We arrived and our taxi driver managed to find a neighbor who gave us a key. The neighbor spoke no English so could not tell us anything about the property. He left as soon as he gave us the key so we were on our own without any check-in process.
Once inside we walked through the rooms. The bedroom air conditioners looked very dangerous (there were no covers on them, just the coils). I noticed there was no television. We tried to connect to the internet as directed by the owner, but to no avail (there were more passcodes and networks required than the information we were given). I called the owner to talk to her about no television and the difficulty with the internet. Her first response was that she did not include a television on her listing page. In fact, it is mentioned twice, once under amenities and once when she discusses where she does and does not have air conditioning. I sent her a screen shot of the listing which clearly states that there is satellite or cable TV. She then said that she is four hours away, but she has a brother who lived nearby who could bring us a TV that would have four channels and they would be in Spanish. Regarding the internet, she said that the property administrator would be there at 9:00 the next morning to help us with that. My husband walked around the property and I checked out the rest of the house. When I turned on the shower, sandy water came out. My husband came inside with a picture of a signed tacked on the front door (the person with the key had let us inside through a side door). We sent the picture to our son and a friend who are both fluent in Spanish. They told us the sign meant the house was in foreclosure. That fact, coupled with with no internet, no television, sandy water and a general air of disrepair about the place, convinced us to leave immediately. We are working with our bank to have the payment dismissed.
The house was beautiful. The pool was clear and always clean. There was a gardener that was very nice and always around. We felt very safe. Nice neighborhood but have to walk out to the road 5 to 10 minutes to get the bus or you have to rely on taxis to get around. Just wish there was more than 1 key to the door. It would be a great place for a family to stay.
Location as described, property very clean. The swimming pool area was maintained clean, the water was a bit cloudy (which it was understandable on my part it had rained the night I got there). Alfredo and his wife were very helpful. Paty the owner is an outstanding person communicated with
me and respond to my questions very promptly. Thank you Paty your house is beautiful.
