à propos de cet hébergement
Little Oasis in Center of Missoula--Sustainable Arty 1930s House
Historic craftsman home in the heart of town, 1/2 mile to downtown (1 mile to Caras Park), local shops & dining. Enjoy our colorful, art-filled home w/vintage flair, natural fiber bedding & non-toxic mattresses, & fresh espresso beans crafted into your drink of choice. We are family-friendly coffee appreciators & hope you'll enjoy our cozy & sunny dining nook, big porch, front and back yards.
A quick shot from airport and to downtown.
Well-behaved dog-friendly; inquire first.
Host is a native Missoulian. Personal recommendations available.
Who will especially love our space? Guests who enjoy being bathed in color, who appreciate outdoor spaces and want to sit on the covered porch in the evening, families travelling with kids who don't want to pack every kid necessity, people who need to work while they travel, or who want to enjoy a low-traffic easy trip to and from the airport, guests who want to be close to downtown, but not deal with the noise of being in the middle of it, or people with daily fitness routines who can benefit from having free weights and a rowing machine available to them, home-cookers who appreciate efficiency (air fryer, Instapot, convection oven and induction stove make cooking a breeze!). Our space is also great for guests who are sensitive to chemicals--we use diluted bleach or Meyers for cleaning and always use free-and-clear detergents and only choose natural fibers for our bedding and linens. (And two of the four beds are made with exclusively natural materials as well.)
The space
Highlights- 2/4 bedrooms have pure latex & wool mattresses (BR 1 & 2), 2/4 bedrooms have dedicated work spaces (one full sized adjustable desk & adjustable office chair in BR 4, one small vanity/desk with non-adjustable chair in BR 3), BR 4 also has a workout area with free weights and Concept II erg. 2/4 bedrooms also have TVs (BR1 & BR4).
High-quality espresso machine with Ethiopian beans provided in the kitchen to keep you happily caffeinated. (Common drip coffee machine, tea and electric kettle also available.)
Living room: large LG TV connectable to streaming services, local art, expansive seating options with a 1930s mohair oversized chair, vintage loveseat, well-constructed long sofa with chaise, record player & Bluetooth speaker, board games, chess, HDMI connection, vintage wool rug, lamps for ambient lighting
Kitchen: lightening-fast induction range with convection oven, high-end espresso machine with the power to kick out amazing lattes and espresso with crema with supplied high-quality Ethiopian whole beans automatically ground on-demand with attached burr grinder, selection of teas, fast electric kettle, butcher-block countertops, small countertop dishwasher, Instapot, air fryer, Nutribullet blender, pour-over & french press coffee gear, sharp knives, cocktail-making supplies, cooking/baking essentials (pots, pans, measuring cups, flour, sugar, spices), fridge/freezer with plenty of storage space, microwave, toaster oven, on-demand ice maker, cloth napkins, recycling and compost bins in adjacent mudroom
Dining nook: Vintage MCM table with seating for four in a sunbathed nook, perfect for enjoying a meal or some morning reading
Bathroom: a narrow, small bathroom (an unfortunate aspect of a 1930s home) with an original clawfoot tub for long baths and a shower head, toilet with bidet sprayer
Bedroom 1: main floor room with King-sized all latex & wool natural mattress on wood frame, TV and storage cabinet, with window facing front porch
Bedroom 2: main floor room with Queen sized all latex & wool natural mattress on metal frame, with window view of the backyard (with blackout cellular blinds)
Bedroom 3: cozy upstairs room with CertiPur full/double sized bed, vanity/extra work space, sun-filled room with view overlooking backyard, electric fireplace
Bedroom 4: gigantic upstairs flex-use room with CertiPur queen sized bed, TV w/Roku, workout equipment, Concept II erg/rowing machine, extra electric fireplace, office height-adjustable desk and chair
Extra sleeping arrangements: Additional queen sized mattress can be supplied for the floor of Bedroom 4 upon request, smaller floor mat can be provided for kids as needed as well as a small pack and play for infants
Focus on sustainability & health: we avoid most products that are typical allergens or have high off-gassing; most materials we use are natural fiber, primary mattresses are petroleum-free, we use appropriately diluted bleach (vs Lysol and strong-smelling cleaning products) for sanitizing, free & clear detergents, & choose household products free of potentially problematic ingredients whenever possible. Soaps, shampoos and conditioners have limited ingredients. We recycle whenever possible, though in Montana, the options are limited (see check-out details for more specifics). We also do not accept cats due to the high number of people with cat allergies.
Amenities for infants/toddlers: gate for stairs, highchair, bibs, plates and cutlery, pack and play, floor mattress, toys, car seat, stroller etc. can be supplied with request**
Laundry facilities: washer and dryer, drying rack and delicates bag, allergen-free laundry detergent all available in basement area. Please be aware that basement has steep narrow steps and is unfinished and the laundry is shared with adjacent studio.
Exercise equipment: Concept II erg/rowing machine (computer for stats does not work, but the rower with resistance adjustment works great), free weight set from 5-25lb sets, yoga mat, exercise mat
Yard: front yard is not fenced, propane barbeque or charcoal BBQ and grill supplies provided upon request***, old but functional picnic table, back yard is mostly fenced but is not suitable for leaving a dog unattended given small openings
Front porch: large front porch with small table for two and additional reclining wooden chairs for enjoying some beverages on summer evenings
The immediate area: 1/2-1mi walk/bike/drive to downtown, plus some of our favorites, like Western Cider, Imagine Nation Brewing, Draught Works Brewing and Kamoon are within walking distance. Hunter Bay coffee is also within 1/2mi. There is a conventional coffee shop a block away called Lighthouse Coffee, which is acceptable to most (though I'd argue that you can make far superior coffee drinks at the house!). There is a liquor store within a few blocks. The nearest large grocery store is called Yokes, just a few blocks away. The Good Food Store is a 5 min drive away for natural, organic and local groceries. Two convenience stores within a couple of blocks in either direction. The Still Room restaurant, Cruz Tacos, Garden City Taqueria, Aikos cart--all within a few blocks. Lowell School and amazing Westside Park with toddler play area (usable any day), incredible kids playground (usable during non-school hours), water play features in the summer and large area for dogs to play is an easy six block walk away.
Feel free to message me for any specific recommendations! (Best cocktails, breweries, vegan-friendly restaurants, best dinner spots, kid-friendly dining, kid activities, favorite venues for live music, nearby hikes etc.)
Guest access
Whole house, yard. (Entrance to currently occupied studio next door is separate.) Laundry in basement is shared with studio renter next door.
Other things to note
Please note that the space has abundant sleeping and lounging space, but there is just one bathroom (and as I note in the description, it is not a large bathroom!).
Pets must be cleared with me ahead of time. No smoking (anything) on-site--we want the space to remain low-toxin and minimize unwanted odors or potential for fire accidents. Serious fees will be incurred for violations.
Please lock all doors before leaving (including back/kitchen door) for any period of time. Both front and back doors are original to the house and need to be pulled tightly to close and latch fully.
Parking is street parking and the left side of the driveway. The right side of the driveway is reserved for the studio renter next door.
*Please note* Laundry is in the unfinished basement, which the tenant next door also uses via the back door entrance. (Back door has entry to basement via one door and entry to the vacation rental space via a different door.) The tenant will not overlap in any other spaces, but also may be using the laundry area during your stay.
