Melissahof is a 35-acre organic working farm that ethically raises heritage poultry and heirloom garlic. The farm borders 600+ acres of state land.
The name "hof" is German for farm, and it reflects the rural spirit. Melissa established Melissahof Hatchery after rescuing a mail order of baby chicks that had been in transit for over 80 hours (chicks can only survive 72 hours without food or water)! The heritage poultry flocks are raised on pasture in rotation with cattle and the heirloom garlic beds to regenerate the health of the soil, water, plants and all animals.
We had such a great experience staying here! Melissa was incredibly kind and accommodatingâespecially when we had a last-minute schedule change. She made the whole process easy and stress-free. Communication was excellent from the start, and she provided all the info we needed for a smooth check-in.The property itself was amazingâbeautifully maintained, comfortable, and in a location that truly felt special. The view was something we wonât forget anytime soon. Overall, this was one of the more memorable stays weâve had, and weâd absolutely come back again!
This was my first stay at this peaceful farm property with friendly but lively dogs. On the first night, I was woken around 1 a.m. by barking and flashing security lights as the dogs ran across the front. Light sleepers might find this disruptive. The master bedroom was clean, but the mattress was firmer than Iâm used to. Thereâs no air conditioning, so cooling relies on ceiling fans and open windows â manageable during my visit but could be tougher in summer.Cell service is very limited unless you use Union Wireless or Verizon. I had no AT&T or T-Mobile signal and relied on the hostâs Wi-Fi, which was fast.Entertainment was minimal with just a few books and no TV or games, so bring your own entertainment if you plan to stay in.A note for drivers: one dog followed me into the garage while my brother helped me back in the vehicle. The dogs are sweet but be cautious when moving cars.At 179/night, I hoped for more comfort and amenities, but the tranquil setting and chance to unplug after exploring Lander made for a relaxing stay.
