Thank you Kathleen for your review of our house. To clarify things a bit, I understand your confusion about this house because as the description states, it is very unique. I wasn’t sure how to describe the lower level because since it opens into the backyard, it is not really like the traditional meaning of “basement”. After some reading, I learned that this kind of construction is termed “integrated hillside construction” where the house is built into the hillside making it more efficient for heating. Looking at the pictures of the back side of the house, it is evident that it is a two story which dictates that there are stairs somewhere. When we gutted and redesigned the interior, there was no way to incorporate a door at the top of the stairs leading to the kitchen below. The use of a child gate is the responsibility of the attending family. The original placement of a kitchen was on the lower “garden” level so that’s why we put the new kitchen there. As to the shower, the shower head can be moved a little to the left or closing the shower curtain would stop over spray onto the wooden floor. While cleaning the house, I checked the cushions on the wicker set on the deck. They are not dirty as you stated - maybe a little color faded - but not dirty. I did see one little stain on the settee cushion so I flipped it to the other side. I will definitely look at my property description to add a few sentences to clear up any discrepancies.
