Great lake, lots of room
We had a great time here with cousins and grandma and grandpa. The lake was great, but the "beach" is a bit rocky so water shoes are a good idea. The kids spent hours and hours on the water in the kayaks and paddle boat and on the big float. The owner lives next door and was available to answer any questions. For the price, I would have expected some of the general maintenance to be a bit better - broken glass in the woodchips around the firepit, grill has seen better days, ect.
We were coming from Michigan and arrived an hour early for check-in because of the time change. Apparently the cottage is right near the line where the time changes.
Manage your expectations for the best experience
We recently stayed for five days with our three children and, overall, the experience was pretty good - but not great. The lake itself is very nice - clean (as lakes go), quiet and peaceful. We appreciated the use of the dock, swimming pad, kayaks and fire pit. The smaller house near the lake is very convenient for a quick lunch and storing towels and sunscreen. The main house is very spacious, with plenty of room to spread out.
We were disappointed that the boat was not available, which we found out the Monday before our Wednesday arrival. Shari did try very hard to fix the situation and continued to communicate about it, but the boat was beyond repair. She even brought us donuts one morning, which was very sweet. While it was out of her control, it was still disappointing as we had selected this house over another one due to boat availability.
Overall, the house could benefit from a thorough cleaning inside and out (lots of spider webs, dirty dishes on the deck, food debris down by the smaller house, etc), as well as a few updates. The oven, garbage disposal and shower all had kinks to work out, and it needs a new set of pots, pans, potholders and kitchen utensils. I would recommend bringing your own pots and pans if you intend to cook most meals there. You'll also want to be careful if you have small children as there are many breakable items on tables and shelves. There are no blinds in the master bedroom, so you're up with the sun.
Overall, we did enjoy our vacation. One day, we went to Pine Lake and rented a pontoon boat and we spent an evening in New Buffalo, MI. The kids liked the lake and spent a lot of time swimming and out on the floats we brought (recommend you bring your own as there were just noodles and one tube). We just didn't enjoy the house as much as we expected and so spent as much time as possible outside.
Shari was very responsive and helpful, and incredibly kind.
great lake house
Nice home with space for family members to spread out. Boat dock for small boats and owner allowed us to use kayaks and paddleboards, which was fun. Lake is clean, low traffic even on a holiday weekend (4th of July).
Fresh eggs from the chickens living on site were a bonus!
Not what I was hoping for.
Though the house was very comfortable and did have sleeping accommodations for 11, there was only one bathroom available for showering, as the first floor shower was requested that we not use as it had been recently regrouted. This was very difficult as we had anywhere from 7 or 8 adults staying at any given time. In addition, the owner is building another house on the property that is currently under construction. The owner is living in this building under construction. The two houses share the water supply. This again made it difficult to schedule our bathing and the use of hot water.
A was a bit disappointed in the that the house was dog friendly on the inside, yet they needed to be on lease at all times while outside. This eventually cut the visit my children with dogs short.
The chickens (21 with Roster) were a pleasant surprise.
Overall the house was nice, the lake was beautiful. It was just tough going with the number of adults that were in the house.
The owner offered their kayaks for a ride on the lake, and that was very enjoyable.
I rented this August with my family of 7 adults, 1 child , and 3 dogs.
Pros: The lake and beach are beautiful and my family really enjoyed it.
Cons: The beds seemed more like fulls than queen sized beds.
The front door didn't lock.
The downstairs shower handle was broken and you had to hold it up just to take a shower. We would run out of hot water if to many people took showers right after each other. The up stairs bathroom sink never worked. Had to brush our teeth downstairs. The fridge was so full of other people's old food we had to clean it out just to fit our own.
I would not rent here again. 🙁
