I arrived in New York on 6-22-25 I requested the check in information in which the host refused to give. She stated the cleaner hadn't showed up to clean the property so she gave me another address. Well this place had multiple stairs and was located on the 2nd floor which couldn't accommodate the group I was with. When I informed the host she gave me another address which was smaller with one bathroom. Smaller than the original one booked. After explaining that this wouldn't work the host insisted there was a power surge that prevented us from renting the original house. After having to find a hotel in New York last minute for 7 days and in communication with VRBO and the host I've yet to receive a refund for the property I've never stepped foot in nor have I had any communication with the host since that day.
Agree with Lakyra's review! Be careful if they try to contact you the day of to report something is wrong with the original property and want you to have this âalternativeâ location. If the original property is not up to par for renting, it shouldnât be advertised on VRBO. within three hours of our arrival time, the host called to report that the original location that we were renting was not available (something about a gas leak or outage) and that they would âgive us an alternative that is more premiumâ. Due to the nature of our trip (family passing/funeral for two days), it left us in a bad situation with little time to plan an alternative, where we were told by the manager that a âcancellation could take up to 14 days to get a refundâ. We had a two-day trip booked for 5. The manager was willing to send pictures of the location (appeared reasonable but the pictures were not accurate) but upon arrival, it was smaller, more cramped apartment (versus a house) along with other issues (i.e. parking on street; lots of stairs; ants; dysfunctional tvâs where the remotes were not fully functional; faulty/broken outlets; no twin beds; faulty lighting; only three towels in the entire apartment; helpful homeless lady across the street). Upon entering, I immediately sprayed for ants in the living room and later bathroom. The entire situation gave slumlord vibes on top of the feeling that it is false advertisement or a ploy to lock in for one location but be re-routed to another.
