Perfect for a quiet getaway

My partner and I stayed at the peaceful Island retreat for two nights. It was a perfect, secluded spot for a quiet island getaway. The house was well appointed and comfortable and communication with the host was seamless.

A bit hard to find the driveway when arriving late but love the secluded feel. There were so many mosquitoes surrounding the property which I thought was odd but overall still loved it.

A great place to stay! Nice area with so many places to go and adventure! A perfect place to come back to after a day of fun. The only disappointment was that there were dirty towels in the washer from the previous occupants. I'm sure that is not typical though.

Clean with a secluded view!

The host was super responsive even despite some communication errors due to the vrbo app. The house was very clean and exactly what we needed for the weekend. Loved that the cabin felt secluded, but that you could still see the water through the trees from the front deck. There was a brand new fridge and the kitchen is large! This is the perfect house for a family vacation or relaxing getaway for friends over a weekend. Thanks for letting us stay!

Quiet and peaceful

We loved the layout of the place. It was able to accommodate all of us nicely. Most of the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was a great size to cook in. They could benefit from updating the coffee maker and microwave. We were unfortunately there during a really bad mosquito time and my father was eaten alive. We came prepared with repellent, but it didn’t for him.

Beautiful setting…quiet and peaceful…neighbors not so much…marathon party…mosquitoes rampant… Issues with appliances and the idea that the space is advertised for six people with only a king and a set of twins. The blow-up bed was for one and there is a pack and play crib… Update info on island services as well.

Relaxing Private Cabin

We had a wonderful stay over the long weekend! The cabin is very comfortable and clean with lots of privacy! We loved catching glimpses of the sunsets through the trees and listening to the breeze. Very nice kitchen with lots of room to prepare a nice meal! The only downside is the lack of curtains in the bedrooms - especially in the kids/second room. Hard to sleep in or have your little ones get to sleep without any way to block the light! Otherwise, no complaints! Would definitely recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway!

Pleasant getaway

We had a comfortable stay here in this cozy cottage. The living space is well designed and spacious, and the beds are comfortable (1 of the twin beds is on the floor). It is like super comfy camping in a way though as you need to bring almost everything - salt/pepper, soap, garbage bags.. As the pre arrival info indicates, you will need to dispose of your garbage. The dump is on the way to the ferry but wasn’t open the day we left.

Just one hiccup!

Our stay was great as always, except the refrigerator that wasn't working well last year, which we were hoping would be replaced this year, was still there and didn't keep our food cold at all. We had to keep our food in a cooler for 5 days. Hoping there will be a new refrigerator next year!

Not for us

There is nothing wrong with this house, but it's just not for us. It's very secluded and feels very cabin like. The furniture inside feels dated even though the owner mentioned recently purchasing it. My biggest issue with the house is that there are zero blinds anywhere! So even though you are in the woods, there are still neighbors and it would be nice to get dressed without giving everyone a show or sleep in without tons of light pouring in the windows.

Lopez Island Vacation

The house was alright. It was big enough for our family of 5 and in a quiet location. However, we were quite disappointed with its cleanliness. The house has a pull-out couch which we opted to not use as it was disgustingly dirty; crackers, sand underneath the cushions - didn't look any deeper. The dishes in the kitchen also didn't look very clean. We decided to put the dishes we planned on using in the dishwasher before using them to make sure that they were washed. Would not rent it again!

A perfect getaway to rejuvenate

Have spent 35 years coming to Lopez, but have always stayed near the village. This was quite a change as it is on the south end and in the trees, but a welcome change. Solitude, peace and quiet is what you can expect when staying in this cozy cottage. Enjoy the sound of the wind and woodpeckers in the tall pines and cedar surrounding you, and a view of the bay through the trees below. Sleeping room for 4 with a clean and up-to-date kitchen and bathroom. Would have enjoyed using the bbq but was not maintained. Owner stated that is up to the guest to access, so this was no surprise and was expected. Property manager and owner will gladly assist if needed with anything at all. Highly recommended.

