5 min down the road that we caught beautiful trout. There is a pasture across the street that is beautiful to look at in the morning with deer, turkey, and cows.
*the internet is touch and go. If very cloudy outside it shuts off. It forced my teens to find other activities which was a blessing in disguise.
Maggie's Farm is perfect for a remote mountain getaway to rest and relax. The cabin is wonderful, and the outdoor space was a huge playground for our grandkids. One highlight was the stocked pond where our grandkids caught several trout and bluegill. Besides fishing, our five year old granddaughter loved playing in the clear, cold creek, and our four year old grandson loved playing tee-ball in the large flat backyard. We also enjoyed roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and feeding the cows.
The house was very comfortable and had a well-stocked kitchen. There was a large pantry for storing any food items that you bring. There was plenty of room for the five of us. The heating and air conditioning worked well, as did the wi-fi.
The waterfalls in the area are beautiful. We drove to different ones each day, but the ones at Living Waters are exceptional without having to drive far.
Mark and Jacquie are amazing hosts. They are like friends and want you to have the best stay possible. They made sure that every need and request was met.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to stay again sometime.
We had family coming to NC to visit in Balsam Grove. This was the perfect location and the perfect home rental. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms was perfect for six adults. Thank you Mark and Jacquie!
Had a great girls vacation with my friends and our dogs. This cabin was the perfect size for the three of us, and it was in a great location for taking day trips to see different waterfalls. Jackie was very nice and let us extend our stay one more day since our Smokey Mountain outing was rained out the day before we were to leave. We loved our time there.
We had a great stay at Maggie's Farm. Mark, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. My son picked the house because he wanted to catch trout, and it did not disappoint! He caught fish on the pond and on the stream that runs on the property, as well as on the Davidson River which is 30 min. away. You have cell service in the house while on wi-fi, but there is no cell service outside of the house, which was nice for a change. We had a great meal in Brevard one night and grilled at the house on the second night. Grill works great. The road to get there is very curvy, so the 12 miles to get there from Brevard takes 30 minutes, so you want to prepare before you go. It is remote, and a wonderful place to unplug. Beautiful setting, well-stocked house, and a great host!
It was a great little property in a peaceful valley outside Brevard NC, about 30-40 minutes from town. The owners, who live on the farm, were very friendly and helpful and made the stay at one of their rental properties very comfortable. The property itself was clean and comfortably furnished. We took our dog with us and she absolutely loved the creek and the front yard. There was no cell service but they did provide internet which was helpful with staying connected. I highly recommend the property.
My family had the best time at Maggieâs Farm! Mark and Jacquie were the kindest hosts and made this a trip we will never forget. Everything went smoothly - from the checkin/out process, to having a super clean cabin that had everything we needed. I work as a retreat chef and was pleasantly surprised that our cabin had everything I needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal. While we stayed at the farm we checked out some hikes nearby (Living Waters, Courthouse Falls, Triple Falls, High Falls, and we walked the road of 140), and were amazed at the beauty in NC. While visiting DuPont State Park we checked out Brevard and enjoyed walking downtown. Mark and Jacquie also let my kids (3, 5, 7, almost 9) feed the cows across the street, and helped my kids learn to fish. My son caught his first fish and will remember it forever. We came as strangers but left feeling like we made lifelong friends. My kids are already asking when we will go back.
We loved our visit and the cabin met all of our needs. We knew if there was anything we needed we could just ask the hosts as they were extremely friendly and accommodating. Mark even facilitated a special visit with the cows for us. Easily caught trout for dinner too. Would definitely stay at the farm again.
We absolutely loved it. The family gives you everything you need and more. Peace and quiet and beautiful views. Waking up to a colorful indoor fire with cows/farm life off the front porch is enchanting. Having a local pond to fish in just adds even more value if you are unable to catch anything in the local rivers. Beautiful waterfalls and hiking is nearby.
Mark is originally from southern England and Jacquie Boston Massachusetts. We met in Central Florida while working in our careers there. We decided when it was time to retire we would move to our property in North Carolina and enjoy growing vegetables and gardening which we both enjoy. We call it Maggie's Farm after one of our cats. We have 3 friendly dogs, Wolfgang, Zeva and Violet, a cat named Mindy. We are growing an amazing variety of fruits and vegetables in the rich soil here.
Maggie's Farm is not just a place to stay, it is an amazing small farm with over 1000 feet of cold water creek on the property. You can fish in the creek for natural brown trout or fish in our stocked pond where we raise Rainbow Trout, Channel catfish and Blue Gill. You can put the patio chairs in the cold water creek and relax on a hot summer day. There are many quartz rocks in the creek too. The location of Maggie's Farm is fantastic and centrally located for most of anything you want to see or do in Western North Carolina and come home to a nice comfortable, clean home away from home. We are known for our comfortable beds and cleanliness.
The location is fantastic, a great base for anywhere you want to go or see in Western North Carolina. Maggie's Farm has onsite trout fishing and a cold water creek to play in. In season you can eat a meal fresh from the farm. Blackberries, blueberries, rhubarb, strawberries, squash, potatoes, zucchini, asparagus, apples, pears, etc. The farm house is all the way to the back of the property so you have all the privacy you want but if you need any help with anything, we are here. If you have an emergency, we are here to help if you need us. We are also very knowledgeable about the area and can give you recommendations.
