RESTAURANT TIPS
Here’s a comprehensive list of local eateries and stops. Ask for more specifics. Reserve NOW if you want something fancy.
1. Harrison’s: hard to get in but known as reliable because of the owner and chef; fish, chops, local ingredients and cozy like we like it. Reserve weeks or months early or try for the bar. 2. Idletyme: is easier to get in on a whim and makes ya feel kinda high end: large rooms, and has nice martini bar area — outdoor fire fun — food’s above average from steaks to burgers, prob the best fish and chips in town. 3. Sushi Yoshi: or the legendary 3A. Matterhorn for sushi. Yoshi does the asian theme and offers the American/Chinese usuals too. Both are great Apres ski joints but the Horn is the first stop after skiing for juice and apps. (Horn is also one of the last late night places along with 3B. Alfie’s Wild Ride— a favorite day and night massive and interesting club with games, tacos and run by Chris Oleks, local school principal turned cocktail slinger to the rising stars— young and old). 4. The Whip @ The Green Mountain Inn — steaks and comfort food, kinda comforting as one of the first spots ever here in the humble hamlet of Stowe, pictures on the wall are nice and staff is old school as is the steak au Poivre and chopped salad 5. Grants Bar at the Stowe Inn: great bar, most beautiful bar in Stowe with a good story behind it. Steaks and chops basic menu but fancy feeling. Just a nice place to have drinks or a soda and likely music on the weekend during peak seasons 6. Plate: is a higher end cosmo and cauliflower with steak or fish type fancy hip place. Jen Martin runs the show and the mixologist is “the kid” Bryan who likes you to film him while whipping up the coffee martinis etc. I’m told he’s also easy on the eyes ; ) 7. Next door to that is: Lower Bar for drinks and small singer/local musician affairs — closest bar to your COZY Hotel base. 8. Across Main street from there is Butlers Pantry: for breakfast. Best in town, try the Benedict or jalapeño cakes. Get in Yelp EARLY to get on list. 9. Maxies: in Waterbury is my favorite breakfast and less apoi, less tourists if you do the 15 min drive. No one cares who you are. 10. Go up to the Lodge at mountain if you want to spend big bucks for over-priced pomp and same ingredients you’d get at: 9. Salute’, is my favorite right now and the only Italian option (Trattoria La Festa, if open, is a good option) is a festive bar scene— a favorite of mine — with the bar and tables waited on by some of the coolest folks in town. Get there early for bar space, like five pm on peak seasons 10. American Flatbread is a fine place to go if you are out of options and like a cavern-like place to eat in with two nice bars and wood fired pies. 11. Rimrocks is the sports bars with all the fried favs and other options paired with your favorite team sports on; a mix of tourists looking to shoo the kids away with games and get down and dirty with the local drinkers and desperate souls. 12. The Backyard (smash burgers ) used to be that option but now its a place to take your bicycle and sip on a berry juice or craft beer and grab some pub food. 13. The Bench (great bar to sit at for food and they have wood fired pizza). Consistent and less pricey with no pretention. 14. Doc Ponds is a cool bar and great bar tenders with spinning vinyl music. They make basic food in a fancy kinda way (but don’t fall for the peanuts app).15. Piecasso is the pizza place and crazy with kids having fun of all ages. They do a great job, great owners and great success story. You’ll see why. It’s hip. Cool staff. 16. Hands down the only last standing, good food, real dive bar is Burt’s Irish pub . Great brunch and lunch items if you don’t mind a true dive braving the last old bad ass stowe locals (and occasional star). The Columbian owner cooks like a queen and serves the best SUNDAY brunch in town — but this isn’t a dinner spot (although as of 2025 moving to a new spot and that may change —and don’t play the Grateful Dead to keep the peace, play The Band instead). 17. ZENBARN has the music almost too Waterbury. Very cool music venue. 18. And of course my pals at the Alchemist for your famous craft brew needs. Say hi to Jen and John.
That’s it for now. Again, happy to add more thoughts on town ideas; just communicate.
Here’s some tips and instructions for your convenient and cozy studio needs
1. WiFi Network: fidiumheath
Password: Deantv1313
2. Address: 1152 Pucker Street in Stowe (rural route 100) has a black and white sign in front of the building that says "Stowe Media." The driveway is a sharp right after a guard rail — before that sign if you’re going north on route 100 after passing through Stowe’s Main Street (and the church). A gray house with a detached garage at the end of driveway.
PARKING @ The Convenient & Cozy Studio:
Go down the driveway and you will see your deck immediately on your left with BBQ on it. Most folks pull up to that deck and then back up into the spot next to the front corner of the house. That’s your specific spot. Its just got little lip from the hill getting out that you’ll see and get use to: It’s the easiest way to access and get out. However, If you have a large SUV, or simply don’t like the spot— text me . Now, if it’s dumpling snow we need to be in touch as things develop and I may have to put you in a garage spot so the snow plowing people can get around to plow us out!
Enter double glass door. Adjust your heat in kitchen to taste.
Key will be inside or in the door upon your arrival should you want to lock door. There’s not much crime here but your call.