Quiet cabin in the woods

A well designed cabin in the woods - a doe and her 2 fawns visited daily. Nice in EVERY way except for a very heavy quilt on the bed, sheets had holes and bleach spots, dishwasher unusable due to missing wheel on rack. Stove needs replacing - one burner did not function and another was unreliable. The online listing mentioned a view of the water. We could barely see the water due to the trees, large and small -though the sunsets were spectacular. Curved driveway sloped to the right. After heavy rain our vehicle slid in the mud to a grass covered ditch from which we had to be pulled, We found this review very difficult to write. With considerable care, this would be an exceptional place to stay.

Little things count

We were disappointed with the overall lack of cleanliness of the house and deck area. BBQ grill is unusable due to rusted grates. Deck chairs caked with dirt and pine needles. Great deck to sit and enjoy if it was usable. We found towels in the dryer, which we folded for the cleaner. The coffee maker was barely usable. Showerhead caked with hard water crust, all of these problems are not expensive fixes, so for the cost of weekend we will look forore cleaner and usable places to stay when on Lopez Island.

Disappointed

The property is very dated. Tub backs up, dishwasher, stove and coffee maker don't work well. All of those things we could have lived with but it was dirty! I had to wash everything we used. Mouse dropping in drawers. Dried food stuck on dishes. It needs a good scrub. Not very welcoming. There's a bbq but no propane. Haul your own trash but no trash bags. Certainly not worth the cost and the cleaning fee is a rip off.

Quiet Sanctuary on Lopez Island

This is a nice house -- very quiet and secluded, with a family of deer living nearby that frequently grazed in the yard. The peek-a-boo view of Mud Bay through the trees is another calming feature. Even though the bathroom and bed linens were clean, the house itself needs some attention and could use a deep cleaning. Many of the kitchen utensils were greasy or covered with the residue of dishwasher detergent. The bathtub was very slow to drain and the light over the stove was burnt out. The TV remote didn't work because the batteries were badly corroded. The VCR and DVD player setup was almost impossible to use because of loose connectors for the cables. These are all minor things, though, and overall we really enjoyed our stay. Lopez Island is stunning!

Cozy Home

Overall we loved our stay at Penny's home. It was, as titled, a peaceful island retreat. The home was cozy, the kitchen was well stocked, and the view from deck was wonderful. The small beds in the small room were a little noisy but comfortable enough. The only real drawback for us was that we were unaware that we had to haul our own garbage with us when we left (or forfeit half the deposit, $100). Upon checkout day I came across this info while researching the checkout policy. This would not have been a problem except that the dump is only open 3 days a week, and not on the day we were checking out (Sat.). We ended up having to dig out our garbage (in flimsy plastic bags provided) which consisted of remains of 8 meals, crab shells, etc., and take it back to the mainland in our already cramped car. Very smelly. I would rather be charged a bit more up front (not $100) to not have to deal with the garbage. Otherwise, I would definitely stay here again but bring better garbage bags.

We work in the fields of Solar Energy, Property Management and Ecological Design. Taylor is a fine art painter based mostly in acrylics and mixed media visual art. Daniel manages rain tanks and gardens. Dan has a Landscape Contractor's License. Taylor is a Solar energy contractor. We are based in the Monterey area. We love to update the cabin and keep it fully stocked, safe and comfortable for our guests!

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

Our family has been a part of the Lopez Is community since the mid 90's when our good family friends moved up there full time. The property has since been handed from Mother's to Son's, and remains in the family. It is a very special little corner of the world. We have always loved visiting over the years. We especially enjoy day trips over to Friday Harbor and hiking Mt. Constitution, then making it all the way back by ferry at the end of the day.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

This cabin was built in the 90's, and as such, compared to many other properties in the area, it is much newer. The heaters work very well, the septic works very well, the water is very hot, and the place is very cozy! We are very attentive owners, and we also have an on-island property manager who lives very close by. We can personally take care of anything that may arise during your stay. In the past calendar years of 2022-23, we have added multiple sets of new sheets and towels, new cookware, a new french press, a new knife set, new pillows, new throw blankets, new solar powered exterior security lights and touch up interior painting. We came in April 24 with fresh towels, cleaning supplies etc and there is a new linen duvet. We hope you enjoy the peace, tranquility, solitude and beauty that the space offers!
