Aliya Watunu Hena - One-Bedroom Cabin in Tangalle
Cabin: Private, Calm & Intentionally Simple Tropical Living
The Cabin at Aliya Watunu Hena is a standalone, private hideaway designed for travelers who value peace, privacy, and connection to nature over size and excess. Set within the same lush tropical garden as the Main House, the Cabin offers a self-contained, quiet retreat â ideal for solo travelers, couples, or long-stay guests seeking simplicity done well. This is not a hotel room. Itâs a small tropical home, designed with purpose.
The Space
The Cabin features a comfortable sleeping area, a compact living zone, and its own private veranda facing the garden.
Like the rest of Aliya Watunu Hena, the Cabin is designed for natural airflow, not sealed, air-conditioned living. Large sliding doors combined with full-size breathable mosquito blinds allow continuous fresh air while keeping insects out.
Open the space, let the breeze move through, and slow down.
Bathroom â Open, Private, Tropical
The Cabin includes a large, fully walled, partially open-air bathroom, offering privacy with a direct connection to the outdoors.
The shower uses naturally ambient-temperature water, a common and appreciated local standard perfectly suited to the tropical climate. Guests often describe it as refreshing, cooling, and energizing, especially after a beach walk or warm day.
This is intentional tropical comfort â not a missing feature.
Designed for Essential Comfort
The Cabin offers everything needed for a relaxed stay, without unnecessary extras:
â Ceiling fan for gentle, energy-efficient cooling
â Fiber-optic broadband Wi-Fi â stable and suitable for remote work
â USB-A & USB-C charging points
â Filtered drinking water available in the kitchenette
â Complimentary Ayurvedic herbal toiletries, locally sourced and plastic-light
Every element is chosen to reduce environmental impact while maintaining quality.
Garden & Outdoor Living
The Cabin opens directly into the lush tropical garden, creating a natural extension of the living space. Perfect for:
â Quiet mornings with coffee and birdsong
â Reading, journaling, or working remotely
â Evenings spent outdoors in calm and privacy
Despite being close to the ocean, the property sits in a peaceful residential area with no traffic noise.
Location â Everything Walkable
Aliya Watunu Hena is perfectly positioned between Unakuruwa Beach and Paradise Beach, home to Ranlakshmi Beach Paradise and the well-known Walatha Seafood Restaurant. Silent Beach is just a 10â15 minute walk, with relaxed beach bars and cafĂ©s along the way.
No driving required. No crowds. Just the coastline steps away.
Ideal For
The Cabin is ideal for:
â Solo travelers and couples
â Long-stay guests and slow travelers
â Remote workers seeking calm, not coworking buzz
â Guests who value privacy, simplicity, and nature

Foire aux questions
Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous ĂȘtes reçu par Ladi
We are a Czech couple â Ladi and Mila â who first came to Sri Lanka in 2022. We came back in January 2024 with a simple plan: explore, rest, move around the south coast. One afternoon we drove through Unakuruwa, stopped at a tired village house on a lane between two beaches, and signed the deed before the trip was over.
Eight months later, Aliya Watunu Hena opened â not because we planned to run a guesthouse, but because friends and early guests kept asking if they could stay. Aliya Watunu Hena is not an investment project for us but a long-term commitment to this place and the people who find it.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
We chose Unakuruwa because it offers something rare on the south coast of Sri Lanka: space, authenticity, and balance. Itâs close enough to Tangalle downtown for restaurants, markets, and services but far enough to avoid crowds and noise. The beaches here are natural and peaceful, the sunsets are wide and dramatic, and daily life still feels genuinely local.
Unakuruwa allows you to experience tropical island life without being surrounded by resorts. Youâll see fishermen in the morning, hear birds instead of traffic, and feel the rhythm of a village rather than a tourist hub. For us, this balance between comfort and authenticity is exactly what makes this area special.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
In January 2024, we came back to Sri Lanka and drove through Unakuruwa â a quiet village near Tangalle, between two beaches and a lane of palms. We stopped at a tired house: sandy soil, trees leaning inward, no grand gestures. We signed the deed before the trip was over, and spent the next eight months rebuilding it for ourselves â not for yield, but for the home we wanted to live in.
We called it Aliya Watunu Hena: the old Sinhala name for this ground, meaning the place where the elephant once passed. It became somewhere to stay only because guests kept asking.
